One can plot all the neural correlates of a brain experience, but phenomenological insight (what it is like to feel the thing) is necessary to explain the qualitative feeling that corresponds to the correlates

Love this! I hear so many young people saying "the universe" led me, I am giving this to the Universe, what does the Universe have for me, etc. Sounds like God to me. I love Joseph Campbell's quote, "God is a metaphor for a mystery that absolutely transcends all human categories of thought."

Thank you Forrest! We have talked about This subject multiple times. It’s something I’ve struggled with since I started following your teachings some years ago. Yes I did love this Forrest. You have such a fabulous way of explaining things and make life so simple. The word "God" seems to carry such a weight to it. If I use the terms "Creator" or "Higher Power" it seems to soften conversations and allow for more acceptance. You have taken the mystery out of meditation and for me that is so big. Thank you so much.

Super nuanced topic, eh? I really like the way Joseph Campbell approached it when saying that our mythic terms should be transparent to transcendence, meaning no word can define an ultimate and perennial reality because it is beyond all concepts and categories of thinking. He quoted Meister Eckhart, which suggested we should let go of any preconceived notion of God to go to God. I love the quotes you used in this videos, btw. Thanks for sharing, Forrest. Blessings and blissings!

Ohhhhhh goodness my guruji!!!! this is an excellent and needed reconciliation for many people i am sure. i have learned so much from you teaching the scientific way, as i had been perhaps the opposite of many scientific atheists, where i considered that science wouldn't be able to truly figure anything out, but i have seen that there isn't just one way to science haha. so there is for me the manifestation these bodies but not as bodies and so it has been hard to accept that anything about the brain could truly explain my conscious experience of the all-pervasive divine. but i have learned that within the manifestation there is indeed a science which can be utilized to throw us into this perception of the all-pervasive divine and that is certainly just fantastic. for me it isn't about the material brain, because for me it isn't such a thing as this, but there is the appearance as a result of the divine consciousness playing, and from the "outside" this localization of the divine consciousness looks like a brain. so it all works and it is all very good. but it certainly isn't "just the brain" for me even with this because it implies the brain has a separate and solid material existence which i simply cannot see to hold water from direct experience, so for me it's all the divine, even this appearance of a brain is simply a result of the divine play. i am only speaking all of my experience like this to show how much i have matured in this regard, because for two years straight I'd completely deny even the existence of a brain! hahaha, but now i know there slightly more depth but it still fits within the same experiential framework that I've gathered and that is excellent.

But after the prayers which my guru/meditation teacher did for me😂🙏❤,my life and meditation slowly improved, i became a devotee of divine mother. Though even now sometimes the path of spirituality feels painful and full of failures, but still i trust the kriya yoga gurus and divine. I hope I will be a kriya yogi one day. Hey Forrest, I’ve noticed that when I enter deep states of mediation, whether I’m chanting a mantra or just breathing silently, I tilt my head to the right, idk why this is but for me to enter deep states of meditation, my head needs to tilt a little bit to the right, is this something you’ve heard of before?

I just checked out Todd Murphy on your advice and watched one of his presentations about enlightenment and the brain. On the face of it it’s easy to say oh, all spiritual states are just a brain phenomena after all. But then something didn’t sit well with me and I realized it’s like talking to someone on FaceTime and saying it’s just a phone phenomenon or looking at pictures on a computer and chalk the pictures up to the computer generating images. there is a programmer, there is a real person on the other side. God just built mechanisms into our brain, just like he built mechanisms in all of nature, so that we can reach him directly. And your video confirms that as well so thank you!

Because by ourselves we will have a very hard time to accomplish anything, but when we reach up and ask for assistance we can find great help to get back on track. Also when you think that you have Bad Karma please go ahead and OM into it in your chakras. This will help to wipe it out. 🤗🌹🙏🌹

from my understanding, it's not that there is nothing. it's that the entire whole is nonseparate. there is no single thing that arises in our awareness that is permanently isolated and non-changing.
that awareness itself is the nonchanging thing. but that awareness is "empty" inherently, in that any content can arise in it, any experience can arise in it.
