  • Since the moment it was announced, we've been asked to review the Fiesta ST. In fact, a loyal viewer even offered up his car to go against the Fiat 500 Abarth in this comparison of affordable Tiny Turbos. Is this the best $25,000 car?

    I saw this video when it first came out and got a 2014 ST, that smile on his face as he comes out of that turn is me everyday, I’m on a Stage 2 with a Pro-Tune Cobb Access port, rear motor mount, short shifter, 3” MBRP exhaust and sticky Michelin pilot sport tires, it has 76,000+ miles on it and it runs so strong, I embarrass a lot of people with it, and the main thing is there’s not a lot of them around witch makes it unique, I’m 72 years young and have had many cars & motorcycles, this is the most fun I’ve ever had driving, it will become an icon car in 20 years. The Fiesta Flash 🤙🏼🍺

      @@myplaxismodelisbetterthanyours You are correct. Car prices are crazy right now. I bought my '17 new, and I can sell it for at least what I paid for it 5 years later. The problem is, I love it so much, the only car I'd replace it with would be another FiST.
      A used '18 with 28,000 for 21k is still a performance bargain. Especially now.

    The only known side effect for the ST is possibly the cost of plastic surgery to get the permanent grin removed from your face...

    Just picked one up tonight. Traded in my 2007 Mustang GT and I can't believe how much fun the Fiesta is! Don't think I'll be missing the old GT anytime soon. Thanks for the great review guys, it absolutely helped my choice on a new car!... Or maybe it has something to do with all the times you've suggested it to others on your podcast ;-)

    • @MrNeonHunter
      @MrNeonHunter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +buildmorefarms100 So far so good... Besides oil changes and tire rotations, I had a fog light lens pop after getting splashed from a passing car in a storm. The dealer wouldn't replace it under warranty and I had to eat the cost ($57 after much arguing). I also replaced the exhaust with a full stainless 3 inch setup from MBRP. Overall it's been a great car.

    I own a 2014 Fiesta similar to this one. And I LOVE IT!! This car handles like nothing I've driven before. It hauls ass, and gets decent MPG. It has just enough room for a young guy like me to get daily use out of, has a great interior and exterior.

  • @earlmacmullin4688
    @earlmacmullin4688 9 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    As an ST owner, everything they said is spot on. Too bad they didn't test a model with the Recaro seats. In Canada, we have no choice on seats, and that really is for the better. The Recaro seats are simply amazing, and give the simple interior a real hot point. Love this car!!

    • @FalconXE302
      @FalconXE302 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From another new ST owner... I still can't wipe that silly grin off my face... Here in Australia we have ZERO options, and thankfully the Recaro's are part of the package. We only have the two door, built in Germany.

      @Violins77 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Another Aussie ST owner here. Yep, the grin factor with the FiST is totally off the chart, the way the ST corners and it's ability to oversteer at will makes me think that no-one ever told the FiST it's a FWD...Way too much fun!! :)

    • @FalconXE302
      @FalconXE302 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have no choice of seats in Australia also... Recaro by default. Which means I have not driven one without... bit the more I think of it, I am sure the Recaros help make this package so amazing. I would say well worth the extra cash. Everyone who has hopped in, comments on the seats right away... and always a good comment. The way you can swing this car around a corner, I can only think that without the Recaros, you would be holding onto the steering wheel to stop yourself flying out the window, or into your passengers lap...!!!

    I just bought one because of this review. I already knew the car was special based on internet hype, but this review sent me over the edge. I originally had a Honda Fit Sport with coilovers. Walked into the Ford dealership and saw a '17 Fiesta ST, in black, with sunroof and extras, and said, "I'll walk out of here with that car if you guys work with me." 2 hours later I drove away in my new Fiesta, and oh my god I love this car every day I get to use it. It's my escape; my oasis, from the world! I LOVE THE ROTATION! This car is HILARIOUS on off-ramps!

    Hey EverdayDriver guys, thanks for an excellent review on the FiST. I came across your video a couple of weeks after I purchased my 2016, which btw is black but mine has the black rims too, and you guys validated everything I've experienced in driving it! Next month I'll have it a year and STILL I enjoy getting in it and taking it out, whether commuting to work or getting groceries, and occasionally just drive it because well...it's just so damn fun to drive! Talk about instilling driving confidence when you take it farther and farther in it. I call it the Black Falcon, like the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Love taking twisty on-ramps onto the highway. It wasn't until I went to the ST Octane Academy that I knew how awesome this car truly is! During the lead-follow, I found it easier in the FiST to follow the lead instructor car than in the FoST because of the handling in the curves. I thought I was doing great and really pushing the car but nope! Not at all. I got to ride in passenger seat in the hot lap with the instructors and WOW!! So...if you're thinking about getting it? Then go for it! And when you do get it, you may find yourself taking one more look at it after parking it before heading inside. :)

    Well they nailed that one. All the hype is legit as I have been enjoying the hell out of my Fiesta ST for 2 years now and it continuously makes me smile. It's even fun running up to 7/11 for milk, wherever your going it makes you want to drive it. And I have this high of praise for it even as it shared the garage with a Boss 302 and now a C7 Vette. Two years on and I could not be more stoked on this car.

