  • I unexpectedly bought a 'broken' AS-IS chainsaw from Tractor Supply. Lucky for me, it wasn't as broken as they thought.

That is so funny. I just walked out of tractor supply with the same chainsaw that has a yellow tag hanging off of it. And this case they were selling it for $180 and they said that the top handle was broken, there's nothing broken only a discoloration from stress. It's brand new and never used.

Thanks man, this helped me solve the mystery with my 440. Turns out that tension spring on the inside just wasn’t sitting up in the little molded in guides. That 32nd of an inch really made the difference.

Great deal on a nice little saw. Ive been using the same one for 3 years strong. Love the reduced price tags at Tractor Supply. Usually something simple like this. Good stuff man.

Of all the chainsaws that I've owned in my life, this H 440 is the cheapest built, with the most design flaws. I'm constantly working on it.

Just grabbed the same saw from TSC for the same price, with the same issue. Tag said bad clutch. Guy tried running it with the brake on. 😆

Nice video. Nice deduction on the problem - the manual (online) notes the need to rotate that 3-point brake adjuster to avoid locking the brake, but you figured it out nicely! I just bought a used 440 that was really dirty but cleaned up OK and starts easily. Installed a new chain and it's a winner, light and easy to use.

THANK YOU!!! just bought one of these yesterday first time using it today and I got the chain stuck in tree so popped the blade off put it back together and wouldn't work. Spent two hours tinkering with it with no results. Came across your video problem fixed. The reason for the issue is taking the cover off with the brake in wrong position.

I own a stihl and a ten year old husky 440, the husky wins in every way, it always starts and has saved me during a 10 below deer hunt that dumped 2 feet of snow it started second pull cleared the road several times. Best saw I have ever had. It’s a little different but once you get used to it you will love it.

Man, i love a great deal like that because SOMEONE didnt read the manual or they dont knoe how the tool operates. I bought a lawnmower 18 years ago(still have it) for $25 because it "wouldn't stay running". Turns out the vented fuel cap was clogged. Cleaned that bad boy out, and im still cutting grass with it today. Good for you!

I bought a Husq 440x from Habitat for $7. It looked barely used. They knew nothing about it and never tried starting it.
Heck, for $7?? Who’d walk away from that? I bought it and can’t get it started right now, but I will.

You’ve probably long figured this out but for anyone else curious, when you remove the side cover on a Husqvarna make sure you disengage the chain brake or it’ll be a bitch to get back on.

  • @briankennedy5578
    @briankennedy5578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Those chain brakes sometimes get tripped with the cover off. Then to get it back on correctly, do as you did. It's a common occurrence.

Awesome buy! But please adjust the tension on both your chainsaws! it wont be a pretty sight if the chain pops off while rotating at 9 to 13k rpm, bad for the chainsaw, bad for hands, arms, and/or legs. General rule the links should never hand loose off the bar rail.
Nice video, and good final advice!

@@MrJustinWheeler NP, has she been reliable?
I've been runing a 50cc einhell (german) chainsaw with the same exposed clutch design, even tho shes been reliable, i dont have a Einhell dealer nearby, but i do have a Husky dealer 5minutes away, so im considering getting one for the parts availability down the road if something goes wrong, and leaving my Einhell as a backup.

@@ytaky It runs great. But to be honest, I haven't used it much. When a job comes up that requires just a few quick cuts, I tend to grab one of my battery powered chainsaws. I do have a big project coming up though where I will be happy to have the gas motor.

It is interesting to me that yours has screws that needed loosening and tightening when taking the cover off and putting in back on. My Husq. 440, which is almost a decade older, has just the center nut wheel (and the tension wheel) holding the cover on. I have no screws to play with when changing the chain or cleaning the sawdust out. .I spin the wheel and the cover comes off, spin the nut back on when replacing, simple and fast. I am horrified to see a version requiring a screw driver. :)

"This car is almost new and it starts, but it won't go forwards .. Do you wany to buy it, if you get a 47% discount?" Jesus Christ, how unknowing some people are. 200 USD for a 440, wow that's a steal. I'm a bit envious actually. I've been looking for a good deal on the 435 for 2 weeks now. The 440 is a bit too pricey here I live.

Mine ran well for a while till I bought the pre-mixed 50:1 non ethanol gas. Ran rough then wouldn't start. Mechanic said I had straight gas in it. Made me raise an eyebrow. The cylinder wall was scored. He said the saw was ruined and made me feel like a dumb ass. Yeah I look at myself in the mirror every day. Lol

I gotta say….I never expected you had so little power saw experience….what with a farm, a saw mill….I guess I just figured you are a power saw guy. It was pretty clear from jump street that the brake was on. Needs a good sharpening too. Im not a husky guy myself, but I’d have got him down to a hundred bucks at the hour and he’s standin there holdin it….he wanted rid of that but quick! Anyway, if I’m usin a modern saw, it’s Stihl, but my addiction, is Mac and old Macs!! I’ll take any Mac ( well, not fond of the eager beavers), Pro preferred but MacCulloch in general is always welcome! Now, sharpening…Buckin Billy Ray is the best source for anything Mac and sharpening (he’s a TH-camr also), and that’s the place to go. Stihl makes a two in one hand file that I think you’d really like. Nice score on the power saw….still think you coulda finagled him down a wee bit though!!😁😉👊🏻
