What's up cousins! Just to speak further as it regards to some of the products I have been testing recently. As you guys know, while this is fun and my passion, this is also my job lol I get paid (sometimes 🙃) to test and give my honest opinion on new and popular products that are on the market. (How cool is that?!) About a year and a half ago I decided I wanted to stop limiting myself, opportunities, and experiences by only using certain ingredients. I wanted to be able to tell you guys "Sure!" when you asked me to review a product because you cared about my opinion (how cool is THAT?!) instead of always having to say "Sorry, I can't" because a product contained silicones or other ingredients. None of which will kill me lol... maybe just give me a bad hair day. 🤷🏾♀️ So THAT IS WHY although I personally subscribe to The Curly Girl Method... you have recently seen (and will continue to see) me trying products that if I weren't "Finally Amber", I probably wouldn't have ever picked up. These tips are based on PERSONAL OPINION and the things that worked for me and my curls even before I grew this big ole family of beautiful cousins ❤️ So it's kind of one of those things where "Do as I say, not as I do" 😅😂 With that being said, always feel free to let me know products you want me to try in the comments! LOVE YALL! ✨
Finally Amber, hey cuzn. Girl im a all my life natural too. Transitioned with heat damage in 2k9. Then i started back getn my hair straightened in 2k13. Stopped and dint straighten again til recently 5yrs later. Omg my hair was tailbone length. I freakn got severe heat damage and had to cut 8-10" off! 😢😭. Im so pissed. Im on meds that i think weakened my strands and now i have very little curl. I said all this to say, THANK YOU FOR THIS! I really need to train my curls back to popn. This was so helpful.
I totally agree that you can train your curls. I have type 4c hair, but for the past two years I have doing the same long routine for my wash n gos (which included a clay masque every week). I had no idea I was training my curls. But this summer I experimented and cut out all but two of the steps and realized that my hair is trained to curl now. It took two years, but now I can simply co-wash and go straight to the gel! I never thought I would be able to do this.
Dannielle Elliott If you do not mind sharing, could you explain how you manage weekly clay masque without drying your hair and without it taking forever? (Example questions: kind of clay you used, consistency of clay wash, how you applied the clay wash, how long as in how many hours) basically I’m asking if you can provide details or even direct me to where you have shared details elsewhere.
No problem. I would make my clay in batches (because I am too lazy to make it each week). I used Rhassoul Clay and I made my clay to be moisturizing. My recipe is: 2 Cups Clay 4 teaspoons Avocado Oil 4 teaspoons Honey 4 teaspoons Coconut Oil (or olive oil) Half Aloe Vera Juice and Half water Mix until you get the consistency you want it. I made at least 4 batches and stored them in 16 ounce jars in the fridge. I would use a hand mixer to whip the ingredients until it was creamy like pudding. You can make it thicker and just add water while applying to hair. I also added an essential oil fragrance such as lavender or lemon. One jar would last me two wash days. Take the jar out of the fridge the night before wash day. I added the clay to my hair after washing and deep conditioning because the clay would really help clump my curls before adding gel. I have no curl definition w/o product! Apply to soaking wet hair and use a lot of water to help clump curls while raking through hair. Sometimes I would wrap hair with saran wrap and sleep in clay then rinse in morning. Right after the clay masque, I add leave in and gel. It did take forever though. I did my wash routine in the evening and ended with the clay masque then went to bed, then finished in the morning to allow my hair to dry all day (which never really happened because I still ended up sitting under the drying by midnight!) I experimented with not using clay this month and realized my hair doesn't need it every week anymore. May still use it occasionally though. I hope this helps.
When you brought up the permanent middle part I DIED. Every time I do my two French braids I don't even have to part it I just pull the middle and it separates perfectly 😂😂😂
I appreciate your request for people to be respectful-if “cousins” cannot offer opinions and advice in a constructive not negative manner they should not reply at all. Love your videos and hair❤️
The tip about using/sticking to one product is gold!! For a while in my journey I had to bounce from different brands/products bc they werent working or did work but stopped etc. Now I have one set routine using the same product combo and my twistouts finally pop and last! 🙌🏾 it took a lil over two years but its worth it.
I love that you talk about this. When I was a "straight natural" my hair was to my tailbone! But my texture was compromised. The one thing I learned during that natural hair process was my hair was successful because I was a master one ONE style, and when I did that style I literally didnt do anything (rather than moisturize and seal) until I washed again (like every three weeks). As a natural now I am trying to do the same thing but the heatless way. I have been using curl formers or roller sets to stretch my hair...I wear that style as long as I can, and then I mini twists for two to four weeks. I have seen a major change in not only the overall health of my hair but also how my curls clump. The less you do to your hair and the more stretched your hair (when you have a really tight curl pattern, I am 3c-4b) the better. Oh I also use the same mix of products until they are completely finished, I find that a month or two of the same thing over and over is better to my hair than switching constantly. Thank you for starting the convo! :)
I was JUST wondering why I couldn’t find a Natural Gal whose hair looked like mine when wet. It’s literally a fluff fro. 😩 maybe errrbody else’s hair is already trained.