    Great video, guys. I cross-shopped the two (as well as the FRS) and went with the Fiesta ST. It has so much more grunt than the FRS (+50FT/LB of TQ). It is also so much more practical. I got mine with nav, Recaros and sunroof for $24k OTD. I couldn't be happier. She is my DD as well as my canyon/track car. Cars I wouldn't have given a second look to in the past are suddenly getting a lot more (or less!) respect from me.
    In terms of suggestions, how about doing something completely different? For example, how about reviewing crossovers against each other? Something like a Chevy Traverse vs. a Ford Escape?
    I realize how out-there that seems, but some of us have to do the whole "pick a minivan or a crossover" thing. And with crossovers getting *really* good, I think they just might have a thing or two for the enthusiast driver.

    I love both of these cars. I've a friend with the Abarth, and I own a Fiesta ST. I cross-shopped it against a Toyobaru, and while I absolutely love the Toyobaru, it doesn't work as an only car. As a daily driver, the Fiesta ST just nails it. Cheap to buy, cheap to gas up, cheap to own, and like you guys said, it absolutely attacks every corner with competency and enthusiasm. Yes, it's cheap inside, kind of, but that keeps the car light. It has almost the chintziest door pulls in the whole world...but you know what? I just got my fiesta ST. it is my first new car, first turbo, first car driven above 115 hp, but so far it is awesome! I am used to driving a 2012 honda fit MT. the thing i love most about the fiesta ST is revving in 2nd gear or downshifting from 6th to 4th at 55 mph (highway passing), the car hits 80 very quickly. The car also floats effortlessly through turns. Compared with the honda fit, it is a lot more responsive especially when it is already working hard.

    @Motoplugg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    wow, I'm watching this a month after purchasing my 2016 Kona blue Fiesta ST and I can 100% confirm that this car is amazing. I owned a 2016 v6 mustang before this and I loved that car also but I am in college and could not justify paying $800-$1000 for tires and the horrendous gas mileage which is what ultimately made me look into buying a different car. I had been looking at cars for months but I kept running into the same problems, every sports car that I looked at was more expensive than the mustang yet they were a lot slower and had half of the features that my mustang did, this pushed me to look at focus sts. so I began searching for a good priced focus st with all the creature comforts I wanted (leather seats, touchscreen, nav, and sunroof), I quickly realized that there aren't many st2s or st3s on the market for a good price, after this, I kind of gave up on selling my mustang and getting a new car for a few months. About 2 months later I began my search again, I ended up coming across the Fiesta ST and I cannot believe that I hadn't learned about the Fiesta ST sooner, they're like fords hidden weapon. The Fiesta St was the only car that had everything I wanted for a good price. needless to say, I love driving this car, the driving experience is amazing, and I'm so glad I chose this vehicle.

    I have the 2013 Fiat Abarth, and I have to say it is a hoot to drive. The thing about the Abarth is, if you want attention, this car gets it in gobs. Every time I gas up, someone asks what it is...they have no idea what that scorpio logo is! And that exhaust note...EVERYONE turns their heads when you start it up and get on it. I bought the base unit for 23K and you cannot beat it. Add 750 to buy the Magneti Marelli aftermarket ECU tuner (another Fiat company) and now you have 190HP. Wow, talk about relentless turbo power. The engine has forged parts and is over built. The top line aftermarket kits hit 240HP, but honestly....that would scare the hell out of me!

    I drove both and bought the Tuxedo Black Fiesta ST, much like the one you drove in the video, however I got the Recaro seats (a must) and painted rims/brake calipers.
    Not only is the Fiesta ST more fun to drive but it's value is overwhelming. My previous car was a 2003 Mazda Miata LS. Miata's have long had the reputation of being the most affordable sports car.
    So when I found the Fiesta ST I felt right at home. It's weird to compare a tiny convertible with a sub compact but they drive and handle so similarly. I've been incredibly happy with it.

