  • A few pictures of the restoration of my Land Rover 90.
    It was a long time coming but I got their in the end, plenty of galvanised parts and hopefully last a lifetime.
    I am more suited to being in the garage rather than behind a computer trying to make a video, but I will try again soon to put some captions and/or music into the background.

    Very nice rebuild and in a very confined space! I enjoyed the attention to detail you put into it. There are too many restoration videos on TH-cam that just paint over the problems and fix none of the issues. You restored my faith in TH-cam restoration videos! My OCD thanks you... 😉👍

      Thank-you for your kind words Darren, and thank-you for taking the time to watch.
      I have built a few in the past, every one is a learning curve and you always learn something new, or find some way of improving the last one.
      So the galvanising seemed to be the next stage for me, on previous projects, if I had painted something then in a few years the rust started bleeding through it would annoy me, at least this will stop that regardless of if the paint has been damaged/chipped etc.
      I guess sometimes life takes over and you don't have time to work on the projects, that is the case for me at the moment and I haven't touched the current one for over a year.
      Keep up with you project chap, I am sure you will get their in the end.

    I’m guessing this is a hobby that earns you a few shillings pocket money. If you paid a Company to do a rebuild like this it would cost thousands. Well done meticulous detailing, superb finish and I’m guessing extremely rewarding when you look back at the before and after. Especially when you have limited room.

      Haha, I was on a budget too, but sometimes things get out of hand, you start thinking I've gone this far so why not do this, or that, and oh I'll just do this..
      It seems a never ending cycle, but in my mind I would rather do it once than be going over stuff I wished I had done the first time around :)

    incredible build, not only the work gone in to it but the fact it was all done in that small drive hah, where are you based maybe you could give my 90 a lick! (WAVE)

    • @donnydefenders
      @donnydefenders  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank-you for your kind words, the small drive is somewhat of a challenge, but it just means more thought has to be put into it, i.e what to do next without things being in the way.
      Things took longer than they should have, but space was a massive issue, their was always the fear of damaging something what with having nowhere to store freshly painted panels etc..
      On the plus size I have since built myself a bigger garage and gained a longer drive should I want to do another one.
      Oh, and I'm in Doncaster.

    For a moment you got me thinking you're gonna rebuild on the old chassis, but you made the right choise to replace that with an all-galvanised new chassis, fortunately. I'm curious how long it took you to do this? I calculated 750h for my Series3 and I did not even take the axels apart, had already bought army-restored engine and gearbox and let the painting be done by a pro. So your project, which I highly respect doing all that in that narrow lane and garage, must have taken twice that time?
    Congrats for being able to go all the way, I know how hard it is to keep going...

    how do you galvanize the whole chassis?

  • @desertbreeze1620
    @desertbreeze1620 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would you mind explaining how you separated the bonnet frame from the bonnet skin? I am trying, but without great success... Thank you!

    • @donnydefenders
      @donnydefenders  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bonnet skin is riveted to the frame.
      Their is a few at the back of the bonnet on the top and more running all around the inside edge.
      If these are drilled out the frame with a little bit of persuasion will come out.
      They are bonded to each other, but not very well, so if it is a little stiff to come out try shoving a scrapper of some form between the skin and frame to free it up.
      Hope that helps chap.

  • @sean1216

    Looks brilliant, and a lots of skill involved no doubt.
    Did you get most of the parts galvanised, or did you have to get them galvanised after you bought them? Did you find a supplier to give decent discounts, or were bits bought from different places?

    • @donnydefenders
      @donnydefenders  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, all of the galvanised parts are the originals that where removed, they where shot blasted or cleaned up with a wire wheel in the grinder and then sent for galvanising as a job lot.
      Worksop galvanising did that, and it is cheaper than you would think. Well worth getting done on a project if you have the time / facility's to so.

    Bet it still leaks oil ;) Very nicely done, I like how you've restored it back into original Land Rover Green, like the heritage models. I have a F reg 90 that is in need of a new chassis. Been putting it off as its such a big job. Never know what you'll find when you start something like this.

    • @donnydefenders
      @donnydefenders  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Shellard thank you 🙏 The problem you have is, once you start to strip and rebuild one you never know what you are going to find.
      A vehicle can look all fine and dandy on the outside but their are always hidden things you don’t expect.
      That said, I would recommend anyone to rebuild their Land Rover. It is a great experience and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
