    Here's my hypothesis. MANY more people will care about clip duration (total recording time) over clip integrity (stable frame rate and dropped frames).

      great video and those are some difficult tests, well done thanks! I guess even pros sometimes need a certain level of long registration capability for some casual live sessions or concerts which don't require DSLR level quality. Since Xperias are practically the only high-end phones that keep SD card slots, this should be their advantage but not a vulnerability caused by not willing to add some cooling components. Just bit of let down, like the 1IV is so close to be a dream phone.

      Still, I think the negative reviews on the Sony 1 and Sony 5 were justified.
      The biggest setback for purchase is that they're made in a limited quantity. They're sold in limited markets. They're expensive. If I wanted one, I would need to import it which means: risk, middleman fees, import taxes, and No Local Warranty.
      I may overlook these major shortcomings. Because the industry is so rotten these days, but that requires no major issues from Sony. Sadly this device has a few.

    There is a cell phone case mod I've seen that supposedly helps syphon out some of the heat prolonging the use (albeit, I've seen it more for gaming). They put thermal pads on a piece of heatsink and made holes so the fins stick out of the phone case. The sticky side is stuck on the heatsink and the foamy thermal pad that isn't sticky to the phone and when they put it all together, the back basically has the fins sticking out. You can also buy fans that stick to the back of your phone nowadays just search for "mobile phone cooler" or "mobile phone radiator". idk how effective these are tbh but maybe someone can test them out 😉😉 nudge nudge 😆 some of the more popular phones even have phone cases with built in fans for sale.

    • @BlameGamerOfficial
      @BlameGamerOfficial 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Michael Fischer is no longer an individual to be trusted. It's been that way for more than a year. He is actually suggested a tablet could be a "professionals" tool. No professional can do all their work of a PC/Laptop. Most professional software doesn't even run on the limited ram available on high powered laptops. Most people in my industry (Assurance) end up sending elite books to double RAM before it can be used. He seems to have an issue with Sony as a brand, complains about the price but keeps telling people to take a chance on a Fold or Flip. Both have actually failed during recent years due to display failure. He is a reviewer for the super stupid and financially foolish.

    I wish Sony allowed you to put their camera apps in the game launcher so you can enable hs power control or at the very least make it a toggle in the apps themselves.
    I side loaded the videography pro APK from the pro I onto my 1 III and I just have that in the game launcher to use his power control. I kinda want to test how well that may help heat management.

      I've been begging for that since the X1ii.

    • @iamchampchannel
      @iamchampchannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that doesnt help.. HS control is to bypass the power input to sustain phone operating and not charging into battery itself so lesser heat generated.. it is not suppress the heat direct as it mean..

      But... Wouldn't bypassing the battery give us a bit more thermal buffer when using the camera hard?

      Not sure if this will make things easier, but someone figured out that Google Maps innately works with HS Power Control. So of you want, you can just have Google Maps running in the background to turn it on "permanently".
      Not as elegant as your solution but throwing it out there just in case it comes in handy for some weirdly specific scenarios.

    On a side note, Sony just announced an active cooler case for the Xperia 1 IV, however, it is tailored for mobile gaming usage, no opening for the lenses, which is a pity, considering the users can take longer high def video with the cooler on.
    I gotta admit, I am a bit skeptic to get the Xperia 1 IV phone, given that I have had a bad experience with camera overheating and shutdown while shooting high resolution and frame rate video, in this case, a DJI Action 2 action camera which I like the size but not so much on how the unit's thermal dispense method.

    Thank you so much for doing gods work Juan!
    Great Video about a much less talked about subject of discussion that really DOES MATTER to all potential customers.
    Poor showing by Xiaomi, that is literal deceit, it should just target 45FPS & then Record consistently at 45FPS instead, or, actually limit 4K 60FPS recording lengths too whatever amount of time it can handle before the framerate drops below 59.96FPS.
    102FPS and 105FPS with the OnePlus phones also needs to be addressed, and either locked to 90FPS, or, once again limit maximum recording lengths to a lower amount of time.
    Sony really pulled out the big guns here!
    I would be interested too see if the video that is produced from each phone uses the same bitrate for video & audio as that might also explain differences in what the quality of the output file is like.
    I would hope that they all use the same bitrate but Zi suspect that they possibly don't.....
    And this now brings into question what the "Audio Recording & Playback" qualities are like on each respective phone, do any of these phones have a static Audio Recording bitrate or does it dynamically adjust?
    And I guess you could ask the same question about if the Video bitrate is static or dynamic too!
    Theirs far more to these devices than most reviewers tend to cover and it can be frustrating as a potential customer when trying to make an informed purchasing decision.
    Once again, thanks for the amazing content, and keep up the great work, your community loves you for the effort that you put into making such incredible videos!
    Peace to you my dude!

    Another great and real review.
    I really think Sony should listen to this sort of review and focus on these comments for the advertising.
    Sony's always focus on the Pro tier setup and usage, and I think a lot people that buy phones because the advert told them it's the best phone, would be the sort that would buy Sony if it become known as professionals level phones.

    Honest Question: If a frame rate drops in the forest from 120 FPS to 102 FPS, can anybody see it?
    Assuming that it's not slow-mo.
    BTW, love love, love the minutiae of this video, Juan. When I'm interested, I don't merely watch these videos --- I pore over them. I rewind sections, sometimes multiple times. I digest. I sometimes watch them multiple times over a number of weeks or months. These videos are consistently go to. They actively inform my next purchases. They cut the effort of my due diligence by spans and give me confidence.
    I don't typically gush like this. If your level of analysis was common, I wouldn't take the time. But it's just not.

    I am looking to upgrade my phone and have always been a Samsung fan, that is till they got rid of the SD card slot... on my SD card I mainly use it to store music playlists and full albums and didn't want the hassle to start from scratch uploading stuff to the phone memory (if did would be looking at the 256GB phone which can be quite expensive). I also do like the idea of wired headphones which again Samsung have got rid of. For this was looking at the Sony and was a bit worried about the overheating but heard some improvement has been made with the firmware upgrades (but this did sound a bit suspect to me for as understand was a hardware issue not a software issue). I can't see me using the 4K video shooting much and heard at normal HD quality video shooting it takes longer to heat up. Still not sure what to do so at the moment still got my Samsung S8.

    Hey, isn't it possible for manufacturers to include a feature where if a certain quality+framerate (Say 4K@60 or 4K@120fps) can't be maintained any longer, an option to lower down quality and/or framerate (depending on which the user prioritises) should show up, tapping "ok" will lower them, otherwise "cancel" will stop recording
    That would give more freedom and flexibility depending on situation instead of either losing the frames or the recording itself

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I WANT that so bad. I think manufacturers are afraid of confusing customers or fielding additional tech support calls, but those of us trying to push phones would certainly appreciate it. Like MotionCam will show dropped frames, and it makes me SO happy.

    Has anyone ever tested extreme shooting limitations while keeping the phone submerged in cold water, either fully or partially? Fully would make it harder but it's entirely possible to keep a phone's "lens unit" directly up against glass while submerged so as to be able to capture video as clean as it would be out of the water. Obviously audio would need to be captured separately but most professional footage is captured that way, anyhow. Would be a fun experiment, for sure. 4k60 instead of 30 has become more important to me lately surprisingly in lowlight. On my pixel 6 and insta3060 1", when using software stabilization, it will drop exposure to 1/30 by default at night. I've found the stabilization is much better at 1/60 and above making the footage look way better even at double the iso.
