We piled her into the car with a couple other dogs and had a long ride with snacks before her appointment...she was so happy! Turned out she had huge bladderstones and an infection, needed surgery. She also had nails so long they curled under, and impacted fur between her pads; neglected for maybe a year, we think. I sure didn't plan on breeding her, but my 10-month-old male Golden realized she was in heat before I did, I'd been told she was spayed and had shots (but no proof). Every parent/caregiver thinks their own babies are the most cutest/beautiful babies they have ever seen❤ what makes dogs special to me, is the special bond we humans can have with a dog. Some dogs are cuter than others. Its sad to see a cute puppy adopted into a family, but then when the dog gets bigger and less cute they get neglected or yelled at. We need to commit to a Pet for their entire lifetime, not just the cute stage❤
So glad I'm not alone in this - every time a baby was on screen I just sorta sat there waiting for the PUPPIES to come back! I've never, not once, found babies cute, which is why I had a vasectomy at 24.
I'm a dog person but I don't find ALL dogs cute. Some are ugly af (which obviously has nothing to do with their deserving of love, happiness, and a good home.) Adopt, don't shop!
I worked with dogs at Kennels- We saw lots of Huskys but it NEVER occured to me that they didn't make the 'puppy dog' eyes. And I thought I knew a lot about dogs. Wow, learn something new everyday. I love the 'Silver Fox experiment'! I found that fascinating when i watched the documentary on it. I just adore this video. I didn't think i'd enjoy it so much, but as a dog lover I guess it was really awesome.
i have a husky mix (parents were husky and husky-aussie mix) and while she can do the puppy eyes, she will also always vocalise a bit when she wants something. I think the reason pure huskies vocalise even more than her is because they have to so that humans understand what they want while other dogs can do it with their eyes
This kind of makes me think it would be funny to make a little animated sketch about how the huskie can't use its eyes to get what it wants and discovers the song of it's people, lol
Someone who finds all babies cute is more the exception than the norm. This makes evolutionary sense in the harsh, resource-limited world of our caveman ancestors, where finding others babies ‘cute’ risks compromising the ability of a parent to care for the survival of their own babies, if they also feel the pull of caring for the cute babies of others. Finding all dogs cute is easier, as they can more quickly contribute to the survival of the human and require less human care in order to survive. The evolution of the strictly companion lap dog of today is a function of the evolution of our modern society, where the living is easier, with more abundant resources to share with them.
Human groups where every member thinks all babies are cute thrive more compared to ones that don't. The more babies live and prosper, the better for the species.
@@miguelbranquinho7235 , but you just said "human groups". You're constraining the question to individual groups that are a tiny portion of all of humanity. In order to make this claim, you have to first identify a group. So, what makes that group a group? Maybe that's the more important part of the question.
@@NickRoman I used the word group instead of tribe. Do you want me to explain the word "group"? If you combine all the groups of people, you get all people. Certain tribes were more likely to protect their babes than others, and that behavior was reproduced because those babes that were cared for survived better.
Dogs 🐕 have extremely wholesome personalities. Very friendly, easily in a good mood, liking being useful, working on making themselves better, and being extremely curious of the world around them.
There are some things that are cute about dogs that are nothing like babies though. Such as their noses, whiskers, paws, and happy tails. The way their mouths are shaped like Ws. There's got to be more to it than just their resemblance to babies! :P
@@supernovic99 Sure. But one cannot claim that the whole reason we think they're cute is their resemblance to babies. Some of their cuteness is entirely unrelated to being baby-like.
@@nikk6435a lot of wild animal babies need to be cute for the same reasons our babies do. Cuteness builds an incentive for the parent(s) to invest time and energy into taking care of their young. Cuteness is, of course, subjective, but it works more often than not.
@@vinnieg6161 Their slit pupils give that evil look in them - that makes them more appealing to me than dog among other things. Dogs are pretty boring to me. They are very predictable. There was a cat documentary movie that came out during pandemic and the producer was asked why cats, and he said because `dogs are boring` essentially.
@maximodakila2873 Boring? With dogs, you can experience adventures together. Even if just racing through the park. You just have to put in the effort to train them.
@@vinvenus4581 I mean, you can experience adventures together with cats too. That's not unique to dogs. People tend to view cats the same way, like they are lazy or aloof when those people clearly never owned a cat that loved them. Both cats and dogs are good, but they definitely attract different people with different traits.
Dogs could hardly look less like us among mammals, but they act much like us and are near equals in the food chain. They grow up faster than children, but develop much like them. They understand us well -- probably better than we understand them.
I imagine it as someone training a wolf to help them murder their human enemies, but eventually growing to love the first dog with them for how wholesome their personality was. After the enemies were dead.
Retired groomer here.. I learned long ago that to trim a cute face on a fluffy dog the eyes should be just halfway up the face, equal head hair and chin hair. It makes a huge difference in how "cute" the dog becomes. It seems to me that this holds true with people too.. babies and adults.
It’s not just the eyebrow muscles. It’s hard for me to see a relaxed and happy husky or even a wild wolf and not have that “Awww! Look at the cute doggie!” feeling. I mean, look at this wolf, at 5:21 in the video. No raised eyebrows, but still, who could possibly resist the look and body language we all recognize?
Huskies not being able to move their eyebrows has never stopped them from being perceived as cute, in my observation. In fact they're some of the most popular dogs on the Internet. I guess they make up for it by being cute in other ways.
"With animals and people there's a sense of trust with eye contact." Actually, It's ONLY people and dogs that feel that. I don't think I can emphasize enough how much the rest of the animal kingdom hates eye contact and prolonged staring of any kind. Even other domesticated animals don't enjoy eye contact, they're simply inured to it.
If a cat is your friend, they will use eye contact to communicate many things. If you want to make friends with a cat, be cat-polite and do not look them in the eyes (because you don't know one another yet). This, I think, is why cats will make a bee line for the one person in the room who doesn't like cats: that person is usually averting their eyes Also, a cat may pick out the cat-averse person just to bust their chops. 😉
