  • Looking for some of the best things to do in Hue, Vietnam? Look no further than Hue's Imperial City. Aside from being known for food, the Imperial City stood as the capital of Vietnam for many years, including as recent as the 1950s, before the final emperor of the Nguyen dynasty abdicated the throne and the capital moved to Hanoi.
The Imperial City (also known as the Imperial Citadel) is an incredible place to visit, and was largely destroyed during the Vietnam war in the 1960s after shelling, but the Imperial Citadel was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the 1990s and has since undergone restoration efforts. We did our best to cover the Imperial City, but it was surprisingly big and very impressive!
Hue proved to be one of - if not our favourite city in Vietnam, and is well worth a visit for anyone looking for an authentic Vietnamese experience. Stay tuned for our next video, where we will be moving to our next destination - an incredibly popular site that has been covered many times over... so we decided to put our own touch to it!

Hi Kim, this was in February 2020 - so masks publicly weren’t common yet. We didn’t do any traveling after lockdowns started in March of 2020
