  • 2014 Toyota Avalon XLE Review featuring a used model with 77k miles on it. After test driving this used 2014 Toyota Avalon, I believe this is one of the best-used cars you can get. I also did a full review on the 2021 Toyota Avalon here: • WATCH THIS 2021 Toyota...
In the quest for an affordable used daily driver, I think this Toyota Avalon XLE is a great choice. It's an excellent driving vehicle, better than what most would give it credit while being extremely quiet. There are not many compromises when you purchase a V6 powered Toyota Avalon.

I love these model year Avalons. The wheels are pretty simple and slick looking too, nothing too fancy and ugly like newer cars.
Also a perfect example of why buying used makes sense... even in this current market.
This car is even more luxurious than many modern brand new cars.
Half MSRP, half the sales tax, dirt cheap insurance... for a V6 Toyota!

I bought a 2014 Avalon back in Feb of this yr and I absolutely love it. I've owned many vehicles in my 42 yrs but the Avalon is my favorite. As a mechanic I will never have another car brand period unless Toyota just decides to start making shit cars. Im always working on Fords, Chevys, Cadillacs, Buicks, GMC's , Chrysler, Jeeps, a few Hondas here and there, a few Bmw's but I may get 1 Toyota to everything I named above. Maybe one Toyota every every few months

I’m a mechanic too, I convinced my mom to get a Lexus CT200h and I just orders a Hilux, fortunately can them over here in Europe. Back in the States I drive everything else and didn’t see the appeal of Toyota. But maybe getting older makes me want to work less on my own cars.

Bought a 2016 Limited with 48K miles. Great car. Only two issues for me. Seat is to firm for me and it is a bit boring to drive
as you stated it is very quiet and it has zero feed back from the road due to electronic steering. I do not mind the boring part as I am 65 now and after many years of FUN German cars, I now value smooth and quite and very high reliability. The firm seat is a easy fix with limitless seat cushion options.

I'm cross-shopping a 2014 Avalon Hybrid against a 2015 Lexus ES330h, but the big selling point for the Toyota is the upgradeable infotainment system vs the proprietary mess the Lexus has. This video was very helpful in gearing me towards the Toyota. Well done!

Outside of the infotainment system and ES350 manual clock, they are essentially the same car. I test drove gas models of the same two years and preferred the Avalon due to the infotainment system, even though the ES had .9 inch more back seat room and the manual clock. Everything else was that same.

The rear bracing is keeping the seats from folding down. They do it to enhance the stiffness of the body structure, which helps reduce NVH. It is also the cheaper way of doing it.

I have a 2014 avalon xle with just under 20k miles. Bought it in December 2014, so just over 8 1/2 years. Beautiful sizzling crimson mica paint with almond interior. I'm 66 and this may possibly be the last car I ever buy if I continue to put so few miles on it. What makes it special is that it has a sports package optjon which I've only seen on two others in all these years. 19 inch tires, BBS sport wheels, rear spoiler, side pinstriping, LED daytime running lights. The larger tires and sport wheels give the car a totally different look, sometimes reminds me of a BMW 7 series. I always drive in sport mode and although it doesn't have the balls of the Infiniti g37s I traded in for it, when I need to pass or just want more aggressive acceleration, it responds very well. The rear seats do not fold down which is a big miss for the designers. Mine has the stock non-JBL radio and it's just alright.
Recently had the car detailed in and out and looks brand new. Love the paint, looks like it has crystals in it, really stands out. Its been garaged kept its whole life. I paid $35k for it new on a zero percent 5 year loan. I get quotes in the mail to trade it in for like $16k. Lol. With the low amount of miles, I don't think Id take less than $23-25k if I was looking for a new car. But why get myself into a monthly payment when I'm still driving a practically new car.

Maybe not the most exciting car on the planet, but they are hard to beat value to dollar. Great gas mileage, and they do not break. I think for the money the Avalon is as good as it gets, it is a Toyota after all. At 77k you have plenty of life left. Great review.

Love my 2014 Avalon. It's like getting a lexus (same engine, similar interior) at a toyota price. I do get tail gated a lot - I think most people assume an old man is driving in front of them, but I have no complaints. Change the oil and go - not a single mechanical issue. My kids are in their teens and on family trips, this car really helps with leg room compared to the camry. Backseats are huge and comfortable.

