  • The imposing citadel of Hue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the city's most important sights. This massive fortress, surrounded by imposing walls and moats, was once the political and cultural center of Vietnam during the Nguyen dynasty. It is home to a variety of palaces, temples and royal buildings that reflect Vietnam's great history. At the heart of the citadel lies the majestic Imperial City, a place of great historical significance. Emperors once resided here and the magnificent palaces bear witness to the splendor of the Nguyen dynasty. The carefully designed temples and courtyards offer an insight into 19th century Vietnamese architecture and culture.

The imperial city of Hue, a walled fortress and palace of the ancient Nguyen dynasty, which was the capital for 140 years, is a great place to explore. Which royal or imperial palace or castle is your personal favorite? Let me know in the comments!

This is one of the palaces of the Nguyen Dynasty kings of Vietnam, it was destroyed by the wars by the French and Americans 😌

you have very kind and gracious words for this site of Hue. But "Nguyen Dynasty" and "splendor" should never be in the same sentence. To virtually all Vietnamese, the Nguyen Dynasty is one of a few worst dynasties in Vietnam history, and was responsible for the ignominious and second longest foreign domination of Vietnam in its history. Most, except for an enclave of people of Hue who are still loyal to the Nguyen, the rest of the country despises this dynasty. This is just FYI, not a criticism of your video, which is very nice. 👏👍

The place is quite huge but not as big as Beijing Imperial City.

It used to have about many buildings but most were destroyed by the war. Only a handful of buildings left. Without war destruction, I think it is much bigger and more grandeur.

According to the Cambridge History of China Vol 7, the Chinese Forbidden City was built by Nguyen An. A Vietnamese subject sent as tributary to the Ming dynasty

@@ben_castle no. no way as big. China is a much bigger, more populous country than Vietnam, so naturally, everything in China tends to be much bigger

Why is it so run down ? Because of bombings during the Vietnam war ?

Yes, that's right. During the Battle of Hue the US forces carried out targeted bombing raids against the Citadel and the Northern Vietnam forces positioned there.
