Hey! So just wondering. Since you said that the full speaker array is included on the standard range tesla, but isn't activated, is that one of the software upgrades you can do post purchase? Also, the full self driving option isn't a requirement for autopilot on highways?
Great review. It sounded like if you don't like the update, you can't go to previous version but can you stop or delay the update (like always 30 days after it is released). Also can you go back to the original software (when you purchased the car) if an update made your $40K car unbearable?
Terrific video! Very informative with minimal hyperbole... well done! I took delivery (at home) of my SR+ on March 26, just two weeks after I placed my order at the nearby Tesla store. My first EV, and I must confess this car is a blast to drive. I found the buying experience to be the least painful one I’ve ever had. I did check my car over carefully and found some paint issues (I opted for the red). I used the app to schedule a service appointment, uploaded some photos, and, in the end, the service tech buffed out the six areas in about 45 minutes. I agree - for the price, there should be a thorough PDI on these cars. I was told my paint finish issue was a common one that happens during assembly - all the more reason Tesla should fix it before delivery. But it’s all water under the bridge. I’m waiting for my electrician to install my Wall Charger, and using my 110 volt option for now, and Super Chargers on my road trips. It works. I look forward to more of your videos!
Thanks for a very informative video. The quality issues you showed still bug the heck out of me and have kept me from purchasing a Tesla. What is going on? Does anybody inspect these cars prior to delivery? Spending $40,000 or more should promise delivery with top quality fit and finish. I don't think it's too much to ask since other manufacturers manage to produce quality at almost half the price in some cases.
I totally agree. It’s one of the big reasons I won’t buy a Tesla. I like the idea of an EV but currently Teslas are going for $ 48,000 to 62000 and more for the other models. This is the same price range of Mercedes, Audis, BMWs and Lexus and I can assure you that those cars don’t have the same panel gap and other poorly fitted items. Is anyone doing quality control in the Tesla factories? I would find it acceptable if these cars were selling for
Just got mine end of March as well and I can say mine was also dirty when I picked it up. Not only were there oil stains on the white seats which needed to be cleaned but they parked my car under a giant tree during peak pollen season. Come on team! There were 50 other open spaces near by.
Is it possible to get the base model 3 and pay for the update of the speakers through the app? similar to the heated seats? If so can you tell me the cost?
I just got my Model 3 Performance 2 weeks ago in NC. (And have already put over 1000 miles on it.) I have yet to get the latest software update, they may be holding back the new UI for new cars due to the feedback about the new UI. (And I finally got the latest software update. Guess it just takes a bit.)
What do you think? I just ordered mine last night so I'm excited.... I was debating between the 3 Performance and the Y Performance and wondering if I made the right choice.
Did you consider the sport wheels? Do you feel the standard tire/wheel size is sufficient for its size and weight or would you have gone with the sport wheels? Thanks
Hey Ryan - thanks for the great videos! I picked up my M3 SR+ about 2 weeks ago. I noticed last night the aero wheels are creaking a little. I know this was a knows “issue”. Have you experienced this?
So would you recommend the model 3(with full self driving, and long range)over something like a Toyota Corolla I’m only really worried about it’s cost and it’s charging time so would you think it’s worth it?
Honestly the charging time isn’t something you should worry about, I leave my model 3 SR+ 2021 over night and it can go from 5 to 80 no problem. The price of electricity vs gas is so much cheaper as well, to charge my Tesla fully would probably be around 4-5$ and it has a range of around 424 km. For a full tank of gas, you can easily spend up to 100$. This may be a little biased but I think the model 3 is a better choice than the Corolla.
@@hiimhopeee1245 but my main concern is how much it costs(the model 3 I want is about 60000$ with tax because of full self driving and Long range) Compared to the Toyota Corolla that’s like 24000$ and the main reason I wanted a tesla is because of self driving but you can get that with open pilot(1000$ and about the same as auto pilot) so is it worth it too still get a Tesla model 3?
@@RavvaOf_Light honestly I think the Tesla is the better option, as I mentioned, the price of gas if a lot more expensive than the price of electricity. Another factor is getting auto repairs, you don’t need to get oil repairs for the model 3.
Great overview. We have a 2019 version, and distance driving presents no issue...this is a cracking car. The wipers can go a bit crazy on auto sometimes (eg. through trees in bright sun), but we’ve got used to controlling them via voice command. Will be interested to see how you get on with those big road trips in the US.