Another Top-Notch Review Yo ! I must state Toyota did an admirable job of making this generation of Avalons less of a senior citizen mobile. The paddle shifters however, too much of a stretch as this car is still just a boulevard cruiser. As far as the REAR seat "fold down" is concerned ? I think that middle compartment pass through door is the only access to the trunk. Upgraded set of tires to enhance the driving experience go with a set of Pirelli P-Zero's if you're fortunate to live in a warm weather climate. Pricier but in my opinion well worth the extra spendola's. Keep ^Up^ The Great Content Fella'. 🔜 💯 👍

In May of 2022 I paid way more than the car was worth, just over $27000. A 2015 avalon limited. I'm doubling up on the monthly payments to stay ahead; meaning the interest, 6%. It seems like that was due to the $$ increase in used car market. It had 56,000 miles on it when I bought it in May 2022. I just put 57,000 on it.

    Bought a 14 XLE Touring in 2019 with 50k miles for $14k.
Less expensive than comparable Camrys at the time.
Less we’ll known and less demand, but a better car for less money.
Did a Carvana quote in 2021 for fun and they were offering $17k (and that’s their wholesale price), like all cars during that timeframe went up in price.
It is surprisingly nimble for what it is (full size fwd Japanese sedan) if you’re willing to push it.
    I’ve owned a IS300, G35, and 328i.
Not quite as nimble as those cars, especially the BMW.
But you can push it a lot harder than most would think.
I always put good AS performance tires on my cars though.
    Bridgestone Potenzas on it now.
125k on it now, and no issues.
Regular oil changes and fluid maintenance.
Just did the front brakes and spark plugs.
One thing to note on any vehicle with the 2GR-FE engine (and a lot of models in this era have it) is the rear bank of spark plugs take some labor to get to.
I DIY’d them, but saw quotes on forums for $800 from several years ago, probably more now.

Best car ever! Ok maybe not but good enough for me. 2013 Touring, around 25,000 miles. Swapped the stereo for a Pioneer head unit, 10" tablet style. Rocks for not changing the amp or speakers. Yeah more would be better, future work.

We were looking at this car, a Cadenza Limited, and Impala Premier. We really liked the Avalon, but the Impala was a better overall ride and looked a bit sharper, so that's what we got. I really appreciate the straightforward honesty in your reviews. Let me ask you this...what is your favorite full sized V6 near luxury style sedan? I'm not talking Mercedes or anything like that, but the more mainstream affordable type V6 sedans. Thanks

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I did like the Cadenza but interior wasn't amazing on it considering it just had a bunch of gloss black plastic everywhere. Avalon and ES 350 would most likely be my choice. ES for sure because of the better build quality and materials

@@MeynMotorGroup Have you tried others like the 300, Impala, Azera, etc....? I recently rode in a 2021 ES 350 ultra luxury, and while it was great, I wasn't very impressed at 54k to be honest. The 2016 style Avalon was a fantastic car for the money on the used market. I never thought I'd say this about a Chevy, but that Impala Premier we bought blew me away. Especially for the money. It rides better than anything short of a pure luxury style sedan

I love driving and am wondering which is the better driving vehicle between the 2013-2018 generation Toyota Avalons & the 2013-2018 Lexus ES 350? Handling & overall sporty driving is important to me. Lexus GS 350's are outside my budget.

    • @cibo4569
      @cibo4569 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

2013 - 2018 avalons and lexuses (lexi?) Share the same platform, so they feel similar in some ways. But lexus is more luxurious, quieter, better materials and overall quality. Avalon has a tad bit better handling; feels slightly sportier. Imo just get the avalon, best bank for the buck. Also, after the 2015 model year of the avalon, it got a softer suspension and a plushier ride at the cost of handling.

The Camry XLE is essentially a base Avalon. The top Avalon is essentially a Lexus ES350. Think about that when pricing them. I hated Toyota taking away the reclining back seats around 2008 or 9. The best engine was the 2005 280hp version. I loved the interiors of that model more as well due to the unique covers. Toyota also started decreasing the size of the fuel tank. My only complaints with the older ones were the headliners would peel and the trunk space was much smaller than top competitors. Other than that, it's one of my dream cars. I test drove a few and an 05 Limited was my favorite because it did have the quiet, floating feel.

    • @MeynMotorGroup

The main difference is the GS is rear wheel drive or AWD. Slightly better performance and ride, both come at a higher cost. The Lexus interior is much nicer. The Toyota is a great buy for the money however. Similar ride quality compared to a Lexus for less.