prettywitty77. Maybe looking at some of a person's older videos might help? but I remember I saw one video which said the reason we keep thinking we can't have styles like what we see is becasue we aren't accepting that our own hair will do what it does and that's ok! Once I finally believed that I've stopped using extensions and just have my own hair out all the time - looking just the way my hair wants to look becasue there really isn't anyone else with my hair. I can get tips and suggestions Re products and processes from the videos but my hair will never look like theirs :) Hope this helps!
prettywitty77 Keep in mind though that a person's natural curl pattern and texture does play a role. My hair is similar to Amber's and my curls have been trained/ stretched for years but while it was frizzy and less defined before training, it was never a fluff fro when wet. So what you start with does make a difference. Bottom line, anyone can train/stretch their hair no matter the curl type or texture but all heads will not look and feel the same. Everyone's hair will not be as defined as Amber's no matter the amount of training so learn to love your hair and how it behaves no matter what.
Hey there prettywitty77 try Chime Edwards! I would say she experiences the same type of clumping (or lack there of) as you do. She always says that the "out styles" work better because of this and shes been natural for years. So aint no type of training can fix what your hair just naturally wants to do. Training has helped my curls, as I was convinced when I big chopped that it would just be a soft fro my whole life, but then I stuck to coiling and shingling for a while, and then my hair started to follow the pattern. Likewise, coils and clumps lead to shrinkage, so I definitely had to come to terms with "shorter" hair :). Also, I'm really loving your natural hair. Watched you when you were texlaxed and now still watch you when your natural !
Not everybody's routine works for everyone else, but I'll share mine here regardless. It keeps my hair defined, moisturised and easy to work with as well as saving me from tangles and pretty much has eliminated single strand knots for me: -As I Am coconut cowash to wash with -Follow up with Aphogee texture treatment(weekly) -Moisturise with Shea Moisture curl & style milk -Curls Blueberry Bliss gel -Shea Moisture curling gel souffle to finish I apply all of my products via the raking method, blow dry and use the banding method when done. I refresh a few days later with the same gels, this routine typically lasts 1-2 weeks. Band every night. I have 4b hair, my routine has made handling my hair SO much easier.
Hey Amber, I feel you on these points. I haven’t straightened my hair in over 6 years. I rarely use silicones (they don’t work for me and give me frizz) and I shingle my products throughout my hair from roots to tips, adding more to my ends. Doing these things over time has made a tremendous difference in my wash n gos and I have so much definition. I’m high porosity but I agree with you completely. Can’t knock what works.
i always loved your channel because you tell us the truth and actually want to help us !! not like the other youtubers that promote a product that doesn’t work but they still get paid for promoting it 🤦🏻♀️
Girl training is the truth!!! I been a cousin all year and last night when i washed and conditioned I was amazed at the definition and clumpage my heart smiled because my hair was looking like yours!! I was like oh snap hair twin now!!! Sooo happy thanks for all your help my curls thriving now cousin luv ya!! 💕
Thanks cousin! Starting back on the CG method. I was on the CG method after I big chopped but then I fell off. Ppl are like don't use silicones but I see all these TH-camrs with long hair using it but you can't compare. My hair is my hair and I'm taking the time to listen to it. Even though it kinda hurts my heart that I have to throw away hello hydration, Aussie DC and OGX, it's worth it. Everything ain't for everybody
I "trained" my curls with VO5 passionfruit smoothie rinse out shampoo and conditioner and elasta qp mango butter moisturizer. For the longest time I thought my hair was 4c. . .now that it is trained and properly moisturized I've realized my a 4b with 4A in the nape
Glad to know your hair use to be frizzy 😂 cause sis, I’m thinking I must be the only 3c/4a hair that’s frizzy & doesn’t clump that well without excessive gel 😔 but that’s because I been neglecting it for years with wigs and not using the right products. Lately it’s been getting better with a new regimen & I started incorporating deep conditioning, so I know one day I’ll get to the point where it’s trained
Thank you for this video. I used wetline and my Eden bodyworks hair butter. Never thought to blow-dry my roots or ponytail the curls. I woke up with flawless hair.
I applaud you for always having a thorough explanation always and making it known to your followers you do what works for you...I am a og follower and contemplating starting a TH-cam channel... any advice ?!
you looked so gorge today!!! i like the result of shingling (minus the first day shrinkage) but i just can't take the time so i always just work section by section in handfuls. great video && thanks for sharing!
THANKS FOR THE TIPS MISS AMB! Definitely have been using some of these tips from before, but I guess it's because Iv'e watched your videos and took notes over the years :). I've recently started to shingle more, and I definitely see a distinct difference with clumping. That and not roughing up your hair in the shower, are what work best for me. I dont remember if you mentioned washing in sections in the 'shower' part of the video, but, I must add that this helps to alleviate seperation of the strands by not disturbing the clumps.
