So beautiful! And I gave a very loud “YES!” when you were talking about normalizing normal gardens. I see way too many new gardeners who beat themselves up because their gardens aren’t flawless, when 99% of the time the gardens they’re comparing their own to have paid gardeners on staff.

Absolutely! Gardens and gardening is a joy - not pressure

      I agree!
And how about when they freak out bcuz they see one or two pest bugs in their garden!
They instantly break out the insecticide! Yikes!!!
I always let nature take it's coarse. Most of the time those non-beneficial bugs get run out of my garden by the beneficials! I just take pictures of them and walk away!
Those non-beneficial bugs make good photo opps anyway bcuz they usually are looking so menacing!!

I so appreciate you saying that we should normalize the idea that our gardens are not perfect, because they're not. We can be so hard on ourselves sometimes when looking at others' gardens. We need to use them as inspiration and not as a comparison of what we've accomplished in our own gardens.😊🌷🌹

Yulia, always love your videos. Venus dogwood is amazing! As is the climbing hydrangea -I have planted one on a cedar we had that died-we left a 20 foot stem (stump?) and my dream is that the hydrangea will cover it-hopefully in my lifetime? I have bowl of beauty-very similar to yours but mine is white and pink rather than all one colour. Growing Cleome for the first time this year too because of your influence-hope the deer are on board with this experiment :)

Your garden looks super great, weeds and all! I, too, have the same rhododendron. I've been so disappointed since I bought it as it's been struggling for last few years and I now realize it needs acidic soil (probably learned that from watching your very informative videos) so I put some peat and it's the first year (other than when first purchased) that it has bloomed and that new foliage is growing! Thanks Yuliya!

    • @ydoyougarden
      @ydoyougarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Aww! that's wonderful. Just make sure you keep doing it because if you have normally alkaline soil you need to amend and check for soil ph.

@@ydoyougarden thanks Yuliya, I wanted to take it out this year and put something more native but my husband didn't want to give up on it. I'll see how it goes. I have the same problem with blueberries we planted, they haven't put on much growth for years, thinking better in containers where I can put the right soil. I've learned so much from your videos and get such inspiration, really grateful, thank you!!! 🙏✌️💚

The May garden is lovely. I've been moving plants this spring, my Gabriel's trumpets (yellow and the other a white) have taken over the spaces they were in. Then I ran across a pink variety and brought that home to plant. If you have a garden you have weeds. lol

Always love seeing your garden. Is that Pachysandra behind the Viola's.? My mom had that planted for a ground cover at the house I grew up in. I recently planted some myself, ironically at her place I inherited yrs ago on Maryland's eastern shore. I love it, grows like a weed and fills in fast, no mowing between the house and sidewalk, just love it. Love that Poppy too.!

Peonies are my favorite! Maybe this year I'll try the method of harvesting buds (at "marshmallow" stage) and keep them wrapped in plastic in the fridge to extend the season. My girlfriend did that last year and had blooms in July!
I have ten plants (my favorite is 'Paula Faye' in coral) and they bloom at different times. Just another way to extend the season.
My David Austin BR roses arrived today! I have them soaking overnight in water. I picked up a mature 'Limelight' hydrangea and was able to procure some PW 'Silverberry' supertunia vista. I've been looking everywhere for them. Tonight, I edged my garden with bricks and will fill between the inch gaps with pea gravel. I'm hoping this will keep the mulch from floating over the steel edging and mixing with my crushed rock patio.
I'll be moving shrubs to make way for my new arrivals. Not sure if I can move my enormous delphiniums as they're about to bloom a lovely lavender. I have PW 'Violet Wave' salvia I think will be striking against the pastel color and 'Queen of Sweden' pale pink roses.
Have you ever seen a variegated lilac? Aucubaefolia is the variety. I don't even care if it blooms. That foliage is so interesting.
I may have overdone it buying annuals (is that possible?), but when my tulip foliage dies back I'll pop them in their place. I didn't know about holding off for six weeks after daffodils are done. Good to know. Thanks!
Your rhododendrons are gorgeous! Mine hasn't grown much in size since planting it more than ten years ago. I got 3 or 4 blooms. That's some small feat. Some years, I'm lucky to get one bloom. I haven't fertilized it yet. Maybe I've been killing it with kindness.
Thanks for sharing your gardens, weeds and all. Though I really didn't see any weeds.

Beautiful video! I glad you brought up the point of not having a perfect garden! I see some of my neighbors laboring to out do each other but I just laugh and say what a shame they are not seeing the real beauty and joy! Enjoyed the funnies at the end lol!