I would have to agree with that last statement..."maybe dogs and humans domesticated each other" ~~~ I'd say the humans need a Whole lot more work at it. As says Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer : " I train Humans..." Whatever craziness the humans are doing, PLEASE spay and neuter your dogs & cats. A world without kill shelters, just imagine! If you have a dog be responsible and do your part.
It's not just about the size of the eyes themselves, it's about the pupil to eye ratio. Our pupils dilate when we see something/someone we love. So our brains automatically associate dilated or bigger pupils or in case of reptiles their entire eye (since it is black and looks like a pupil from a distance), with an expression of friendliness. That's why we find birds, reptiles, rodents and even spiders cute in some cases, because of their higher pupil to eye ratio, despite their eyes being small. Dogs dilate their pupils when they do the puppy face. Same with kids.
I think furriness is part of it. I pretty much want to pet anything furry. Squirrels are funny and cute in a way. What's that about? Brown bears are cute, especially young cubs. It's not just dogs. Bears did not evolve with humans to be cute.
As far as being hardwired to like babies I don't buy it. I don't like the way they look can't stand the way they smell and I'm thoroughly annoyed by the sounds they make. I find babies repulsive in every way. On the other hand puppies are adorable.
Interesting, because babys will grow out of this phase after 2 years. They learn more and will become more independent. But dogs will smell, make noises and be 100% dependent for their whole life time, which is 12-15 years😂💀
Honestly the good news is just check out demographics. Japan, South Korea, China, france, Germany and believe it or not even America if not for immigration all have drastically reducing population levels over the course of the next 80 years. By the end of the century China is going to lose more than 600 million of their population at current rates. So who knows maybe evolution is doing this to us at one point or another we just get tired of children.
It's funny-I've always found baby animals, especially puppies, to be irresistibly cute, but not human babies. (In fact, I find the appearance of human babies to be repulsive.) My wife is the same way, so I know there must be other people who agree.
Not just the appearance, also the noises they make. Puppies make cute noises, babies‘ noises just make me angry. I always wonder how humans could survive with those little things screaming all day and just telling predators: here we are, in this cave, come and eat us…
The silver fox experiment is not a “lovely” experiment. It was cruel and torture for the foxes, if you’ve seen the actual footage you wouldn’t call it cute. Most probably dogs domestication started off like that as well, sadly to say.
Forty-plus years ago, it was already an established and recognized fact that all mammals share basic features when they are young to help them survive, even among other mammals. Mostly, during the pre-pubescent stage (child, kitten, puppy, etc.), all mammals have larger eyes and ears compared to their skulls because these are fully developed in utero, plus they have smaller mouths, a different smell (lack of pheromones) and they cry when in distress. This was established long ago. It explains why we are drawn to kittens, puppies and other baby animals. Also, how some babies have managed to survive in the wild. It was nature's way of helping if something happened to their moms. Because, goodness knows, dad wouldn't step in.
Perhaps there is a part of some of us that subconsciously see infants as an obligation or drain on resources. I've never wanted children because I could never be sure I could take care of myself. But a dog doesn't necessarily "need" to be cute for anyone with a heart to know their loyalty.
I've noticed that some individual cats can have expressive faces. My current one will beg and furrow his brow much like a dog does. Even when he senses something isn't right, he's looking to us with that puppy eye stare.
Human babies are tolerable. I dont like their look, neither do i like their actions( goo goo gaa gaa, etc). But i absolutely love puppies and dogs. When i brought my black haired female lab pup home for the first time. I remember her making small cries and i was ready to give up my life for her. When my at the time 4 year old white lab accidentally hurt his paw a bit too hard. I slept with his on the floor the entire night( he slept on the mat and pillow he has i slept on the hard floor) because i was terrified he might have been injured too much and was crying for just 30mins. I absolutely will not give that kind of love to any human baby( maybe my own but that too a degree also).
Human babies give me the ick. But I adore puppies and dogs. I want to be the doggie godmother to all family and family friends' dogs. I love spoiling our dog as it is. Spoil and love the doggies ❤.
I've Alaskan malamutes I'm pretty sure it's the same. They do have puppy ears though they can move them way more than normal dogs with floppy ears. Their ears are so expressive
I have a basenji and it's exactly the same way with his ears as well. He is very expressive but you have to learn the subtle differences between ear movements.
There is so much talking about babies being cute here, and I understand it theoretically and yet...no? Like, none of the babies shown here were cute really. The one held up by the lady was even ugly. I get nothing looking at them compared to, say, kittens or puppies.
Huskies absolutely can be more detached from their humans, than other breeds. My sister had one, she couldn't do a thing with him, he was always bolting out the door, and he wouldn't run around the block; oh no! He would be found 25 or 30 miles away. That happened 3 times. He was, a bit aloof from his humans. He knew he had them trained lol.
I've heard that most animals have these features when they're babies because it pulls on the heart strings of their own adult family which makes them more likely to survive. 😂
@@Michael-j2d1g Human babies are incredibly needy and helpless for the first couple of months, not what would normally be considered fun. Baby animals skip right to the fun part.
Reading cat body language and facial expressions has always come naturally to me - I've always been able to understand them and act in ways that encourage even new cats to interact and be comfortable with me. When I fostered an injured puppy a few years back, I had to study dog body language so that I could tell what she needed or wanted. I guess it makes sense if a lot of it is in the eyes for them, since I'm autistic. Even when I look back at photos of my beautiful and dearly loved now-departed cats of ten or twenty years ago, my eyes are drawn more to their surroundings than their faces. (Though I'm sure there are autistic people out there who get dogs the way I get cats, just for me cats come more naturally.)
Most of us find animals waaay cuter than babies. My one theory about why is that many animals hit a specific kind of supernormal stimuli in humans. They have all the traits of "cuteness" in babies, but much more exaggerated. Some people don't find babies cute at all, but do with animals. Maybe then cuteness and babies aren't related at all, maybe cuteness has a completely different trigger and babies only sometimes manage to hit it. I have no idea what that "trigger" would be in that case.
I see your pugs and raise you chihuahuas. Pugs can be kind of fixed with a bigger snoot and less wrinkels. Chihuahuas are beyond saving and whoever still buys them, pls stay as far as humanly possible away from me

