I found your channel through Laura of Garden Answer. Glad I did, I live in Toronto so your climate and plantings fit more to my area than that of Laura's dry climate of Oregon. 🙂

This is awesome. I'm so glad you made a longer video, it's been a while. So gorgeous. And great to see how everything flows and all the details. Personally, I like the shrubs your parents planted and I don't know if there's space but you could always put something a bit taller a little further for balance, especially if you didn't want to trim. But I don't know I love them and always have.

Your neighbors must ADORE you! I could listen to you "talking flowers" all day every day, Yuliya! Your channel is wonderful and so informative.
Yuliya, my mom got her master's degree from Columbia University, too, in 1943. She loved the school and used to share many fun stories with us from her time in NYC. I loved hearing about the shrubs that your parents planted for you in your front yard! Thank you so much for sharing your love for gardening!

The Golden Mops remind me of cousin It. The island looks amazing for just being a yr old, I'm think it was just last yr you put that in. I think if I lived anywhere in the general area of your garden, I'd ride by every week on my way home.

Beautifully prolific garden! Love the Black & Blue Salvia, saw it once, passed it up & wish I hadn't. There are frosted or reflective films that you can put on the windows in the bathroom that will give you privacy, allow light in and allow you to look out without people being able to look in. Or indoor shutters or sheers than can be opened and closed as needed. Plus that high up I don't think anybody would be able to see anything unless they are using a drone which is possible of course, but only shadows! Another suggestion, I would Bonsai the shrubs flanking your steps and plant Korean Spice Viburnums closer the street dotted across to give you the privacy you are looking for. They get pretty big but not so big that the front of your house will not be able to be seen. They look great when you trim the lower branches, and I love the blooms in the spring.

@@ydoyougarden Also Yulia, I grow lots of things under my birch and the secret is tons of compost! Think No dig bed, you build up, because those trees literally EAT the soil away. That and tons of water, I have my sprinklers set up to soak the heck out of that bed so everybody gets what they need. ❤️🌸

Your garden looks so lovely and I love the simplicity of the white border in the front. It puts a finishing touch on the whole front composition.
I think the "trouble spots" under the birches look like a great place for a couple boulders or large rocks. We had a similar challenging spot under a Japanese maple on a slope where root competition and erosion meant nothing would grow. Rocks worked great and visually anchored the other plantings in the bed.

I adore those two beautiful conifer trees either side of your front pathway. They look perfect there and you have so far pruned them just enough so that you can still use the path to get to the front door. I love their soft, weeping shape and it would be a shame to prune them too severely. You are very artistic in the garden,

Heartleaf alexander (Zizia aptera), various violets, Canadian wild ginger (Asarum canadense - might be at the limit of heat it can take in your zone), tiarellas, and white wood asters (Aster divaricatus) seem to be happy there.

I am very much looking forward to the shaping of your parent's 2 plants!
    They are such characters!!!
I don't know if you've named them, but I call them Mom & Dad !!!
I believe they are going to be magnificent after their hair cuts! I look forward to seeing multi-trunked Mom & Dad afterward !!!
I do have 1 video suggestion:
Each time I watch your videos I have to turn the volume up quite a bit.
I know you are soft spoken, however I'm wondering if this has something to do with editing?
After I turn my tv volume up (at least 10 points) so I can hear your voice, the background noises are never too loud.
This tells me it must be the volume of your video that is low.
It's not really a big deal for me to turn the volume up to watch you though! I just thought you might want to know. ♡
Your whole garden looks fantastic! Even the trouble spots are not a big deal to me!
Like you said, it's just a matter of finding the right plants.
I look forward to that journey as well. ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

I had to pull out/kill off my coloclinum after years of thinking I could have "just a little" of it. It is so beautiful, but was too happy in my small garden.

@@SMElder-od5cl was yours planted in full sun by chance? I'm a volunteer gardener for a public garden where it's planted in part shade and grows and blooms happily but hasn't spread much over several years.

Yuliya, in that troublesome spot below the river birches, could you use boulders, bird baths, concrete garden art, and more containers to bypass the problem with the roots? Linda Vater just posted a tour of a neighbor's garden, and their front yard that has a very wide but short bird bath that would look beautiful under that birch. And since pachysandra grows there, what about epimedium?

Yes, I have some ideas. Epimediums do not like as much of dry shade as people think. They actually prefer more moist soils. I love them though and have a few in the garden. 😊🌝

Thank you for sharing your garden, it’s beautiful! We also have river birch tree in our backyard and it was covered with Nandina Domestica or heavenly bamboo with lots of red berries but we decided to dig them all out so we can plant something else. Big mistake nothing will live every thing I planted under the river birch dies! This year I try planting again a rose glow barberry shrubs so far they are living hopefully they will not die.

I love your videos Yulia, you are my favorite gardener 💖 I was thinking that maybe double creeping buttercup would grow under the River Birches. I had a shady area where they took over and I had to pull them off, very aggressive if not contained so maybe could work for you? Still a very beautiful plant and the flowers are adorable. Anyway, beautiful garden!! 😍

Thank you so much! Maybe one day in the winter I will show inside. It's not very impressive though and we have very minimal decor. As I tell my friends I am minimalist indoors and maximalist outdoors 😂😂

Enjoyed this tour so much, thank you. I may have missed it but what is the grass in front of the elephant ears (white plumes)? Love your style and your joy in and love for, the plants💕 I need to start taking notes while watching,, so many things I want to try. I planted feverfew this year, they bloomed non stop and still going, we’ll see how the self seeding goes next year...but I loved them this year.