Good review. However, the “auto-pilot” really isn’t that much at all, at least not now. I have a 2020 Model 3 with the then $8000 upgrade for future city streets full autonomous driving, whatever that means according to your review, where you did not get it and seem to be doing everything I can do. But, I have keep my hands on the wheel At All Times, and the nav autopilot still needs a lot of work. And yes i’ve experienced sudden breaking for no reason, I think it just freaked out over its surroundings and didn’t know what to do. Freeways here in central Texas are pretty crowded and fast, unlike So. Cal. where there’s 5+ lanes and everyone is pretty well evenly spaced out. I trust things will get better later this year when Tesla says full autonomous driving will be rolled out. I don’t know if you have to enter each trip into the nav system to take advantage of this, probably so.
Did you take delivery yet? I ordered a LR 3 about a month ago and no delivery in sight. Website told me I’d take delivery July 20th- August 8th but now it says 7-11 weeks.
Just took delivery of M3LR and noticed that I had to format that flash drive in the glove box. There’s a button for that in the security screen. Dothan and sentry mode works. Cameras are very sensitive. Lights flashed when my dog walked past car :).
I think you will notice that phantom braking happens whenever you go below bridges. I think those shadows of the overhanging structures have something to do for the random braking. Maybe the cameras are picking them up. What do you think?
Im actually curious to know how the quality of the paint turned out this time for you. I recall on your Model Y you had to do some corrections to the paint before being able to apply your PPF and I wonder how the paintwork on your newer Model 3 compares to your Model Y.
I am surprised that Ryan hasn't mentioned that you can assign the key to a profile so, everything adjusts automatically depending who is opening the door... And this applies to the phone key as well. I have never had to touch the profile of who is driving on the screen. I own 2 model 3 STD Range + and it is very convenient. If you are using your phone as a key, just make sure to have the car that you are going to drive selected on the phone's app.
I bought my Model 3 LR on site at the end of March. I agree with most of your review. I live in middle TN and we need more super chargers in my area. I looked over the car before I bought it and didn't find anything wrong, unfortunately a few days after I got it home I started getting a really bad screen flicker/cutting off and on of the screen which seems to last for a few minutes after I start a drive, put the car in reverse or check sentry mode video. I text my rep from the service center that sold me my car and she told me to try a reset to see if it fixed it and unfortunately it didn't so I will have to set up a service appointment to get this resolved. Other than that one problem it is the best car I have ever owned. I let my girlfriends dad drive it and now has changed his mind about electric cars and is now thinking about buying a Model Y. Who knows maybe i will get my first referral lol. Keep up the great videos Ryan. Oh also I found the lighting in the trunk is very dem so i put in a removable motion sensor light that I had left over from a three pack I had bought on Amazon.
Lease or buy? I'm leaning toward leasing a Tesla since the technology moves so quickly and it's easier to just give it back and get a new one vs selling and committing to another loan.
I would have loved the auto liftgate, blackout of chrome, and hatchback. Otherwise my june 2018 lrm3 is perfect. Still love it! I recently. Upgraded to FSD for another $5k since I already had enhanced autopilot ...my car Jun2018 ...did not make the cut for the new hardware needed. No complaints.... it is a choice to purchase ...so how can you complain? Looking forward to FSD to get better! Thx for your video. We have both the 3 and Y...and I definitely prefer the 3...the car really moves with you.
How do the new wireless chargers compare to the ones in your Model Y’s OG center console? I know the older one had issues charging phones with cases on, but could be easily replaced with a 3rd party charger. Doesn’t look so easy to swap out the new one, which is why I’m concerned.
The night and day difference in ride is the tires. 3 has the Michelin’s. Michelin does not currently have a 19 inch tire in this tire. I had the same experince with our Santa FE. The stock were worn out and I switched to the michelin. “Like night and day”
My 2020 M3 SR Plus is EPA rated at 250mi, but it never charged beyond 242 mi of range at 100% when it was new. After 1 year of ownership and ~14,000 miles it only charges to about 222 mi at 100%. Have used a supercharger only once. I normally charge with my Tesla charger in my own garage and charge to 100% around once a month. When I complained to Tesla they said this was normal and my battery was actually performing better than average. Anyone else finding your Tesla doesn't even charge anywhere close to the stated EPA range?
The premium auto is the only thing I think I'd miss. I wish you could just pay to activate the extra speakers (even if the sub isn't there) like you can the rear heated seats.
We just got our 2021 model y 7 seater lrawd - I would say the ride quality is more cushier in the MY compared to our existing 2019 lrawd model 3. We got FSD on the model 3 (was 6K then) but opted not to get it in the MY. While the FSD is much more convenient on the highway with automatic lane change and taking exits, $10K is a lot to pay.... may reconsider and upgrade if they ever release city driving.
I’ve always thought chrome looks tacky on anything but classic cars and trucks, but that’s just me. I get the luxury aspect some ppl get from it, but still just not my cup of tea.