If you were holding a baby, be it your child or someone else's, and it was facing potential immediate danger, we would immediately do anything to protect that baby, even if it meant potentially getting yourself killed, you would defend and protect that baby with your life. This is a beneficial trait that humans and many species evolved to protect the next generating from harm. We also call it compassion and empathy which turns out to be a very beneficial trait for the survival of our species.

Thought the same - I have no interest in babies whatsoever
dogs are the best. i'm glad they domesticated us ❤
Every parent/caregiver thinks their own babies are the most cutest/beautiful babies they have ever seen❤ what makes dogs special to me, is the special bond we humans can have with a dog. Some dogs are cuter than others. Its sad to see a cute puppy adopted into a family, but then when the dog gets bigger and less cute they get neglected or yelled at. We need to commit to a Pet for their entire lifetime, not just the cute stage❤
I would die to protect a baby but I don't find them cute. They do get cute as they get older. Dogs are cute at any age.
me neither, I never had the urge to cuddle a baby. If its my own baby I will...Otherwise...No.
as a dog rescuer, i am soooo happy they showed an adoption center and not a breeder
Babies are okay... as long as you can give 'em back after you're done!
Occasionally rent one ‘em long enough to remember “oh yeah I can’t stand these things, and thank God for vasectomies and birth control!”
I wouldn’t even want one for a second
So glad I'm not alone in this - every time a baby was on screen I just sorta sat there waiting for the PUPPIES to come back! I've never, not once, found babies cute, which is why I had a vasectomy at 24.

