I was really hoping someone would make a video about this. It’s such a technically gifted team, very different to previous English teams that focused more on physicality
well, previous teams 'focused' on physicality because they weren't as good technically because coaches didn't focus on technique and intelligence etc then

For me Angel Gomes and Curtis Jones stand out as being extremely skillful and just very high quality players.the number of times they turn and dribble/pass out of danger when receiving the ball practically at their own 18 yard box, facing towards their own goal is incredible.

As a Newcastle supporter, seeing Anthony Gordon do well after an admittedly rough first season on Tyneside is great. I fully believe he will come through for us and be a valuable part of the squad.

It's also about confidence. But I suspect that nuance like that is beyond your capacity for thought.
I agree was very disappointed with him and his attitude since joining the toon but he's really won me over this tournament and regarding the other person's comment I think this just shows that he's clearly got something about him playing against his peers and if he can step up and continue developing we are going to have a decent versatile player on our hands. My only worry is that his attitude seems to stink if he's not the "main" man but maybe with a lot more games next season he will get more minutes and that will appease him somewhat. That left-hand side is there for the taking if he can be consistent as much as i love ASM i think Eddie Howe wants a more consistent player and granted ASM had a few injuries last season but the gaffa clearly preferred to use Isaak, Jolinten, and Willock, etc so the opportunity is there for him i feel.

Chelsea has a youth team that has dominated all youth competition for years , yet they result to signing stars from other teams . It's a big fish in a small pond mentality ,with these England lads , they are already playing EPL football but they aren't good enough to get caps for the main team . Saka is far better than Gordon . That's why one plays in the world cup and the other plays U - whatever Mickey mouse nonsense.

Mans so high up thr pitch isak isn't even on the line he's talented quick af, he admitted he wasn't fit due to Everton training so been dipping in and out since he joined but every time he's on the pitch he's always created chanced and always running so dunno what ya mean like

What's frustrating, is that everyone knew for so long how bad our footballing culture was. I started watching football from about 1991 (dark period of English football followed) and we were losing to Norway and getting completely outclassed by the Dutch. The Dutch were playing a highly technical game whearas we had players picked on how well they could run and tackle and their heading ability, everyone knew it was shit!
At youth level, as soon as you started football at under 6's you'd play eleven aside on a full size and get screamed at if you started trying to pass it in defence.
Seems like we're finally getting there thanks to the last Englishman to win the top English division.
Also, it was frustrating to find out that the Ajax/Barca philosophy was created by a group of Englishmen headed by a guy called Vic Buckingham, could have been so different. Instead we ended up with awful percentages football where technically gifted players such as Glenn Hoddle were considered as 'luxury players'. 🤦♂️
Carlton Palmer got more caps than Le Tissier. God did I not like that.
Except Venables’ team played good football in ‘96, even beating a very good Dutch side.

the FA's youth plan has done really well.
I wasn't aware of the whole DNA movement that started in 2010 which I can see is responsible for the success of the Spanish and the France during this period. Before watching this video, I had noticed (after watching a live U21 match a few months ago) just how fluid and composed they were. I can see its manifestation at the senior level as well. At times During the Brazil and Belgium game, England were so fluid that they looked like they were playing exhibition football and the commentator even said as much.

'Relationism' philosophy going around, pioneered by Fluminense in Brazil. Short and sharp attacking, pass and move, one-twos all over the place, no strict guardiola-esque positioning. It's beautiful football.

Yeah ngl, they were my pretournament favorites. Beat Germany 3-1 while the German team wasn’t yet totally depleted (Thiaw, Nmecha) as they were going into the tournament, then followed that up by whooping France 4-0. No normal team does that.

The reason why there good is because the FA have finally put a structure in place from grass roots onwards by introducing St George's Park, which has produced technically fantastic players and attracts minded coaches playing the right systems to bring the best out of these talented youngsters. But it should have been down when Trevor Brooking talked about the need for it back in the late 90s or early 00s. But the politician idiots at the FA thought they knew best.

Excellent video, especially in the light of yesterday's England win.
Apart from the development of the technical/coaching aspects; England seem to have become generally more savvy with their game management. Against Spain and Portugal they dug in and weren't afraid to use more cynical tactics to stop them getting into a rhythm. Minor fouls to prevent them from breaking out of defence, slowing the game down and generally winding them up. I feel like England have previously been naive to this aspect of the game. Its not pretty, but it did the job.