I absolutely hate how there is no lighting on the door handles at night. Literally a guessing game for a few seconds and the handles being flush doesn’t help. But other than that it’s an absolute delight. I picked up my LR 2021 on dec 6th
I drive 500 miles a year. My concern with a gas car is the gas going bad. How well does the Tesla hold up a charge if not driven? Is there a daily idle power draw to be concerned about? My current truck I have installed a charge port for a NOCO battery maintainer which solved my battery problems. I have to park outdoors but right in front of my garage. These are the issues that keep me from getting a Tesla. I would like the opinion of those who own one and might know the answers to these questions.
Nice! I look forward to the Model 3 SR+ content in the coming weeks/months! I do want to mention something about the Tesla EPA range though. It’s actually not the range in a perfect scenario, it’s the range in an excessively optimistic scenario while running the car in a way that damages the battery, as Edmunds recently demonstrated. When Edmunds couldn’t come close to meeting EPA range on Tesla, Tesla said you need to charge to 100% and drive not when the car tells you to stop, but continue driving even at zero percent until the car physically stops moving, even with in-car warnings saying you’re actively damaging the battery. Edmonds repeated the test, in the process hurting the battery of their own Tesla that they bought, and still couldn’t meet EPA range. Note that others “VW, Porsche, Audi” were very close to EPA range, with the exception of Porsche which far exceeded EPA range.
Hey Ryan Shaw I'm curious to know why you bought this now with the pending EV credit possibly coming and also the fact you waited for the Y when the 3 was out the whole time.
Thank you so much for taking your time to make this video !! I’m new to the electric car. Curious what is the cost to charge when doing a road trip & what’s the cost for the updates ? Is it a early cost ? Sorry if these questions seem odd - going tomorrow for a test drive .
Good choice!! I actually bought the same exact one! I love the metallic silver. I was tempted to get the long range, but opted in getting the standard range plus since I don’t do a lot of driving and I love it regardless. Only charge once every few days.
So, at time 12:15 you said that it chooses the target speed for traffic-aware cruise control by comparison with the cars around you. Is that right? I thought it based the speed upon your location, and then you can adjust that 5MPH either direction of that.
Did you see Tesla updated the interior on the Tesla model 3 just slightly? You should do a video on it. I noticed on the white trim that the door inserts are no longer white. Only a small white trim is there. On the black a there is a small wood grain trim on there. I have not seen any videos on this change yet so you should do one.
Also bought a 2021 at the end of March and enjoying it. In my opinion the FSD should be associated with your account and not the car. If I want to upgrade to a new car, I should be able to carry it over. And if someone buys my used car, they can decide to add it or not. It is a lot of money to spend as a upgrade. It would also give Tesla additional income in the used market. They aren't thinking about the used market yet. Downside is if I buy more than one Tesla all my Tesla will have it. Lost revenue, but brand loyalty. Most car companies want brand loyalty. Think about it Elon.
Very comprehensive overview. Better job than I can do giving a test drive of mine. One thing I like to say about the $10,000 FSD price is that you need to think of it as buying TSLA stock as a long term hold. If you don’t think they will get to FSD before you’ll be selling the car, then don’t get it. But don’t base the decision solely on the current production features.
Weird question but... how many miles were on the car when you drove it away? (Yes I realize it’s a brand new car but like did it already have 6-7 miles on it or anything?)
What a coincidence, I started following your channel about a year ago and was certain that I was going to get a Model Y sometime this year. But I live in Europe and we now have to wait until Giga Berlin is completed before the first MY deliveries start in Europe, and no one knows how long you have to wait for an MY if you order one today.
I would find it acceptable if these cars were selling for
I'm thinking of buying one, how much do you pay for insurance? And how much does your electric bill go up when u charge it?
Yess!! Good questions car insurance 👌
How's the ride quality of the new 3 vs your Y with the coilovers? Would you still recommend the coilovers?
I just got my Model 3 Performance 2 weeks ago in NC. (And have already put over 1000 miles on it.) I have yet to get the latest software update, they may be holding back the new UI for new cars due to the feedback about the new UI. (And I finally got the latest software update. Guess it just takes a bit.)
What do you think? I just ordered mine last night so I'm excited.... I was debating between the 3 Performance and the Y Performance and wondering if I made the right choice.
What’s your build date? That would explain the dirt. That and the seals. My rear door jams are always filthy. I even have after market seals.
Do you recommend getting Paint Protection Film installed? (At least on the high impact areas?)
Always
@@hiimhopeee1245 but my main concern is how much it costs(the model 3 I want is about 60000$ with tax because of full self driving and Long range)
Compared to the Toyota Corolla that’s like 24000$ and the main reason I wanted a tesla is because of self driving but you can get that with open pilot(1000$ and about the same as auto pilot) so is it worth it too still get a Tesla model 3?
