13:35 The whole video was an excellent watch, but the next few minutes after this, is actually so insightful. I can't help but think Kane is thinking exactly the same too :D
Great assessment of what I saw of the game personally, especially in the case of the “full backs” and Kane. Fantastic on the front foot for the two nations league games, but I would love to see the set up against a team that has plenty on the transition. Still looked vulnerable on the counter vs Finland, but I feel wider CB’s like Konsa and Colwil have the pace and positioning to deal with most wingers.
Couldn't agree more and I was really surprised that tv pundits didn't comment on the positional flexibility of the team. Heard several ex players say that the style of play was just like Southgate and it made me think that we were watching different games. Positive signs from Carsley so far and long may it continue.
Outstanding analysis as usual! Anyone who watched the pre-euros Iceland friendly knows that the performances in these two matches are a marked improvement against similar opposition Hopefully exciting things to come for the team!
I didnt watch the Ireland game, but I did manage to watch the Finland game. Although the game was still slow, I definitely found it more exciting than southgates games in the euros. It was nice to see Wingers taking on their man, the whole of euro final every time Saka got the ball In a 1v1 situation I was screaming for him to take on Cucarella but everytime he did he would cut in a pass it In field. Also crossing into the box! We managed to get players into the box, honestly I'm exciting and if Lee is going to encourage them to be brave and be more attacking I'm more than happg for him to keep the job. I know it was only Finland and Ireland but if that was Southgate in a euros game he would of played out a 0-0 draw. Trent was excellent, Gomes has a good game also, it was nice to have a CDM in there so we can push Rice more firward and do what he does with Arsenal. Rico Lewis was a great addition. We got a few more key players coming back so I'm excited to see what he does in his next set of games.
brilliant analysis as always 👏👏 for the first time since the 2020 euros (in 2021 🤔), i have hope and faith in this england side, and i actually enjoy watching the matches for a reason other than us winning (which, i think we all know didn't happen very much at the end of southgate's reign)

"Ah but we can't play free-flowing attacking football like Manchester City (for example) as we have no-one in the Rodri role." Enter Ángel Gomes. The other thing he shares with Rodri is he was almost unnoticed "6 - solid game". That and the Rico Lewis kaleidoscope where Rico Lewis appears simultaneously in all the empty spaces at the same time. Still the FA will probably end up giving the England job to an "established" manager rather than Lee Carsley but we can at least hope...
You pick the players for the team you come up against. No doubt Foden is a baller but playing him on the left is not the play. So if we need to stretch teams I would play Gordon over Foden for that left position.
Fair enough if he starts the tournament with his old favorites, but not dropping/subbing them when it clearly wasn't working was really bizarre, even for Southgate.
The players look infinitely happier and less stressed, that will only compound their abilities and focus at the pinnacle of football . It really is like jazz and the climax will come at the finals in 2026. This is just a warm up.
Going all the way back to the Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard debate, England have needed a manager who utilise positional fluidity to understand how to get the best out of our best players. We finally have that manager.
This video shows how far ahead of the game Carsley is tactically than Gareth Southgate was. Night and Day. Hopefully, England might just have a chance of winning some silverware.
I was waiting for days for this video to drop! Love your analysis and love your attitude. Just a note: you’ve got fans across the world now buddy. So it’s not English people rooting for and excited by a change in play, but also others (like me from India) supporting our former colonial overlords- The British raj :) I digress, keep up the great work and congratulations on raising 4K with the run.
Is the true competition in England's midfield actually Rice vs Bellingham? I think under Carsley, Rice is basically a box to box rather than a deep holding player. I could see the eventual midfield three ending up as one each of Wharton/Gomes, Grealish/Foden, and Rice/Bellingham.
Granted you did caveat the video with "it was only Ireland/Finland". And I do feel they were solid performances But I feel the caveat needed to be permanently plastered across the video just as a contant reminder. Because it was indeed only Ireland/Finland. We could do a video on two Southgate England games vs say Malta and Albania and we'd see lots of good things. The fact is, the opposition gave England lots of time and possesion and in doing so gave the team confidence to express themselves. Who remembers Foden running the show away vs Gribralter? The fact is, we dont know if this will hold up vs stronger teams until we play stronger teams.
The main thing I noticed was England moving around more, quickly creating open spaces for themselves, which they weren't doing under Southgate, hence there'd be no one to pass to, so they'd end up passing it back (yet again).
Southgate should be put in front of a tribunal for the way he dealt with Trent. He can easily be one of Englands most influential players, but Southgate didnt allow him to be his best self for years.