    For 25 grand I'd be hard pressed to buy the Abarth or the Fiesta ST vs a second hand STi or Evolution, but if buying new is my only option, hands down I would absolutely buy the ST. I'm a four door hatchback lover, and this car just ticks all the right boxes for me. The BRZ is a great car too, but look at the practicality! Nothing beats a great Canyon car that can also hold a few friends and some luggage. In my opinion of course :-)

    • @AnontheGOAT
      @AnontheGOAT 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      But these are hot hatches. You can get many other second hand cars for 25k that are way faster and better at driving than those two. I could get a 335i or S4 for that amount.

    • @nexorabolis
      @nexorabolis 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      onishchuk4 that's what I meant :-) it's hard to take your 25k and pass (335i being a great example too) a few fantastic used cars for a brand new Fiesta ST, no matter how great it is, for the same price I can get.. Well, "more" from the used market. But say you just want something new and with a warranty, this car is fantastic for the price :-)

    • @AnontheGOAT
      @AnontheGOAT 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but who gets these cars at base price? Or most any car? They get you with a low price, but strip most everything good out of them. Granted this isn't across all mfg's but its pretty common with low and high end vehicles.

      @AnontheGOAT 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that one is the exception, but even then its a Fiesta, which is an econo-box city car from the get go. I just don't think it should cost anything over $20k.

    I drove both the FR-S and the Fiesta ST and I have to say the FR-S felt ok but it was not impressive for all the HYPE. Now the Fiesta ST is amazingly fun to drive whole lot of smiles per miles. I had not felt this young and excited as when I was a teenager driving my 1980 corolla with a 1.8 motor built into high performance 2.0 liter naturally aspirated engine with racing Isky cam and 44mm dual side mikkuni carbs, headers and bronze clutch it gave me the same driving feeling. I am not a Ford fan but after driving the Fiesta ST and The Focus St I would not hesitate to buy either one so much fun to drive.

    Great detailed impressions guys, the video was well worth the wait! Wow, you both agreed and rated it 4/4, that certainly doesn't happen very often, ha. Regarding the brz comparison, I'm in this exact dilemma right now. As a daily driver I think the Fiesta ST is the better choice, simply because it's more practical, has so much torque and doesn't feel like a fwd car. But I absolutely love the looks of the brz, the seating position, steering feel and most importantly, the handling balance. The engine for me just isn't just as usable in the real world, with low trq and it needing high revs to reach the power band. The brz is car the makes me question, 'can I live with it day in day out for several years?' Anyway, excellent work as usual, keep it up and those subscriptions will eventually add up, you certainly deserve waaaay more!

      Without knowing you or your circumstances I can only tell you mine. I test drove the FRS the other day. It has a sort of rawness, and mechanicality (if you can say it) which makes you feel that you're part of the driving equation. Whereas the Fiesta ST (I have a Focus ST) does seem to isolate you more. Some would call it refinement, some would call it a disconnection. For me, I liked the having a dead quiet ride and tightness in the cabin which the Fiesta/Focus ST provides, plus having all the gadgetry around. And also knowing that you can push it without it complaining. I'm honestly not a big fan of the FRS/BRS interior, layout, and constant whine of the transmission. Maybe I'm too old for that now with a wife and two kids! LOL! Maybe in my younger years I would have been a fan (previous RSX Type-S owner), but not anymore.

      ***** Hi Andrew, yes, I loved the BRZ but the Fiesta ST and the 240 lbs of trq in such a light car won my over. It's just so fun to drive in a straight line and in the turns, the brz for me anyway, wasn't fun in straight line driving and didn't give me the pull I get in the Fiesta, something I'm addicted to now lol

    I have a 2015 fiesta st and I love it. I’ve had it for about a year now and everything they say about this car is true. The engine has tons of torque as well as in 6th gear you can cruise on the highway going 80-90 in 3,000 rpm. The build quality on the inside isn’t perfect and I hate the sync 2 system, But that’s not what this car special. You get it for the engine which was used in tons of rally’s in stock form. That’s how you know it’ll last I feel. Not only that there’s tons of aftermarket parts and everyone in the community is super cool. This was a car I bought without even knowing how to drive manual. I have learned so much and if you have the opportunity I would say at least test drive one. Fist gang all here 💪🏻

    i have driven both cars, and i have to be honest - i was completely blown-away and smitten with the fiesta st. wow. it was a fabulous car, even if it isn't the "fastest" car around it had an unrelenting fun-factor. a little extra practicality over the abarth, and it would be my choice. none of that is to say the abarth is a bad car - far from it, in fact. it's also fun to drive, but the dynamics were just a little soft in some ways (especially compared to the fiesta st). what the abarth has in abundance is character, while the fiesta st doesn't have the same character. you will get noticed in the abarth, and be invisible in the fiesta st. but, the fiesta would still be my choice here. thanks for the reviews, guys! love your work!