@@RavvaOf_Light honestly I think the Tesla is the better option, as I mentioned, the price of gas if a lot more expensive than the price of electricity. Another factor is getting auto repairs, you don’t need to get oil repairs for the model 3.
@@RavvaOf_Light as long as you have the car for a while, it will be a better investment as it’s cheaper to use and maintain
Corolla not even in the same league as Model 3. Watching Scotty Kilmer huh ?
Great video. I am thinking of buying a Model 3. Is the standard good enough for long trips or is it worth it upgrading to the long range for 10K?
Just ordered a Model 3 SR+ with the help of your videos and your referral link! So excited! Thanks!
Thanks for this review! So thorough, I’m going to buy one now
I think you will notice that phantom braking happens whenever you go below bridges. I think those shadows of the overhanging structures have something to do for the random braking. Maybe the cameras are picking them up. What do you think?
Good review. You can use voice control for windshield wipers! It works well.
So the Model 3 has a smoother/luxury suspension compared to your Model Y? Even after the aftermarket upgrade you got?
@Ryan Shaw yeah sure... scam maybe?
Why can’t we get black rims for the model 3 as a option . Just like how the model y has black rims to go with the black chrome delete
@@scottbreseke716 not talking about those Im talking about something like the model Y black wheels .
@@scottbreseke716 those aren’t black.
Ryan many thanks for your superb videos. Quick question, which one do you prefer your Model Y or 3?
How has that paint held up? Trying to figure out what color to get. Thanks
Insurance costs for this car? what is an average or typical amount?
which is better? AWD or RWD?? what is the biggest difference/ pros and cons? besides that RWD is cheaper
“Like night and day”
Michelin Primacy that is!
Interesting. To be, it feels like it’s much more than the tires, but I will have to update the model y to Michelin tires to test that out!
Did you get PPF or ceramic coating?
Good question.
Keep up all the great work Ryan. I greatly appreciate it. I'm getting ready to order my first Tesla soon.
I wish they made it an upgrade option for SR+ to upgrade the audio. I have 21 SR+ and want premium audio!!!
The premium auto is the only thing I think I'd miss. I wish you could just pay to activate the extra speakers (even if the sub isn't there) like you can the rear heated seats.
Hi! Congratulations for your great purchase. Do you know what type of batteries was delivered with your M3?
We just got our 2021 model y 7 seater lrawd - I would say the ride quality is more cushier in the MY compared to our existing 2019 lrawd model 3. We got FSD on the model 3 (was 6K then) but opted not to get it in the MY. While the FSD is much more convenient on the highway with automatic lane change and taking exits, $10K is a lot to pay.... may reconsider and upgrade if they ever release city driving.
Why everyone is anti-chrome, can someone explain? I bought Model 3 2018 LR with all the upgrades , it's red with chrome and looks georgous
I’ve always thought chrome looks tacky on anything but classic cars and trucks, but that’s just me. I get the luxury aspect some ppl get from it, but still just not my cup of tea.
Beautiful review! And omg, the EAT profile... genius! It's almost my dream car, only I want the LR in the same paint/interior.
What happened to your model y?
Has the trunk water spilling into the trunk space issue been resolved in the revision you have?
Great video. By any chance can u leave the link for the third party front license plate bracket?
Experience with after warranty cost repairs and dealing with dings & dents using PDR and costs? Thanks.....
Great review👍. But why trade in your Model Y? Isn’t Y a much more practical car for you and feels pretty much the same as a model 3?
Now that you have both center consoles, which do you prefer?
New one for sure
Really wish it had a typical speedometer infront of the steering wheel. Not a big fan of everything being on the touch screen
Best color to get?
Thank you for an awesome & detailed review!! Have you heard anything about bird’s eye view coming to a future software update?
Does the model 3 come with heated steering wheel?
Also bought a 2021 at the end of March and enjoying it. In my opinion the FSD should be associated with your account and not the car. If I want to upgrade to a new car, I should be able to carry it over. And if someone buys my used car, they can decide to add it or not. It is a lot of money to spend as a upgrade. It would also give Tesla additional income in the used market. They aren't thinking about the used market yet. Downside is if I buy more than one Tesla all my Tesla will have it. Lost revenue, but brand loyalty. Most car companies want brand loyalty. Think about it Elon.
the FSD isn't a software update alone. It requires you to go to the shop for about 1hr while they install a computer upgrade.
So my colleague and I ordered two Model 3:s in early March and got them delivered on the 30th of March. Mine is Midnight Silver, just like yours. Btw we used your referral code when we ordered! ;-)
Would you recommend buying a used Tesla or always buy new?
♥️ my 2019 SR+ I drive every day in Las Vegas.
