I watched this with my co-worker Tom, who fought in Hue in 1968 with the Marines. He recognized several places in the video that he remembered clearly, and explained the combat situation. He said the Marines blew holes through walls to advance and stay out of sight from snipers & machine gun fire, because they were told they wouldn't receive artillery or air support, aside from choppers and tanks during the fight, due to the historical significance of the Hue; otherwise it would have been leveled. This was the first time he was able to see Hue since then. He was surprised at how intact it still is, thinking the structures had sustained a lot more damage. He was wounded there. He wanted to see if any present day videos were on here of Hue, saying what a complete waste of time the war was . He liked your narrative. Thanks for sharing your travels.

arkansaswookie Thank you so much for your comments. Please thank Tom for his service to our country-I can't imagine what it must have been like to have fought there.

Andy's Awesome Adventures I will. He had to excuse himself midway through to go out on the deck and compose himself. It brought up some painful memories. I'd known that he was in the Marines and fought in Viet Nam, but didn't know where until now. I never asked him about it, even when we go dirt biking up in the mountains. This was the most he has said, and it was pretty heavy. He brought up the hand to hand combat and how effective the Ka-Bar knife and Colt .45 is in close quarters and swinging an M16 like a baseball bat. I doubt we will ever talk about it again. Safe travels to you. Cheers.

Vietnamese culture and people are similar to other East Asian countries. China has robbed most of the territory and assimilated most of the "ancient Bach Viet" tribes. The only tribe that conquered China for thousands of years was Lac Viet (Vietnam), which migrated and expanded its territory southward. So even though Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia, they are East Asians like Singapore. Vietnamese culture has not been widely promoted because the economy has been devastated by the war for thousands of years. Vietnam's entertainment industry is not invested as strongly as China, Japan, and Korea, so the world does not know Vietnam.

I may say the Nguyen dynastic genealogy was seen on my computer cellphone. The Nguyen dynasty was done in and I am sorry for the unpleasant words to the uncut Nguyen crown and I hope the Nguyen dynasty love his Portuguese accent last name.

Shows a very big pot. Those were used to execute people for serious crimes by boiling them alive. You should have asked what they were used for, I did.
Beautiful Pine forests close to the burial tomb of the king. You take the boat tour up the river climb a little hill then jump on a moto for a drive through the forest. Human sized chess board but none allowed to be taller than the king lol.
