85mm F1.4 vs 105mm F1.4 Portrait Challenge

Which is better for portraits? The Nikon 85mm F1.4 or the 105mm F1.4? While both are amazing lenses, I wanted to test them out in the field with regular people and capture some comparison images.

So.. say you have an assignment which involves a lot of full body portraits, the 105mm is more suitable?!

I don't think you can go wrong with either Kevin. It depends what you are looking for when you are capturing those full body portraits. If you want a bit of a blurrier background then go for the 105mm. If you want to be nearer to your subject and have a closer working distance so it might be easier to communicate, then the 85mm is better.

Nikon 85 1.4 G lens vs Nikon 105 1.4 ED lens body to use Nikon D780 which is better than buying wedding photography and fashion photography

You can't go wrong with either one. The 85mm is smaller and lighter so that can make a difference when you have a long day of photography at a wedding.

Would you need the 105mm if you have the 85mm? I'm just trying to understand and figure out if I need the 105mm and if it would make a big difference in my photography business. Thanks for your feedback in advance.

In my opinion, if you have the 85mm, then the 105mm won't make that much of a difference in your photography business.
You could try renting one and see if it gives you more than you get with the 85mm.
The 85mm is a lot smaller and lighter and easier to carry around.

Both lenses are great for the D850. The 105mm will give you more blur when your subject is the same size like this example: th-cam.com/video/yUBU_FWZxc4/w-d-xo.html

However, the 85mm is smaller and lighter and easier to carry around: th-cam.com/video/yUBU_FWZxc4/w-d-xo.html