You are so very helpful with your hair tips. Thank you! I have been natural for yrs but have not been taking care of my hair. Now that I have started , it's like a second job! lol!! Your tips are incredibly helpful. Wash and go unfortunately does not work for my hair. At least not yet. I have tried it a few times and umm.. nope.. lol! Twist outs so far seem to be what works.. barely but what the hey.. I have a very long journey ahead. Time, patience and commitment are my three keys to some semblance of success (currently:-) I look forward to your videos! You have been a part of my inspiration! ** Kisses** Again, thank you Amber! You rock!
Ppl claim their hair gets used to products and i roll my eyes. Like your hair is dead... it cant get used to anything other than physical manipulation. Ppl get build up. What are your thoughts Amber?
But your scalp is alive and gets used to product. For example, many straight haired people experience this: They wash their hair daily, but they always get a greasy scalp. That's because their scalp knows that the oils are missing. So it produces a ton. Also, YOU get used to products. You get used to how your hair feels with a certain product- so, if it feels different, that's weird to you.
You know it's interesting the statement you made about sticking with one product. I recently decided last week I was going to do that because of my scalp. I was doing a little bit of switching which I normally don't do. I also saw a recent video with Alopecia free with Jass and she mentioned the same thing; but it just makes sense. How will you know what works if you are not consistent with something. So I'm going back to old habits cuz it's been working this far. Oh and don't worry about the hellraiser crew they will tire themselves out; always having fake outrage takes energy.😉
I have seen your videos for years but just started watching and subscribed. I been missing out 😊very informative! I'm trying silicone and sulfate free and I have a bunch of knots and dryness with wash and gos. After 5 years of being natural. I'm just deciding to try stretched looks and so I'll see about training my hair. It grows up and out and I would love it to fall to my shoulders more! Loved this video!
What it do Cousin 🤗 thank you for ALWAYS keeping it REAL!!! Cousin I hear you when it comes to pressing hair way way back in the day and mom using one of her pantyhose on your head to keep your ponytails in place for School and Church. I’ve been natural for 4 years and on the third Year I began to know my hair and understood everything is not for me 🙇🏽♀️😂😂. Your videos helped me soooo much! Peace n Love🧞♀️
Amber Worthy I just used my actual apartment as my background and not really “new” lighting... I just tested out a different setting and it ended up being perfect! 🙏🏾😩❤️
Had to rewatch again lol washday, but I have a tapered cut again haha after going from tapered cut to brush cut for brain surgery and starting back over with hair growth again. And I'm like finding products that really work for me now again after trying so much haha but I want to just stick to one product line like u said i feel like it's much better that way. So once again thanks for this
NOTIFICATION SQUAADDD !!! 😝😝😝😝 but I’m definitely planning on trying the banding method very soon not necessarily to “train” my curls but I’ve never done it and I want to see if there are any major benefits to keeping it that way.
Guys, also be careful about not doing this accidentally. I've tucked the hair in front of my ears behind them so much, that they stay in that shape, that curve and straight down. No matter what I do, how I style them, how often I keep myself from tucking my hair back. I hate it.
Love your video and I’m very familiar with training hair. My grandma raised us up in the good ole dirty dirty and she always kept our hair train in braids or platted up 😉 when we took down our braided hair the waves stayed in our hair for days . We didn’t know bout wash and go products then. Just water 💦 and hair grease curls stayed popped till wash day again because it would eventually be put in a low ponytail such as yours, then wash and Do whole script again 🙄😂😏oh queen I’m so ova all these products dos and don’t I jus can not. I just want to be great@ doing me with my own unique natural hair . Sorry but not sorry for long comment just want you know I paid attention watched answered all your video🤔😏💕🎥👍🏾
Have you tried Alikay Naturals deep conditioner? The Honey and sage. Just wondering but not sure if I may have missed a video you may have done. I love it!!
Selena Thomas thank you. And lol It will come. As you can see... I have a lot of content to get out and lot of things outside of TH-cam in my real life to take care of so give me some time. I try to balance my videos because everyone doesn’t watch vlogs.
I totally agree with you, and my granny use to tell me my hair needed to be trained because my hair didnt last when i would get it pressed, but now i wear my hair in a pony tail 98% of the time and i hate how my wash n go's look its like my hair never lay how i want it to, a few years ago i got my hair pressed and the girl said my hair naturally wants to go up instead of lay flat because i wear a ponytail everyday
Heyy cousin, I keep my hair in plait braids usually between 10-18 because my hair is so thick. I keep my hair in a protective style (I wear wigs 99.9% of the time im out and at home I dont wear it. I oil my scalp and keep moisture in my hair from time to time. Before I started working I would wash my hair weekly and DC, now that I'm working I do my hair whenever i can. My question to you is that a good method to keep my hair "trained" and for it to grow out my curls? or Wear out my curls and use products to help train my curls.
Thanks for the video. Cousins at what month can we start stretching the hair after a big chop. I've just started my 3rd month natural after the big chop and how do you stretch short hair, I don'tlike the finger coiled - thank cousins.
Pamela Walker you can start stretching your hair whenever you want as long as you have enough to stretch lol I have videos on my channel from where my hair was shorter. ❤️
I’ve been trying to get my hair to be consistent but my hair has layers that i’ve been trying to grow out since i was transitioning😭. I honestly feel like my is going to be short forever and there is not much things I can do with it to make it look decent😩