Or he can be a liability. He plays Hollywood balls that often do come off against Germany, France, Spain etc. It won't work and we loose the midfield battle. Also we haven't see him defend yet we know already he is not good at it. I hope to see a better right back replace him james.,lewis, livramento etc. Also midfield is still a problem. We still don't have a midfielder who can really but their stamp on games like Kroos, rodri. I am hoping carsley considers wharton. He is a rare midfield talent. Also rice was average against Finland. Don't rate him. Against the big teams he will slow our play down. At no 10 it has to be foden. Put him there and under carsley system he will score lots of goal Bellingham i dont know where he fits in the team. He will unbalance it. Also Hall has to be our left back. He can get forward and his defending is no worse than trent. He is young he will improve in that part. Also if kane is to play. Carsley will have to play players around who will get the best out of him. They way I see and I am sure you will agree. We have four players battling it out for one position foden, grealish, palmer and bellingham. Only one can play without upsetting the rhythm of the play.
as much as i like trent he did nearly cost us a goal against ireland southgate had good reasons not to play him but tbf anything would’ve been better than walker in the spain final
@@greengrass811 I do wonder how Foden, Bellingham and Palmer might rotate if allowed the same freedom. Gomes was so good I would like to see Bellingham in for Rice, Foden in for Grealish and Palmer in for Saka. Not that Saka did anything wrong just think Palmer could become great. What is great is that most positions in this system have very good backup for a tournament. I am curious why Eze did not seem to fit in so well when he came on.
@@esseffsee although white maybe a tool. At this moment in time he is the best right back. He doesn't give the ball away like trent. Is a much better defender and he is a wonderful crosser of the ball. A fit reece James is probably are only better right back than him. I am not an arsenal fan either but white is much better player than trent.
This makes me think of Liverpool’s future system, Bradley would fit at LB like Lewis in this video, exchanging positions with forward players and then there is Gravenberch plucking gaps. Szobo finding spaces on the flanks while Trent stays closer to the middle of the pitch
As an example, Lewis, Grelish and Gordon could all swap positions if one of three initiates a move into another zone. It’s essentially a diamond in build up with Angel at the base and Kane at the tip. Those 2 are constant alongside the CB’s for the most part.
I hope this enables them to not become overrun in the midfield against the better teams. It makes total sense to practice this strategy before the big games.
As long as it's still Trent-Arnold and not Ben White on the right side, he hasn't fixed much. Yes, he got rid of all the wasted riches that England has, as long as you don't play your best players on the best teams it's basically the same. Having players that can't play as starters is a bad sign.
I’m looking forward to the video on Angel Gomez. I was amazed to see that BBC Sports App viewers gave him average score of 4.36, the lowest of any England player on the pitch against Finland. Seems like more of them need to view your brilliant vids.
Carrington is far behind in training curriculum when it comes to developing players that build up on the back. He wouldn't be good as he is right now if he hadn't been coached well in Lille on patterns of play. The brief time that Yoro played during preseason also shows this.
@@Dionysos640 I mean consider the coaches present during his time in United (2016-2020). None of them are known for coaching patterns of building from the back i.e. Mourinho and Ole. Their systems don't rely on a regista like how Gomes is used in Lille.
@@SneakyB do you mean the youth coaching staff or the facilities? I know that the quality of the facilities is not up to par with some of the best right now, but I didnt get why it effect the quality of the player produced
@@23minutesof both tbh. By the time Ole came to the club, player fitness was below average in the league which reflects on the training program. This is why it's still struggling up to now with muscular injuries on players. Passes and forward movement that are supposed to be automatic for the likes of Yoro aren't for the players around him. That's the gulf of quality that needs to be overcome in the club.
With you On this Adam. A relief to see a bit of movement tbh. Really excited on the potential of an England squad, many of whom weren’t even near Wembley last night. Couple of years with Carsley at the reigns and we might just win something. How many changes to the squad do you think we’ll have seen by the time we get to the USA in 2026? And who?
We can win the world Cup 26. Spain and maybe France are our only real threat. Spain have yamal and a great midfield and attack but they aren't great defensively. France have the best defence in world football. Strong in midfield and attack but they are at a crossroads. The manager doesn't seem to know their best team. So are beatable. As for Germany. Some great attacking midfielders but up front they have havertz who isn't great. Also defensively you can get at them. An average Dutch team made them look ordinary. As for the rest Argentina, Portugal, Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands. They are no big. Deal. But carsley really needs to get the team blace right. Must find a left back. Trent can't play as a right back against the big team. Rice as well is too limited on the ball. As a holding play if he needs others to build the play he shouldn't be in the team. Bellingham not sure you can play him a side that looks to dominate the ball.
Saka's movement and positions was what stood out to me (along with Rice) in particular given it's been one of my criticisms of him, he never really moves from that right flank - I would have drawn a circle right where that dark red blob was from the euros heatmap. However, now that the player in that role is going to be moving around more it does lead to the question is Saka actually the best for that. My answer would be no - he looks less comfortable on the left or in the middle - Foden or Palmer would both be better, probably Palmer with Foden more competing for the Grealish role.
Not sure how much control you have of the graphics but there are two thing which would be good to see. An overlapping heatmap with different colours, and also it you highlight multiple players at once then choose different colours so you can easily track who has moved where. They all just look like lads in white shirts with a green circle.
I like how England is progressing under two different U-21 managers. Southgate worked a lot on chemistry and the players started getting along, he put good building blocks in place. Lee Carsley has taken that and then put in the tactics needed for the team. He put people into positions, but gave them the freedom to play as they're comfortable and England look better for it. Both managers are good for England and honestly I'm backing him to keep the job permanently
Team looked much more balanced than the Euros with players in their natural positions; what would you do if Bellingham, Foden and Palmer are all fit for the next game?
