    The pressure cooker. You can't get far in the mushroom world without it. My Faberware 6qt pressure cooker has seen over 200 cooking @ 2hrs a piece.

      @attorneycarissa there are ways to avoid using a pressure cooker to sterilise things. Tindalisation foremost among them. However it's a laborious and time intensive process requiring about a week to do correctly. If it's within your means I urge you to get a pressure cooker. Far faster and far more effective in my experience! Nothing kills the enthusiasm for mushroom growing faster than constant contamination!

      If you don't have the equipment, might I direct your attention to the Uncle Ben Tek You can use the pouches of microwavable rice that's already precooked and sterilized. Use that to make seed spawn then add to substrate once colonized 👍

    Why do they grow outside so easliy with all type of potential contamination know to man but inside its so easily destroyed by contamination??

    • @BigMush9000
      @BigMush9000  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @vindowmaker5819 a great question. Most don't grow outside, they succumb to all sorts of competing organisms and its only the very few that survive. The vast, vast majority of spores will never germinate!

      @BigMush9000 I added spored to my garden where there are sweet potato plants (vine coverage), and I've had two epusides of growth. I ate the mushrooms raw. Not massive growth like your bags, but more than I expected! (I had used cow manure in that garden bed.)

      @@attorneycarissa amazing! I'm jealous you have a garden. I'm in densely populated Europe in a massive apartment complex and would love to experiment with growing out side. Congratulations on your success as well. You'll have mushrooms for years from your garden bed! Amazing 👏

    Although contamination is terrifying and troublesome, this is where human discovered penicillin, a beneficial antibiotic.

    • @BigMush9000
      @BigMush9000  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You're correct! Alexander Fleming first noticed the antibiotic properties of penicillin in the 1930s if I recall correctly. However such molds area death sentence for mushroom cultivators

    i screwed my first pf tek attempt by heating up the incubation box bottom to achieve a good temp range. i didnt know where and how exactly to place the termohigrometer sensor so i got contamination due to the high temps at the jars bottom. rookie mistake that i'll never be making again. next time i'll make sure they're not tuching the bottom of the box and ill place the sensor at their bottom's height

    • @BigMush9000
      @BigMush9000  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Damn, sorry to hear that! I've made the same mistake more than once myself. A little rack that lifts up the jars will to prevent them touching heating elements will prevent the cakes drying out. A temp around 19/20c will help with certain contaminants. Also, and this is critical, there are a lot of contaminants that thrive in anaerobic environments. If your incubator seals tight, it's a good idea to open the lid a little bit or make a hole in it and then stuff it with cotton wool/the stuff you find in toy bears etc to make a filter. This will keep the insulation benefits of your incubator whilst also allowing for some fresh air exchange :D sorry you had a set back! Next grow you'll smash it!

      @@BigMush9000 thanks for the tips! i'm using a simple cardboard box as incubator lol i'm leaving it now with zero heating hoping it will grow stronger although slower. it's crazy how the mycelium can generate heat. inside the box it's usually 3ºC above room temp, which matches the recommended temps above. cheers!

      @BigMush9000  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @felipetomaz1087 ah beautiful mate. That excess heat you described is called "thermeogenesis" I believe and is a major consideration as the grow expands. It's crazy....they pump out heat like you wouldn't believe

  • @TerpyTen

    It doesn't help that mycelium can grow in maybe different ways.... Especially that puffy structure that likes to look like that cotton mold.

    • @BigMush9000
      @BigMush9000  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @ReviewCart69 yeah, mate. That's right in the sweet spot! I'd keep the temp closer to 70f if you can help it. I wouldn't go higher than 75f.
