Mine arrived today, the original g7, and I was so excited it looked fantastic and felt so smooth and responsive, but then I booted up Doom Eternal and instantly had awful flickering and scanlines. Boxed it back up and I'm returning it tomorrow. Such a shame it's a really awesome monitor otherwise, but the only way I could reduce the issues was lowering the sharpness to the point of being unusably blurry. Couldn't even update firmware since it shipped with the latest version.

Ahh that is sad to hear. And to think we've had several people claim the issues are resolved! The way I see it though, at least you picked it up early on and still able to get it replaced / changed.

    Great video.
I was half hoping you would mention the severe glue issue in the monitor, where heat from the sun (or the monitor, I dunno) liquifies the glue holding the pixel-layer in front of the backlight... causing a gap to show up between the pixel-layer and the backlight, thereby opening up a huge, bright and very warm space for insects to get trapped on the backlight behind your pixels. (It is a very strange 3d effect :-))
Only RMA can fix this, trying to use superglue doesn't work. And RMA just replaces what feels like 95% of the monitor (the front part) while keeping only the black plastic shell with the VESA mount place on the backside.

I have a question that no matter where I look I have trouble finding a definite anwser. If I want to play a game on this monitor, that is in the range of 25fps-60fps is there a combination of the settings that will prevent flickering/stuttering/tearing. • @DoubleTakeTechUk
      @DoubleTakeTechUk  ปีที่แล้ว

Difficult one to say without having them side by side but you will have to come to the terms with the fact a 1440p Monitor, even if output signal is 4k, can only show 1440p equivalent pixels. So it will not be as good as a native 4k display.
Saying that, at 27inch / 28inch, 4k displays should not feel considerably different to 1440p monitors. If you are going down this route, I would highly suggest stick to a 27inch version of this monitor. Or increase the distance between yourself and the monitor. The larger display would make your experience worse as most people agree, 32inch is the limit for 1440p monitors in terms of sharpness.

Ngl struggling to make a decision. Either I get the G7 or the LG ultragear 27GP850-B (I think what you’ve replaced this with). But I feel kinda overwhelmed and have no idea what one I should be getting.
I mainly play fps and league of legends. I always thought since the G7 had higher brightness it’s brightness and such would be nicer. But IPS panels are apparently better.
I’ve then heard the VA vs IPS panel debate and everything else which has concerned me.
I do wanna use my monitor for long term and want to watch movies, TH-cam (when I buy some speakers) and also do work on it when necessary.
The LG is currently $700 on sale (usually $804) so it’s a bit off but the G7 isn’t on sale and I could wait for it to go on sale but it is currently $869.
Honestly not sure what would be best for long term and especially when the G7 seems like it’s really buggy and not working properly/at it’s full potential. Yes, I agree it could be but it’s kinda a roll of the dice.
I’m not sure what one to get and honestly think both are gonna be better then like 1080 60hz monitor that I doubt was made for gaming. So anything would be a good upgrade. But yeah. I’m a bit overwhelmed. Not sure if you’ll answer this or if/when you do it would matter time wise but do you have any pros vs cons with these two? Honestly could use some help. Keep up the vids tho, I’ve watched a couple now to try understand these monitors more so it’s been helpful to say the least.

I didn't want to buy it because of all the people complaining on reddit about the issues, but I wanted a monitor with good picture quality decent hdr and high refresh rate because I have an amd gpu.
I was thinking of getting the lg 32gp850 but it isn't available in my country sold and shipped by amazon so I got the g7, now I might just get some 250€ monitor on amazon which has 1440p and 144hz-165hz with freesync(LG 32GN63T), at least I won't have an epilepsy attack every time its night time in-game.

I feel quite fortunate with how my Odyssey G7 performs in gaming, but I do notice the scanline issue being annoying under pretty specific circumstances and have only noticed them on occasion in Doom 2016. The biggest problem I have which I haven't seen mentioned here is the atrocious performance of videos that are not at 1440p or downsampled 4K. Even 720p, which just needs scaled up by a nice integer of 4, still has horrific artifacting and is particularly noticeable in dark scenes. Thankfully my 1080p monitor sitting beside it works fine for video.

But, people will react differently to curved screens; many people will hate the curve! The shop I got mine from allows returns of most products within 2 weeks if you don't like them, so I thought I should try it out. Unfortunately for me I had to return this monitor (but I did learn a lot thanks to it so its not a total loss). I had a 27 variant and the curve is quite frankly a complete disaster my eyes still hurt even a day after.
To read a text on the left you have a completely different eye focus than the right because of the angle. Its an issue at every distance unless you sit very far away but than the text is too small so what is the point.
Even if by any chance you ware refocusing your eyes all your life and it doesn't cause eyestrain in your case, the weird sharpness will kill it for you. At 56 its blurry and at 60 its an oversharpened mess. It extends to every edge even in games, it always feels unnatural.
Also the backlight bleed is coupled with poor viewing angles (mostly because of the distortion the shape provides).
The coating used has weird "purple like" tint in deep darkness at an angle (nano dot or similar I guess) it also messes with my eyes.
So if you do not like any of the points I mentioned do not buy this monitor.

Hello, I had an RTX 2070 laptop which I used with this screen. With triple A titles, you would not be able to achieve anything near the 240Hz refresh rate at 1440p. With everything else, like watching movies or doing work, this monitor handled it fine.
So if you are getting it for gaming, you probably wont be able to get anywhere near the max performance of this monitor. I use to get like 90FPS at 1440p in call of duty warzone. I hope that helps.

Minimum brightness not low enough = go to windows settings and lower the brightness, duhh?! xD
The curve glare = I have no problem with that and my window is over my left shoulder.
Scanlines = Not every monitor has that, you should return it if you have it, also that was a very early adoptation issue lmao, they fixed it such a long time ago :O
It's not HDR = Who cares, TVs should have HDR not monitors.
Curve takes space = Buy a deeper desk
These are just childish things. This beast of a QLED monitor beats even the best of the best IPS / Nano IPS monitors altogether and priced much better nowadays. I got it for 400 euros. My best monitor so far. I had Alienware 2720hfa and aw2721d before. Hands down, MASSIVE upgrade even from the aw2721d.

Sure, your entitled to your opinion. We’re just giving ours via the video, your welcome to not watch the video if you do not agree with it.
      Nonetheless, a response to your comment is in order;
Brightness - the review is for the monitor and it’s standalone lack of low min brightness, not for what you can do with it in windows or a console. We find it annoying, given many panels at the same price or lower provide a much lower minimum brightness.
Glare - your opinion and experience which you are entitled to, doesn’t change the physics of light convergence from a convex surface.
Scanlines - not fixed and exists on every G7, due to the inherent tech.
HDR - sure, and we agree. However, we are of the opinion that they shouldn’t brand it as HDR.
Curve takes space - not every room has space for a deeper desk, nor does everyone consider this when buying the monitor, so it’s a good point to keep in mind.
That said, we love the monitor and it’s still the best 1440p monitor you can buy (IMO), these are just those little niggles that annoy us.
      Thanks for the comment. 😊
