If 'Indiana Jones' is a love-letter to people who love old high-adventure serials, 'The Mummy' is the proposal, wedding, and honeymoon all in one.

Kristen made an excellent point about this movie and how the characters are so perfect for this film: A rogueish adventurer, a timid but beautiful British scholar, her braggadocious thief brother, and a proud warrior all doing battle against the ultimate evil. It's an epic film that continues to age beautifully.

To us 90’s kids The Mummy was like our Indiana Jones. And the spin-off cartoon on Kids WB was just as amazing.
Also Rachel Weisz as Evie was one of my first crushes ever. Seriously, the scene of when she shows up in the black Egyptian clothing with the veil still takes my breath away😍😍. And the fact that she is a bookish nerd who becomes a badass bookish nerd in the next movie is why she is one of my favorite female protagonists.

My favorite behind-the-scenes story about this movie -- Oded Fehr (the handsome Magi) was originally going to have much larger facial tattoos. When the director met him and saw how handsome he is, and because he's such a pleasure to work with, they decided to reduce the size of the tats so more of his face could be seen. Good call, IMHO.

Fun fact: During the opening shootout introducing Rick, he loads his rifle after each shot to keep "rapid-fire" topped off for dire situations. Because the Lebel 1886 features a magazine cutoff that allows soldiers to hold rounds "in reserve."
Also, in regards to Rick's hanging.... yes. Brendan Fraser legit did the stunt. But something went wrong, and he was nearly killed but managed to be given CPR in time and made a full recovery. The director of this movie did the live action 1994 Jungle Book movie, which heavily inspired Disney's 1999 animated Tarzan, ironically release the same year as this movie. And Fraser was actually offer the role to voice the Disney animated version of Tarzan, but got turned down for Tony Goldwyn (Ghost). And Rachel Weisz had got some inspiration from the character Jane to play Evelyn. And I can totally see the similarities in both movies.

Wrong. That's an urban legend that Brendan has perpetuated for sympathy. Simon Crane, the stunt coordinator took the drop. Brendan (Drama Queen that he is) tightened the noose and stood on his tip toes and fainted. He tells people in bars that the scar on his neck is from The Mummy, it's from thyroid surgery in 2012. The only back injury he had was also in 2012. Google Hurricane Sandy 2012 and his name. He was drunk. Again. That's how he lost out on Journey 2. He refused to go to rehab. That, and the restraining order from Josh Hutcherson's parents.

He could have been awake for decades or maybe hundreds of years in darkness before finally rotting enough to sleep.

The Medjai REALLY wanted him to suffer, so they sentenced him to the worst punishment they could give him. The Hom Dai was meant to be eternal damnation. Nothing but darkness and endless suffering as the scarab beetles continuously fed on him from the inside out. The Medjai knew of the consequences, but were willing to risk said consequences if it meant giving Imhotep the ultimate punishment. Remember, he was never suppose to be found, hence why the descendants of the Medjai guarded his tomb in Hamunaptra for thousands of years.

There are two sequels *The Mummy Returns (2001)* and *The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).* Although the third movie features a major recast. Definitely watch the next sequel, at the very least. Maybe consider the third movie as well.
The Mummy Returns also had a spin-off called *The Scorpion King (2002)* which eventually evolved into its own film franchise, spawning four sequels of varying quality.
The reboot movie *The Mummy (2017)* also features a call back to these films, effectively making it a follow up, rather than a true reboot.
And, of course, these films are based on the original franchise, which began with *The Mummy (1932)* which had four (or five) sequels, depending on whether you count the final entry as a true sequel or not.

I think a lot of times with powerful curses, there's usually an equal form of a major drawback to it. Makes sense because of the powerfulness of the curse, it's probably done to make sure that it's not used all willy nilly or taked lightly. In the beginning, they said that particular curse had never been done before, but murdering a Pharoah was most likely believed to be a massive enough of an offense for it to be implemented. You curse someone with something like that, then I guess you better that you make sure it holds (hence the magi)...
