    A very long time ago I came into a first edition copy of the core rule book. I loved it so much I never contemplated later editions. There are plenty of other games where the setting is meant to be dark and gritty, but Warhammer Fantasy easily does the best job of it.

      You have real Warhammer and not wannabies made to squeeze money from people. WFRP need only few minor home rules fixes and it's perfect.
      The so called 4th edition is a woke nonsense. I won't even mention bland professions pictures, which made me wanna vomit.

      @@hadeseye2297 oh, brother. There are so many more woke things than this. This isn't even worth getting upset about.

    I'm learning this system not only because I love Warhammer, but I have a number of settings I want to play and this particular system works better for them than d&d

    Or group is playing this on Foundry VTT. The digital version is a great value. One thing I'm loving is the endeavor system. The fact that there is so much going on outside of adventuring really helps give your character depth and makes it more interesting than "I gotta to get better armor and a magic weapon". My dwarf just went from a river guide to a runesmith initiate and is stocking up on rope, pack animals, tools, writing equipment, navigation tools, kegs of beer, etc because he's going to have to go searching for lost runic knowledge. In other systems it'd just be weapons and armor and maybe a few other trinkets. Anyway, loving it so far

    I only got to play 1E a little but I have always loved this system. it had such a unique take on rpg mechanics and set-up, it was always a classic. 4E looks good too, and I've been wanting to see a deeper breakdown.

    Ok- I played WFRP a long time ago. I think it was 1st edition and I still have it. What are the main differences? Is it worth transitioning to 4e?

    • @princealiaps3751
      @princealiaps3751 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not really no. Stick with 1st or step up to 2nd ed. Some god awful design features that feel untested. The crunch is massive and as a long term WHFRP player i was very disappointed. I think C7 just wanted to piss on the lampost to say 'this is our WHFRP so we'll put these rules in'. Plus it's far too woke for the Old World; pushes racial acceptance in a world of xenophobia, hatred and intolerance - the things that give the setting it's dark shit.

    • @discountfuturist
      @discountfuturist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I like the idea of a 4th edition, but it has taken a turn towards woke. Some of the game concepts are pretty good, others less so. The art is just a little too D&D, so you lose a bit of that bleak, near-hopeless "grim and perilous". Still, what they've done is pretty commendable packing it all into a book like the original.

    • @TRASHMONGR
      @TRASHMONGR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@princealiaps3751 I just don't understand what you mean by "woke" in this context. As well, what racial acceptance? The dwarves still hate the elves, the humans still think halflings are no good thieves, and the elves have their own ethnostate lmao. Warhammer is still just as fucked up as ever. You can play your individual characters, and run the world entirely how you please, and the rulebook says just that.

    • @princealiaps3751
      @princealiaps3751 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TRASHMONGR Thanks for your reply. What i mean is oriental townfolk, a black noble depicted & quite a lot of Strong independent woma to use the phrase. . Before any screams of racism or misogyny come flying i,m really not. I don't want modern issues in my RPG's. I,m capable of discerning what's really important. i,m just saying it breaks verisimilitude to have this kind of tolerance in the old world. Warhammer worlds of WHFRP & 40K are dark, brutal & intolerant. They stand out against the homogenous bland depictions in D&D for example. What about a Cathay or Nipon sourcebook showing white people as Maharajas or Daimyos ? Wouldn't happen would it. This being said i understand they are a business and want to appeal to a wide range of customers given today's identity charged world

    • @TRASHMONGR
      @TRASHMONGR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@princealiaps3751 I think having the dichotomy of race/sex have less of a role in these games inherently takes the "Modern issue" out of it if that's one main complaint. If the stories don't revolve around the fact that "this is a strong female and that's different" or that a character is black, then, it doesn't necessarily effect play, and it's not handling the modern issue at all.. I agree with you that Warhammer should be brutal, intolerant, and dark, but let's not get it twisted. The intolerance mainly stems from the interactions between xenos and humans, or Dwarves and Orks, not because one ork is green and one Ork is purple. It's intolerant and reprehensible all the same, but without any of the modern lens of race, rather a fantasy or scifi lens. I tend to view fantasy in a vacuum, because if there wasn't any context to the color of our skin, (and with these characters and stories there isn't) it wouldn't make a difference. So yes, the old world is still filled with intolerance, but not in the way you and I know it.

    I was/am a huge fan of WFRP 2E when it was published by Black Industries. I'm not quite sold on 4E. Some changes like increasing skills by 1% a time instead of 5% seem too granular for instance. Also, I would have liked to see more source books by now instead of adventures. Where's a good 4E Chaos sourcebook for instance? Or a good Empire sourcebook? Not to mention sourcebooks for Kislev, Bretonnia or even Estalia and Tiles?
    Still sitting on the fence.

    I've been searching for 20 minutes for a simple list of items I'd need to play -- dice, sheets, tokens, anything. It's a big secret "TO PLAY, YOU WILL NEED...." no one wants to tell me.

    • @kellerglee
      @kellerglee 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s said in the video and fairly standard RPG requirements, but you need either the starter set or core rulebook, 2d10 (or percentile dice), and character sheets which you can either print, make yourself, fill up digitally, or just use the pre-made characters from the starter set. (If you go with the starter set, it also includes the dice you need.)
      That’s the essential list.
      You probably also want a pen/pencil and a notebook for note keeping. Everything else is just extra, depending on how you and your party prefers to play.
      If you’re planning on playing alone, you will need some form of solo oracle system - I recommend the mythic GM emulator. It also uses d10s so you won’t even need more dice.

    I really dont like what you did with the classes. In particular the Ranger class, youve put Scout and Hunter class under the peasant class rather than Ranger! No Woodsman class. Then put Entertainer, Fllaggelant and pedlar as Rangers!! What were you thinking?? The combat is overly complicated as well. Youve ruined a decent system.