I love my husky. Even though he doesn't give puppy eyes, he howls cutely at me and offers his paws to communicate his adorableness.
i have a husky mix (parents were husky and husky-aussie mix) and while she can do the puppy eyes, she will also always vocalise a bit when she wants something.
That's actually a really good explanation. I've always said that I'd probably find my own baby cute, but other people's babies are hit or miss.
Exa tly. I made that point too.
Eyes. That's the resemblance they were talking about. That's also why Disney princesses are made to have big eyes

@maximodakila2873 Boring? With dogs, you can experience adventures together. Even if just racing through the park. You just have to put in the effort to train them.

I personally think what makes dogs and babies cute are their innocence and purity. This might be true to a lot of animals as well, baby or not.
And their playfulness and joy ❤😊
Dogs could hardly look less like us among mammals, but they act much like us and are near equals in the food chain. They grow up faster than children, but develop much like them. They understand us well -- probably better than we understand them.

How did dogs first become domesticated , one of our ancestors found a lost wolf puppy or puppies and the bond began .
I imagine it as someone training a wolf to help them murder their human enemies, but eventually growing to love the first dog with them for how wholesome their personality was.
After the enemies were dead.
Babies have already been “outcuted” by puppies
Dogs did not break a sweat; easy win. Opponent was out of league.

@@Bunny11344 Maybe in your case
Retired groomer here.. I learned long ago that to trim a cute face on a fluffy dog the eyes should be just halfway up the face, equal head hair and chin hair. It makes a huge difference in how "cute" the dog becomes. It seems to me that this holds true with people too.. babies and adults.
So THAT is why Huskies talk so damn much. They can't express themselves with their eyes. This is fascinating.

I really don't think babies are cute.........But I love dogs!!! Dogs are so cute
I think furriness is part of it. I pretty much want to pet anything furry. Squirrels are funny and cute in a way. What's that about? Brown bears are cute, especially young cubs. It's not just dogs. Bears did not evolve with humans to be cute.
@@NickRoman Yes it's definitely a contributing factor. But seals and hippos are also cute to me
Husky’s don’t need eyebrows. They say everything they want with side eye and RBF 😂😂😂😂
But dogs will smell, make noises and be 100% dependent for their whole life time, which is 12-15 years😂💀
I'm glad that I'm not alone in feeling like this. Honestly I wish more people felt like this because we are breeding ourselves into extinction.
I always wonder how humans could survive with those little things screaming all day and just telling predators: here we are, in this cave, come and eat us…
Well if I have to choose a big responsability I will choose a Dog 🐶, never a child.
The silver fox experiment is not a “lovely” experiment.
It was cruel and torture for the foxes, if you’ve seen the actual footage you wouldn’t call it cute.
Most probably dogs domestication started off like that as well, sadly to say.
I find Wolves cute, too.
I find certain dog breeds very cute, but I don't really find babies cute. I know many others agree with me. I'm curious why this is!
Perhaps there is a part of some of us that subconsciously see infants as an obligation or drain on resources. I've never wanted children because I could never be sure I could take care of myself. But a dog doesn't necessarily "need" to be cute for anyone with a heart to know their loyalty.
My Shiba has the biggest smile when she plays and that is just so cute.

Wolves really look like the adult form of a dog.
We r so lucky to have dogs!
As a former baby, I also agree with the comment section that puppies have always been cuter.
Whoever published those papers got to stare at puppy eyes xd
I've heard that most animals have these features when they're babies because it pulls on the heart strings of their own adult family which makes them more likely to survive. 😂

I definitely click with cats more. I don't understand why people act like cats are impossible to read or they are unpredictable. They really aren't

Too much cuteness! I have to leave!!❤
