    Charlie, Boo is one of the prettiest tri's I have ever seen. Of course, Lizzy and all the family are great dogs. Jamba should be so proud that he represents such beautiful lineage, you as well. Awesome that you chose to keep him. Can't help but adore him. If you recall, I was almost certain that you would choose to keep him. I'm so glad you did.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your kind words, especially about Boo. It's more difficult to see her beauty now, post-spaying, because her coat has gotten curly, wooly, and heavily ticked. She was gorgeous when she was young. I will always remember the day she finished her Grand Championship; the judge, one whom I respect, carried on about how difficult it was to get that sweet look in a Tricolor. That same weekend, one of the top AKC handlers in the country was right behind me in line to enter the ring, and asked me if I bred her. When I said yes, he just said "well done."

    • @francesgarrigus9404
      @francesgarrigus9404 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chaskat35 and so the seed continues to grow in adoration of the breed. Yes she is a beauty but what I've seen in her I miraculously see talent galore and her attentiveness to your voice in loving Jamba. I shed a tear every time you so eloquently speak to Jamba as well as the others, and watch those beautiful brown eyes totally drawn to your next word. The tear? You may ask, is because my Blenheim Gentry who passed Sept 19 2020, ALWAYS focused on my every word. He was always a champion to win my heart. Funny how I started with soft words and a body motion. Nothing elaborate. I could be stopped and speaking to a neighbor on our usual walks and all I had to do was make my body motion and TOTAL attentiveness. The kids would love to watch him paw count numbers. He never missed a time. But the adoration in his eyes and the watchful look he always gave me will be my fondest memory. My adoring shadow still follows me. Sometimes I assume he's still sitting there behind me when I turn around. I will never replace him but I know I would love another as he would want me to do. I'll leave you with this lasting impression of him. When he was two we adopted a teeny tiny preemie shihtzu. We still have her. He immediately became her guardian ALL THE TIME. He insisted that she was always by his side!! If I was petting him he would scoot her closer and insist that she receive the same. Almost as a mother would do with her pup. Now do you see my point. I think you have a pup who will provide you with more love and accomplishment than you could imagine. Enjoy and keep them happy, you will be rewarded. Have a beautiful day.

    So many wonderful, beautiful dogs. We have had 2 Cavs and loved every minute they were with us. Dealt with heart issues and then meds to keep them with us as long as possible. We would adore another one but so afraid of health issues. Is there some way to make the best choice when we do it again ?We love them but are almost afraid to do it again.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only consider a breeder who can show you proof that BOTH PARENTS of the puppy were cleared for heart disease from a cardiologist, and for eye problems from an ophthalmologist, within a year of the breeding. It's a plus if they also have proof that the parents were cleared for patella luxation and hip dysplasia. It's a proven fact that the puppies will follow the health of the parents at about a 90% rate - not an absolute guarantee, but the best possible assurance that your puppy will most likely live a good, long life.
      If you tell me where you're located, I might be able to refer you to a reliable source.

      I know several good breeders in California, but none of them are in your area. If you want a good contact to start with, you might try Wesely Schiffman - she's just north of LA. Not nearby, but she might know of someone closer to you. I"ve known her for a very long time, and I would trust her judgment. Tell her Charlie W referred you.

      Pamuk didn't develop as well as we had hoped. He's a very handsome boy, and has a great personality, but he just wasn't the top-notch example of the breed that would fit into our breeding program. He now lives a very comfortable life right across the street from the beach in Fort Lauderdale FL, with an owner whom we know well.

    Are you keeping Jamba to breed?

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the plan - but, as always, we have to be patient and see how he develops. If he looks good in a couple of months, we will enter him in whatever dog shows we can make. Then, if all still is going well when he's two years old, we'll have him health-tested to make sure he is clear of inherited diseases. If that all checks out, he can be used as a stud dog.

    From the Easter video - Are Bracer and Mitzi (non-Cavalier) still with you guys?

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bracer unfortunately took a bad turn about a week ago. We took him to the vet, and found that he was in end-stage kidney failure, so we had to have him put down. I feel good about the fact that we gave him 14 months of a happy life after his owner passed away, despite being in Congestive Heart Failure for the last few years. Mitzi is still around, but she sleeps almost all day. I didn't introduce her because she likes to be left alone - and because she is not part of the "Cavalier family."

    • @JD-md1hz
      @JD-md1hz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chaskat35 Sorry to hear about Bracer - you gave him a good life after he lost his owner and I admire your dedication to the dogs you breed even after they go to their owners. As I head toward being an old grumpy lady myself I totally understand Mitzi's preference to be left alone

    How do you deal with getting your puppy to social with your man dogs? Currently both my 3 year male cavalier run and hide from 9 week old male and just growl at him when he eats and goes near their toys?

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That kind of fighting is mostly just play fighting, although some of it might be territorial. For the most part, our adult Cavaliers love to play with the puppies.

    • @TBRIANANDY1
      @TBRIANANDY1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chaskat35 my 9 year old female is only one who plays with him. Old males want nothing todo with him...Probably territorial and they don’t want to share attention

    • @cavgrey8
      @cavgrey8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Other male Cavaliers in our neighborhood did not like our boys. They were well socialized, gentle and affectionate with other dogs. Due to Covid and a few personal issues we came off the show circuit. We were not going to return to conformation. Trick dog & obedience is still an option. Once we had them neutered the other male Cavaliers stopped growling at the boys and accepted them with tails wagging.

    • @TBRIANANDY1