    The Fiesta ST is the worlds best 1.6 turbo hot hatch in the world, it beat its biggest rival the VW Polo GTi,Renault Clio RS,Peugot 208 GTi,Mini Cooper S,Chevy Sonic SS,Abarth 500
    Another point for ST and against Subaru BRZ/GT 86/FRS is that TRACTION, sure the RWD fun is impressive but in the wet the RWD sucks specially in BRZ/gt 86/FR S , whereas the Fiesta ST has kind of unbelievable balance between traction and drift
    Also many popular magazines have voted Fiesta ST a better car than a 90s BMW e36, what more compliment do you need to pick a Fiesta over any budget sports car below 25000$
    Another great thing about ST is refinement, actually its solidly built like a tank, great in cabin insulation below 70 mph,super cool Sony Audio position,good boot,and if driven like a gentle man it gives around 41 mpg as well
    In my mind ST has only 1 -ve side just 1, the ride is pretty harsh over broken roads and since its a sports car its forgiven, Ford is truly the worlds best FWD car manufacturer, there maybe faster cars than ST but nothing can come close to the FEEL and FUN ST gives, Ford Go further.

    For the price, the abarth seems like the better deal. My reasons:
    1. Consensus says these are going for a good bit below msrp.
    2. Aesthetics. The abarth does well to distinguish itself from the other trim levels/models in fiat's lineup, doing such in a manner that is very pleasing to the eye. Where as the fiesta does little more to distinguish itself from the other trim levels beyond a huge grill in the front.
    3. Ease of parking. Not everyone with either of these cars is going to live in a metropolitan area, but the ones who live in one will be thankful of the accessibility offered of the smaller package the abarth offers.
    4. Aftermarket support/customization options.
    The abarth (the fiat brand overall) has just as much aftermarket support and customization opportunities as the fiesta st, if not more.
    That being said, The fiesta st is still a very viable option for me, but dollar for dollar, abarth seems to fit my criteria. That's not to take away from the st's prowess, just lacks the personality I want in a vehicle and seems too utilitarian for me.

      My wife has the fiat, (maintenance problems)... there is a reason it looks good, sounds good, drives pretty good and is selling under msrp. That said, even though she doesn't trust it... she still loves it. As a chick car, its fine I guess. I'll stick with my 15 WRX. That said I was very impressed with both the focus and the fiesta ST models.

    My friend (who is a huge Honda-fan) brought a 2014 Honda Civic Si Coupe not too long ago. I was painfully crying on the inside on why he didn't look at the 'Fast Fords" before making his purchase.
    If I had $30k laying somewhere for a fun yet practical car, either a lightly used Focus ST or a new Fiesta ST would definitely be on the list.
    I agree with Paul that the Fiesta ST is actually preferable to a BR-Z or FR-S simply on the account of 4 doors and a large trunk. Sure it isn't RWD but in Canada where it snows every half a year, FWD makes for a less scary experience than RWD even wearing winter tires.

    I rented the Fiesta for a 3 day weekend that included a long drive from SF to LA. At 6' 6" with a 48 inseam, the fit wasn't so bad...
    Except for the actual drive. My knees don't clear the steering column, so my feet have to twist and shimmy a but to the right to connect to the accelerator. The rest of my leg continually rubs against the center console. Cruise control was a big relief.
    For daily commuting, it's bearable. But I will be testing out other models like the Focus or Fusion.

    10:50 That's actually because the Fiesta ST is massively underrated from the factory, look up edmunds dyno of it. It makes over 200 lb-ft of torque at the wheels! And about 190 WHP, at track days these things walk BRZs, it's crazy.

    Both cars I was looking at few months ago. I almost bought the abarth but instead I got a brand new wrx hatch for 27.5k 2k more then the other 2 but well worth it. Still both those cars are awesome

    EverydayDriver awesome review guys! Since my Veloster has 40k miles after one year of ownership, and my vehicle allowance has increased vs last year, I think its time to head to the Ford dealer.

    I drove the fiesta. I didn't ring it out or do crazy driving. I drive it normally as I would say to day. I hated it... I couldn't get past the plastic/rubber on the day with the weird patterning... It seemed very unfit driving in City traffic and stuff. The Abarth, fin start up had me smiling. That song whenever you start it. And it seemed to be okay feeling in traffic and when things open up. A five minute rest drive and I knew I wanted it. So I bought it.
