    Great technique for getting the right sight tape for sure. Establishing the gap between 20 and 60 is great. Unfortunately the transition from that step to alignment of the 40 yard definitely hit the point of “confusing”. Got into trouble then. 😢

      Hey Donovan... Sorry i missed this comment. I do actually hear that sometimes, but the key is to remember that setting up your sight tape is not correlated to the fixed pins. It makes no sense, but they are separate, so the best advice i can give is to not think about it.. just follow the instructions. Feel free to call us anytime with questions! -rob

      @@THEHUNTJOURNALyour 40 yard pin (floater) will be sighted in at 40, so once you establish your 40 yard fixed with the pointer on 40 yard mark on the site tap it will take over when you adjust your elevation knob whether shorter or longer distance. I have a question about this sight that I’ve not found an answer in the comments to yet but hopefully I can make this clear. Does your third pin that you use for the floater move by itself or does the whole sight housing move so if the bottom pin is set to 40 and you adjust it to 50 does the top two pins stay at 20 and 30 or does the second pin move to 40 and the first moves to 30 hopefully I was able to explain that good enough. Thank You!

    just clarification towards end of video set up on 3 pin sight. You manually set your 30 & 40 yd pins. I am assuming before you do that you dail your sight tape to 30 or 40 yds pins asnd then manually adjust? That part was not clear- where is the sight tape when you do the 30 and 40 yard pins? Set at the 20 default or set at 30 and 40?

    • @SandSArchery
      @SandSArchery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Dial stays in its default position. The dial and pins have no relationship unless you are dialing in a yardage for your floater. With the dial in its default position, move the pins individually to sight in their yardages.

  • @corysepter1407

    So after you get ur marks and find ur tape do you move the dial to 40 before you stick it

    • @patcoyable
      @patcoyable 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It shouldn't matter, as long as the indicator is on the same mark on the sight as the paper. In other words, if you shoot to 40, you make a mark on the sight at the indicator, then put the tape on so the number 40 is at the indicator. This works for any of the distances

    • @SandSArchery
      @SandSArchery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You bet. The only limitation to your max range is your fletchings hitting the housing. If you setup your default position the way we recommend with the pistol and tape bar flush, then you should be able to dial in a range from 20ish to 80+ yards.

  • @mansalaija
    @mansalaija 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi, nice video but I am a little confused. Why put the 40 yard mark on the sight tape next to needle indicator which is currently sitting at 20? if you do this, the needle indicator is set at 20 but the sight tape is showing 40. Shouldn't you be putting the 20 yard mark on the sight tape next to the needle indicator which is at 20?

    • @SandSArchery
      @SandSArchery  หลายเดือนก่อน

      only if you are using your 20 pin as the floater. Most will use their 3rd pin or 40 yard pin as the floater.

    Great video! Thank you. Just curious with this set up and setting your floater at 40 how far out can you adjust your floating pin? 80 ?

    • @SandSArchery
      @SandSArchery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      that really depends on your draw weight, and more importantly your peep height in relation to your nock. But most should be able to get out to 80-100 provided your floater pin is near the bottom of the housing.

    What if i wanted to use the top pin as the floater pin? Where should the default position of sight be? And how far out would you be able to shoot out to then?

    • @SandSArchery
      @SandSArchery  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We suggest running your default position all the way at the top if your planning on using your top pin as the floater instead of running it flush. You should have a lot of adjustment on the sight tape as running it flush. You might have clearance issues with the bottom of the scope and your arrow however. Kind of a trial and error until you figure out whats the best setup for you.

  • @Matt-Fishbeck
    @Matt-Fishbeck 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What if we do not do it the way you had the slider flush and decide to have the default position at the very top. Then our floater will have to be the top pin?

    • @SandSArchery
      @SandSArchery  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, you can still use what ever pin you want for the floater. You will be limited to dialing a distance PAST the yardage of your floater pin. So if you want to use your 20 pin as your floater, you'll be able to dial any yardage past 20 yards, but your max yardage will be much closer.. probably a max of 60 depending on your setup. Or if you decide to make your 60 yard pin the floater with the default position at the top, you won't be able to dial yardages closer than 60 yards, but you will be able to shoot out farther distances. HOWEVER, hitting your sight housing with the arrow fletchings is what limits the top end. So we recommend using the bottom pin as your floater and setting the tops flush. That way you can dial any distance from 20 yards out past 100 with your bottom pin as the floater.

  • @perrysamson4021
    @perrysamson4021 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So if you raise it all the way up and set your pins 20,30,40. Then match your tape to your two marker points (20&40) you can dial down to whatever you want and use you 20 pin for whatever yardage it’s on and your 40 pin to whatever ever yardage it’s on ?

    I am more confused now than I was before. What I did with my five pin was sighted in 20 through 60 and then my 60 pin is my floater.. so my site tape starts at 60 and goes down to 100.
    Did I technically do the same thing as you just my 60 is a set pin and 20 through 50 can be moved freely?

    • @SandSArchery
      @SandSArchery  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sounds like your default position has the housing maxed out at the top. Nothing wrong with that, but it does limit your dialed shots to 60 yards and over.

    • @SandSArchery
      @SandSArchery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not exactly. When you place the tape on the sight, make sure the pointer is pointing at the yardage of your slider pin. Typically that is your bottom pin, so if your bottom pins is 40 yards, have the pointer pointing at 40, if its 60 yards, have the pointer pointing at 60. Then sight in the remaining pins as usual. Simply because you can also move the pointer on the tape. Choosing the sight tape is really just about arrow drop and is a separate process from setting up your pins. Just move the pointer on the tape to match the yardage of the pin you are using as the floater when the sight is in its default position.

      If your floater is your bottom pin, say 60 yards, with the sight tape bar flush as the default position you can dial any yardage from about 25 yards out past 100 using the bottom floater pin. If you want to set your top pin as your floater and make the default position the very top of the dial, you will be able to dial from 20 yards and up, but the top end range will be VERY limited.. probably around 60 yards because you will start hitting your fletchings sooner. Hope that makes sense.

      Ever stop to wonder if maybe a first time bow shooter is looking to setup their bow for the first time? Maybe they are brand new to archery and just bought a bow and sight. Maybe they aren't sure how to set one up and wanted to watch this video? How about you stop talking down to everyone from your high throne of knowledge and try to understand some people are just starting out in archery. Maybe try and help first time bow shooters out at the range with their sights instead of treating them like inferior human beings. We all had to start somewhere. People with attitudes like yours are only a detriment to the sport of archery. Help the young kids or new shooters learn the ropes instead of being a know it all dick in the TH-cam comments.

      @@stephenh6438 well you make an excellent point. There are people that have little to no mechanical aptitude and would have a difficult time. There is multiple videos on setting up equipment. But my point still stands- if one can’t get this done do they need to be trying to kill an animal?

      @stephenh6438 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Tim Gruver Some people may struggle with the concept, and others may understand immediately. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be denied the chance to hunt. What if buddy has a hard time adjusting his sight but is naturally excellent at tracking animal sign? Is he less qualified than the guy who dialed in his sight first time but walks through a bedding area without having a clue what it is? Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses in archery. Your job as a "pro" is to help foster the abilities of the people who aren't as good as you yet. That frustrated kid at the range who can't dial his sight in may toss the bow in his closet and never touch it again because he can't get it right. If you helped him and explained it, he may end up being better than you one day. Most professionals didn't get there without the struggle or the practice we all face. Don't be so quick to write people off. My point still stands.....give people a chance or a helping hand if they can't get it.
