There were Conns, there were Wurlitzers, there were Lowerys, but nothing could be the iconic Hammond line of organs.
Their attached Leslie pre-amps were used by numerous jazz, blues, rock, and pop artists.
Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, and Lonnie Smith added really insane techniques in their jazz organ licks on the Hammond, such as squabbling, Shearing (or block chording), the hurricane glissando, and mid-level and high-level organ points over or under shorter-duration notes and chords.

Actually the truth is that the original Hammond Organ Company in Chicago did go out of business in 1985 after the Marmom Group of Companies abandoned the manufacture. Hammond Organ Company was in trouble during the 1970s as the Marmon Group of Company bought out Hammond Corperation some where in the mid 1970s, after Hammond acquire the Leslie company. In 1985, an Australian bought the company just as Hammond was going into the digital sampling phase and at one time was going to have Wersi manufacture their organs, then Hammond breached the contract with Wersi. Shortly Suzuki bought the rights to Hammond and Leslie and soon dropped out of the home organ market in the late 1990s.

It's a shame that none of the people that created the various models are in the hall of fame. There were teams of dedicated engineers that put their souls into creating these magnificent instruments. For example, Bill Rieger worked at Hammond for about 35 years. He was Director of Engineering and Research and led the team that created the B3. Yet no mention of him or the brilliant people he worked with - anywhere.

Too bad, not one mention of Ethel Smith who put the Hammond on the map
in 1944 in a movie called "Bathing Beauty". She was excellent. You should
run one her excerpts. Gary Schneider

I'm disappointed not to see a mention of Lenny Dee (Leonard DeStoppelaire) who recorded dozens of pop albums from the 50's into the 70's and who could really make the Hammond sing.
This from Wikipedia: Leonard George DeStoppelaire (January 5, 1923 - February 12, 2006), better known as Lenny Dee, was a virtuoso organist who played many styles of music. His record albums were among the most popular of easy listening and space age pop organists of the 1950s through the early 1970s. His signature hit, Plantation Boogie, charted as a Top 20 hit in 1955. He also had a gold record with 1970's Spinning Wheel.
