Easy Mushroom Growing: How to Spawn CVG

- In this video, we take the grain spawn we made and use it to spawn bulk substrate. In this video we see how to make CVG, one of the most popular substrates for mushroom growing.
Ingredients
Coco Coir
Vermiculite
Gypsum (dry wall)
Combine and weigh CVG and place in a large container, to this add 3.5x water by weight.
Cover your container with its lid or in my case foil and place in the pressure cooker. Sterilise for 2 hours at 15psi/105kpa.
(Most people will pasteurise and this is absolutely fine. I however suffered major contamination on my last few tubs and never want to repeat the experience. Once bitten, twice shy!)
Let cool before opening.
Clean a tub with alcohol and wipe clean. Be sure to leave minimal alcohol. Add a base layer of CVG and then introduce your spawn. Break up any clumps and add more CVG until there's about at 1:1 ratio CVG to Spawn. Mix extremely well and then add a further 1cm CVG layer to the top. Mist this layer with water for 30 seconds and close.
Good Luck and Happy Growing!

omg you are a life saver bro, ive been trying to find small batch substrate tutorials but i couldn't find anything, and here you come along!
Happy to help man! I hope you get a keen flush :D let me know how it goes!
I recently started using a cheese grater to tear up my cakes, just to get more of a even sized flakes, works really well!
Yeah? I'm gonna try it! Great solution, mate.
What size?! Like just a regular sized one?
Yeh, regular size grater, i use brown rice flour and verm with some gypsum, the grater gives good sizing.
@@AntMan-hh1mi thanks for the info!
Those mushies are looking so gooood
Following your journey while learning from you! Mush love
Amazing! I hope your grows are bountiful!!
I love them fried in butter
@@KellyS1968 add a little thyme to the butter and a touch of garlic. Delicious.
@@BigMush9000 yum I’ll try that for sure!
Looks good, I shall pressure cook substrate rather than pasteurise, had contam too much, thank you
Yeah, contam is heartbreaking right? Even though coir is non nutritious, stuff can still get into it if it isn't stored correctly. I believe mice or rats got into my coir.....culture and spawn were clean...soon as I mixed it with that coir all sorts of horrors made themselves known. Good luck with your next grow; I'm very keen to hear if you're successful. Keep me posted.
@@BigMush9000so knowledgeable in this I love it

Cheers mate! I got some killer jmf going also. Can't wait to fruit that out.....the jars are colonising!
