I honestly think La Grange is the greatest guitar solo ever. It's so easily memorable and identifiable you can hum along to it and know exactly what notes are coming next even if you haven't heard it in a long time. And it's not a simple solo either
That's the magic of Billy's style, so economical with notes, and not working hard, just IN THE BOX! I love how the band always arranges songs to be different live and catch you at the ending.
The more polyphonic instruments you add like extra guitars and keys, the more the frequency range can get crowded and instruments have to compete with each other. A power trio can have more clarity as each instrument has their own space.
Howard by far has the best sound engineering for all musical acts he had over the years. It doesn't matter if it acoustic set or full band, sound is always incredible. Way better than Grammys
ZZ Top was the first band I REALLY got into as a teen. Incredible guitar tone...Billy is just an incredibly innovative player from a tone and technique perspective. Interesting how Frank seems to play drums with his eyes closed. Just feeling the groove.
They've done this for so long they probably play these songs in their sleep. I've seen live twice within the last five years and they are still great onstage. Gotta love these guys.

I had access to a drum kit for a couple years, via a roomate, and While I play stringed instruments, this was the only song I could riff to on drums as my roomate also played other instruments. Maybe not the “fills,” but the basic part is... basic :-)
I met Frank in Las Vegas. You would never know he is the drummer for the Top. Quiet, short, and very self-effacing. Such a cool dude. He stopped and spoke to me like we were friends from way back.

Wonderful album. Not too long ago, I bought my first record player and auido set up which is pretty decent.. that are far better and more expensive set ups, but as for the format and experience of it: golden. I have a growing record collection, and I've yet to come across a decent Tres Hombres or Rio Grande Mud album, although I have several other of ZZ Top albums that are from the original mastering. It's physical attraction and (in my opinion) better sound, it's just an entirely different experience than anything on a digital format.

I found a really good copy at an antique store in Glendale, KY a few years ago, excellent $20 purchase if i do say so