Hey cuz from the south too Arkansas
Shingling the curls and maintaining 24/7 moisture/oil balance are key to training juicy curls that learn how to form themselves over time.
I totally agree that you can train your curls. I have type 4c hair, but for the past two years I have doing the same long routine for my wash n gos (which included a clay masque every week). Elisha Pittman try the bentotite clay and apple cider vinegar with some castor oil appply to hair for about 30 mins def helped me train my curls
No problem. I would make my clay in batches (because I am too lazy to make it each week). I used Rhassoul Clay and I made my clay to be moisturizing.
My recipe is:
2 Cups Clay
4 teaspoons Avocado Oil
4 teaspoons Honey
4 teaspoons Coconut Oil (or olive oil)
Half Aloe Vera Juice and Half water
Mix until you get the consistency you want it. I made at least 4 batches and stored them in 16 ounce jars in the fridge. I would use a hand mixer to whip the ingredients until it was creamy like pudding. You can make it thicker and just add water while applying to hair. Mesa Westbrook I use this too and it’s awesome!

Me too 😂😂😂
Girl I think all naturals with curls have the permanent middle part 😂😂😂😂
I thought it was just me 💀

tt_island same!! I’m so glad I’ve been able to weed out the negative nancies lol
The queen made a demand 🤷🏽♀️
Not everybody's routine works for everyone else, but I'll share mine here regardless. It keeps my hair defined, moisturised and easy to work with as well as saving me from tangles and pretty much has eliminated single strand knots for me:
-As I Am coconut cowash to wash with
-Follow up with Aphogee texture treatment(weekly)
-Moisturise with Shea Moisture curl & style milk
-Curls Blueberry Bliss gel
-Shea Moisture curling gel souffle to finish
I apply all of my products via the raking method, blow dry and use the banding method when done.
I refresh a few days later with the same gels, this routine typically lasts 1-2 weeks. Band every night.
I have 4b hair, my routine has made handling my hair SO much easier.

Yes girl you can train your hair ...I use to do this when my hair was short and relaxed I got it lay a certain way
I appreciate your honesty and your tips. You and CurlyProverbz have kept me in line on this journey.

You’re makeup looksssss sooooooo gooood 😭♥️♥️♥️😩😍😍😍 like you’re so prettty 😍
Cousin I totally agree! I definitely trained my hair to get a pawping wash n go! Lord knows they were not a thing before

Thanks Amber for the tips i just been natural for 9 mounts i am still trying to figure it out, bye the way you have beautiful curls, thanks
Dortothy Sills same but I've been natural for 10
This was so helpful! I’ve been wanting to start “training” my curls for a more tamed/defined look! Thanks cousinnnnn ❤️