The England DNA is for everything position, I’ve at university studying football science and coaching at high performance centre, it tells you what the basic skills that a footballer needs to know and understand key elements of football to help them improve them as an athletes
I am 68 and l have online arguments with people my age who cannot accept that things have moved on and greatly improved. For the first time since 1970 l can watch England teams and not wince at their technical and tactical ineptitude. I always thought if they could ally the athleticism and willingness to run with greater sophistication they would be extremely formidable and so it has proved. Incidentally l don’t think you can underestimate other factors such as the improvement in pitches, the PL, the way children are now encouraged to play, the development of sports science, the football clubs have become beacons for social inclusiveness and so on. The game in England is in better health than it has been for over a century. If only the country was run the way football is now
You are spot my friend. I have watched England 1970 onwards, so just behind you. My school days were filled with England failing to qualify for 3 straight Tournaments 74,76 and 78. All the decades since You would see the ball bounce off our players feet as soon as they tried quick intricate passing. It irritates me how even today the former players who are pundits on TV don't except they were not as skilled as the whole new generations coming through. The best ones could be used if molded with the top skillful players from abroad to do well at club level. There were a few highs of course such as the great Liverpool teams of late 70's early 80's {I support Leeds by the way) But top talent was spread throughout all the league those days and there were very rarely absolutely brilliant teams back then.

Watching England play growing up was horrible and embarrassing. During the 70's Bo's and 90's we couldn't string three passes together and relied on set pieces and crosses to score goals.

C'mon a bit of perspective needed here.. They did well to get to the final and have shown a lot of promise. But Spain outclassed them for most of the match and were unlucky to lose.
Spain dominated possession but created very little in the way of clear cut chances, whereas England could've been 3 up by half time. The Spanish goalkeeper was their star player, and for good reason. I thought England's game management was brilliant. How often have we lauded the Italy of old for such defensive, counter-attacking astuteness and such clever shithousery?
It's how English teams have won international cups. Hold on to a goal lead

This result is what we have been waiting for... for many years from England's international set-up... competence at last! Cohesive, structural support which directly influences our collective international level potential and progress... you know, exactly what a football association was orginally created to do at international level!
Let's also not forget our boys winning the U17's WC in Brazil (2019)... this was the first top international trophy success in decades and this latest U21's 'clean sheet' Euros tournament victory was imperious... this has to be the most important international progress we have ever seen!
We'll find out next year in Germany if this outstanding collective cohesion, all-round quality & belief can finally make the transition to senior international level... and even possible WC success in the states in 26... why not? This was an historic victory for everyone currently involved in England's international football set-up, from the bottom to the top! This was special!

Being to arrogant to admit that ⚽ would be unversal ( eventho' 🏴is home of football ).
So the FA didn't want to join FIFA.
And the chance to play the 🦁🦁🦁 was gone.
While back then the team & the 🏴 Amateur team did crush their opponents most all the time.
Even some renowned countries still acknowledge in their history books that their biggest defeats came from the Amateur team.
What a chance 🏴 had in 1930, 1934, and 1938.
Those are potentially the cup-sweeping there.

I get what you are saying about the 2009 crew but, that was the final they were outclassed in. What was the standard of the rest of the competition compared to Germany. Was there any team on the German side of the path to the final that should have beaten England, given they were thumped by the Germans? If you were saying this about an England team that never made it out of the group phase then there may have been a reason to rethink. But one bad game in the FINAL is no reason to baulk.

I think Lee Carsley should get a lot of credit as well. Plus a lot of these players ply their trade in the premiership under managers such Pep. Klopp + Arteta which also furthers their understanding of the game

Over the last 15 years, The premier league (and its teams) has had more investment then any other league in the world, by a long. This equates to better coaches, trainers, support staff, facilities etc over this period. A strong England team is a direct cause of this investment

Let's not forget England in the past have either gotten to the finals or won u20 u17 championships and world cups the foden Sancho team got to the u17 euro final but lost to Spain then won the u17 World Cup later that year, then the u20s won the world cup in Japan I believe and other teams have done well, the issue is being able to integrate them successfully into the first team and transfer that success to the first team that's always been the issue with the current England setup over the last several years because they're good players

I disagree with your assessment of the 2010 senior game. The failure to award England a legitimate goal meant that in the second half they were still chasing the game. The longer the game went on, a defensive German team caught England on the break and because England never got that second goal the score line did not matter. Had it been 2-2 at the break, Germany would be coming out in the second half against a resurgent England team having dropped a 2 goal lead. The whole face of the game would have been different.

The history of tournaments and grassroots football in England, started in 92' in an under 9 tournament in Germany. The tournament was recorded and is on youtube and the BBC has shown the tournament twice on TV. The reason is, it shows how behind the English game was in England.

This team is the exact reason why the rule should be that players can be 21 years old max instead of average squad age. Some guys are 23 and proven prem players while some countries only have 20 year old academy players. Be who cares honestly
The rule is you have to be 21 or under prior to the qualifying competition starting, hence why you see 22 year olds playing.