The fact that Pickford's long balls have stopped tells me everything I needed to know about Southgate

13:35 The whole video was an excellent watch, but the next few minutes after this, is actually so insightful. I can't help but think Kane is thinking exactly the same too :D
Another bloody brilliant video
I really enjoy your videos.
I have watched this one four times already. It’s a fascinating watch.
Gomes...what a great pick. Outstanding first start. The beating heart of a new era.👏👏👏🏴🏴🏴
Amazing what playing players to their strengths can do.
Great analysis. Thanks!
Well this aged like milk 😂 Can’t wait to see the tactical analysis of the masterclass against Greece.
Outstanding analysis as usual!
Anyone who watched the pre-euros Iceland friendly knows that the performances in these two matches are a marked improvement against similar opposition
Hopefully exciting things to come for the team!
Top video. Thanks!
Well said on Gomez- his contribution was signiicant!
I like having a left footed central defender on the left middle, looked cleaner with Colwill came on.
I congratulate you for your channel and I thank you for what you teach, I would like to recommend that you include in your videos Spanish subtitles because we are many Latinos who follow your channel and that would help us to be more sure of what we learn thanks to you, and God bless you and may you continue to succeed day by day.
"Ah but we can't play free-flowing attacking football like Manchester City (for example) as we have no-one in the Rodri role."
Enter Ángel Gomes.
The audition that was Anthony Gordon in these 2 games shown how wrong GS was to not play him in the Euros.
Same with TAA
What do you think will happen when Bellingham, foden and palmer come back? Who would he drop for Gordon?
As a united fan for years, I can't believe that Gomez fit the 6 role so well like this.
He's been great there ever since he made the switch from 10
Gomes Video ASAP, please! What a player!
I was waiting for days for this video to drop! Love your analysis and love your attitude.
Just a note: you’ve got fans across the world now buddy. So it’s not English people rooting for and excited by a change in play, but also others (like me from India) supporting our former colonial overlords- The British raj :)
I digress, keep up the great work and congratulations on raising 4K with the run.
Yeah. Rice is a classic box to box 8. Bellingham is best as a 10.
@@jonatanolsen37disagree. Bellingham is best as a box to box
Not sire what you have done but the lighting amd camera looked awesome in this ine well done guys a joy to watch.
Please do the north London derby
Trent is gona be a great future England Captain.
As a Liverpool fan, I believe he is already a legend, even if Real steals him away.
Granted you did caveat the video with "it was only Ireland/Finland".
And I do feel they were solid performances
But I feel the caveat needed to be permanently plastered across the video just as a contant reminder.
Mate, never seen you before, but that was great analysis
Put him there and under carsley system he will score lots of goal
Bellingham i dont know where he fits in the team.
@@greengrass811ok mr arrigo sachi
@@esseffsee although white maybe a tool. At this moment in time he is the best right back. He doesn't give the ball away like trent. Is a much better defender and he is a wonderful crosser of the ball. A fit reece James is probably are only better right back than him.
I am not an arsenal fan either but white is much better player than trent.
I was so impressed with Angel Gomes
Ayo Adam my boy, can we get a Wales under Bellamy video? The style of play has changed a lot, does he have good ideas?
Cheers
Not even listened to the vid but avthubs up for Lee Carsley
Good video, again!
North London Derby video's been taken down by the Prem. So because of copyright, one can't even analyse the game now... brilliant
They will just keep getting better under carsley ❤
This makes me think of Liverpool’s future system, Bradley would fit at LB like Lewis in this video, exchanging positions with forward players and then there is Gravenberch plucking gaps. Szobo finding spaces on the flanks while Trent stays closer to the middle of the pitch
As an example, Lewis, Grelish and Gordon could all swap positions if one of three initiates a move into another zone. It’s essentially a diamond in build up with Angel at the base and Kane at the tip. Those 2 are constant alongside the CB’s for the most part.
Why dont they just give Lee Carsley the job? He won the u21 euros and we love what were seeing.
I've been waiting for this
And now I got here late 😂...
I noticed you're using your phone to record the audio... I kept getting attracted to it😂
Does anyone know of a channel that provides tactical analysis as good as this? These videos are great.
There are a few others of a similar level but these guys are right up there. Great channel!
I hope this enables them to not become overrun in the midfield against the better teams. It makes total sense to practice this strategy before the big games.
That witch doctor that Gomes went to see had worked absolute wonders😂😂
Carsley is so underrated
I'd sure love to see a video about Poch coaching the US!
Seems like more of them need to view your brilliant vids.
it hurts me to remember that United loose Angel Gomes on free transfer a few years back
Carrington is far behind in training curriculum when it comes to developing players that build up on the back.
Best ever game of futball I ever seen for english side!!!! 100000! % credit for Li Crasly!!!!
“It’s supposed to be fun.” 👍
"He understands time and space better than Professor Brian Cox" lol!!!
Angel Gomes! Man U would literally kill to have him back.
Gomez was outstanding in this game. So was Trent and kane. Great performance lads
Dangerous not playing a 3 2 rest defence. But kind of refreshing.