Ppl claim their hair gets used to products and i roll my eyes. Like your hair is dead... it cant get used to anything other than physical manipulation. Ppl get build up. What are your thoughts Amber?
Well i agree 100%
But your scalp is alive and gets used to product. For example, many straight haired people experience this: They wash their hair daily, but they always get a greasy scalp. That's because their scalp knows that the oils are missing. So it produces a ton.
Also, YOU get used to products. You get used to how your hair feels with a certain product- so, if it feels different, that's weird to you.
So how do you think wavers get waves?
@@mocamz8862 the hair getting used to physical manipulation…
Amber your skin and this makeup look!!! 😍😍
SyreetaD424 thank you! I’ve been trying to do a lil somethin! Lol
I loved this video! You gave it to us simple and straight to the point!!!
Man!! Your hair looks good!! I’m so excited too because it looks just like my hair texture. OowOow!
Sooooo...I'm not able to pay attention bc your lip color is 🔥🔥🔥👄
Love you girl! I love coming back to watch your new videos! ❤️ great tips
Hey cousin! Well I must say you have them curls trained! 💙
RIP Prince
I went through the same process of training my curls. Many people ask me if I have on a wig or if my hair is texturized.
Skin looks good❤️
I’m love this look cousin 🤩
Such an inspiration girl! You always speak the truth and your curls are always poppin!

New subscriber here! The moment you said “hey cousins!” I knew for a fact you were from the south like us😂😂 southern hospitality is easy to spot
Your hair is beautiful! I just subscribed.
Chandra Criswell YOOOOO! YOU SAID THE “PANTYHOSE”!!! 🤦🏾♀️🤣😂🤣😂 True story!!! 🤣🤣👍🏾👏🏾
Is this a new background... New lighting ... ooooooooo!
Amber Worthy I just used my actual apartment as my background and not really “new” lighting... I just tested out a different setting and it ended up being perfect! 🙏🏾😩❤️
Finally Amber it is the epitome of PERFECTION!!!!!
So once again thanks for this
how did the surgery go?
@@AngelaChristineK it was successful thank you!! 🤍
@@Sharebear3093 Wow, thank God, I know it was like 2years ago but happy you came through!!!
@@AngelaChristineK I appreciate that a lot 🤍
Love the snack pop up
Looking good girl!!!
This is interesting thank you cousinnn
You are so right about using one product. I’ve tried lots of things, but nothing comes close to my hair butter...formulated for my own hair.
NOTIFICATION SQUAADDD !!! 😝😝😝😝 but I’m definitely planning on trying the banding method very soon not necessarily to “train” my curls but I’ve never done it and I want to see if there are any major benefits to keeping it that way.
NatalyaNaturally_ I band my hair every night to help keep my curls
Makeup on FLEEK!!!!! :D
I love this channel. 💜
Guys, also be careful about not doing this accidentally.
I've tucked the hair in front of my ears behind them so much, that they stay in that shape, that curve and straight down. No matter what I do, how I style them, how often I keep myself from tucking my hair back. I hate it.
Hi Amber. I know you said you wash with a clarifying shampoo weekly now. Can you recommend one for low prosity hair that is not too stripping??
Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for the video.
Sup cousin new subbie right here!
Cousin you look pretty! 😍
Great video!
Cuz! 😂Great routine....
Loved this video! Thanks cousin! I was super interested in curl training so this was perfect!
Great easy REAL tips. Thanks. 😀
Have you tried Alikay Naturals deep conditioner? The Honey and sage. Just wondering but not sure if I may have missed a video you may have done. I love it!!
I love you Amber! ❤️
You look great Amber. You skim and hair is looking good. Where id our PART II to Beauty Con???!!!🤔
Selena Thomas thank you. And lol It will come. As you can see... I have a lot of content to get out and lot of things outside of TH-cam in my real life to take care of so give me some time. I try to balance my videos because everyone doesn’t watch vlogs.
Notification squad! 😎
This look 😍
I totally agree with you, and my granny use to tell me my hair needed to be trained because my hair didnt last when i would get it pressed, but now i wear my hair in a pony tail 98% of the time and i hate how my wash n go's look its like my hair never lay how i want it to, a few years ago i got my hair pressed and the girl said my hair naturally wants to go up instead of lay flat because i wear a ponytail everyday
I love ur hair so much😍
Hey Amber I’ve been looking for a really good hooded air dryer and wanted to know what dryer you use?

Can you do a review on a growth oil cheveux noirs .
*NOTIFICATION SQUAADD* ❤😍
That's good advice!!
Subscribed just because you said IM FROM THE SOUTH AND WE ALL HAVE A COUSIN😂
The prince clip tho😭😭😭😭
Your hair is beautiful loving the curls.
I’ve been trying to get my hair to be consistent but my hair has layers that i’ve been trying to grow out since i was transitioning😭. I honestly feel like my is going to be short forever and there is not much things I can do with it to make it look decent😩
I enjoyed your video.
People usually train without knowing. I have a natural side part but I do twin braids so much a tug is all I need to see a perfect middle part.
Your eyebrows are on point
