I pray for safety with the storm for you, Michael, all your flowers and your beautiful home! Your Fans from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We’ve watched you for years and my husband says ‘oh look Yulia has a new video’! Blessings!
Your Dahlias are stunning! I did the same thing yesterday with mine and a few other flowers, my family room looks like a florist shop! Thankfully, Henri not too bad so far....just tons of rain here in NJ.
Thank you so much for showing the varieties in your video. It helps me dream of what to add to my own garden. Hopefully you came through the storm without too much damage.
Hi Yuliya. The storm is moving through here in CT right now. 🙏🏻 I sent a box of variegated sweet Iris to your p o box. I thought you might like their lavender blooms and I haven’t seen them in your garden. It’s fine if you don’t want them. I’m sure they’ll be sent back in a few days. One large clump divided into 150 rhizomes. Thanks for all your help!
O my goodness! I just picked them up. thank you soooo much. I don't check my PO Box that often - maybe once a month and was so surprised to see it. I planted them all and surprisingly they are alive and doing well 😊😊😁 Not sure how long they were in transit but they are absolutely fresh
Hi Yuliya, I believe "Tsuki Yori No Shisya" is Japanese. That means "A messenger from the moon". What a beautiful name! Your dahlias are beautiful and your elephant ears are so gorgeous too!!
Beautiful....thanks for taking time to show us...hopefully you don't lose a lot. This is my fiirst year trying Dahlias that a neighbor gave me...they do make a wonderful statement in late season garden....but I've learned my lesson to stake early....Lost a few after hard rain storms!
My parents had a neighbor who grew dahlias to show. She had wooden stakes at various heights in the bed with child size umbrellas attached to them. In heavy rain, she'd open all these umbrellas. It was so cute! That won't help you with a hurricane or tropical storm though. Hope it's not too bad!
OMG. They are BEAUTIFUL! My dahlias were 'breakfast, lunch and dinner" for the groundhog and rabbits. The TWO that did survive are stunted due to so much rain in MA. Every single day in July rained. :( As you said, there is always next year. Thank you for sharing!
I always said I'd never plant anything that I have to dig up and replant but I guess "never say never say never" because I've been looking at dahlias lately
The "Lifestyle" dahlia is gorgeous. I will have to look for that one next year. You are so sweet to share your dahlia bounty with your neighbors. It's always such a sweet way to surprise people. And I love gifting flowers as much as growing them for myself. Hope you made out well with the storm.
I’ll need to live my “dahlia life” vicariously through you, Erin (impatient Gardener) and Nicole (Flower Hill Farm). I am tired of fighting powdery mildew, and waiting soooo long for blooms here in northwest Michigan zone 5. I have 9 Emory Paul and have had only 2 blooms. For ME, They take up too much garden real estate for too little color in my climate. But, the beauty you shared today, Yulia, is enchanting!
I'm growing the same variety, first time. I'm in Minneapolis, zone 4b. I just saw a couple buds. When Yuliya said she'd been cutting blooms for weeks and weeks it made me think I must have done something wrong. I know I should have staked the plant at the time I planted it. You're right. They get huge and if you only get a couple blooms (not to mention caring for the tubers over winter) I may not grow this again.
They are all pretty! My favorite is that lifestyle and the solid whites! Not the whimsical whites the other ones! The color you said you could not describe looks raspberry.
My Franz Kafkas didn’t do well either. I had quite a few mislabeled tubers so that was a bummer too. I’ve got to come up with better staking and perhaps better pinching. I feel like I got a lot of height this year and not as many blooms, and smaller blooms. I think I’m just ready for fall. The humidity is so high here. I hope you didn’t get hit badly by the storm!
I grew dahlias from tubers for the first time this year (zone 5) and am very happy with the success. I followed Erin's and your advice to start them early in pots. The only disappointment was in the mislabeling from the nursery. I got varieties that I would not have ordered although they are pretty. I wonder if your mislabeled ones were from the same place listed in your description Maybe they had a bad year.
The dahlias are beautiful I ramped up my plantings this year and really enjoy the variety. I would also like to see a video on fertilizing or maintaining elephants during the season. Some grow like yours and others hardly grow not consistent. 😃
I bought 17, some that I saw on your channel some from Erin's. Had my Grandsons help pull up 95% of my flagstone pond patio to extend the garden to plant them. I don't know if it's the hrs of sun or what but all but 2 have been slow to bloom, some haven't yet =^\ I'm on Maryland's eastern shore and have been watching the radar for Henri, looks like he'll miss me, but I have something coming across the Chesapeake. Oh and no bloopers, miss those =^)
My dahlias did great this year too .. I can’t remember the names , but I have yellow ones & a really light pink , both are beautiful 💗 I love all of yours 💗
I hope you and your beautiful garden will be fine during the storm.. I was wondering how the elephant ears in the garden, which are behind you, at the seating area, so how do they survive high winds? Greetings and thank you for your videos, Judit
I hope all goes well, and no damage. My dahlias aren't blooming yet in IL 5b. They are in sun, but i started in the garden, so maybe in pots next year. I put fertilizer with planting, should I use a liquid fertilizer now to boost them?
I’m in 5b and started mine in pots in mid-April this year (normally I start them by late March). Mine are just now budding up. It really depends on the year, and we had a weird spring/early summer in the Midwest, but starting in pots is pretty essential for us.
@@GardenKath Oh, good. I'm in zone 4b and started my 'Emory Paul' inside and only recently noticed a couple buds. I didn't stake it despite being warned and it's laying on the ground. I hope it doesn't snap off at the base. I suppose it's pointless to try to prop it up with a half hoop support.
The ones I start in pots bloom about 3 weeks to a month early. You have to make sure you can provide sufficient light while they are in pots and don't let them go leggy!
Just stunning! I tried my first and only peach color dahlia tuber and it started blooming about 3 weeks ago. It's a very healthy plant with many buds but when the blooms open they only last about two days on the plant and then outer petals get all brown and look terrible. Is that normal? Or was it too much water/rain? Just discouraged. ~ stephanie
my dahlia hasnt even bloomed yet its cafe oliat and last year it bloomed red and this year no buds and i cut some dahlias at my sisters but they were very short the stems i mean
Stay safe! Thanks for sharing your beautiful dahlias! WOW!!!!💖🌸🌸🌸🙏🦋🐝👍👋😊
Beautiful flowers hope you will be ok with the storm coming.

Beautiful dahlias. Best of luck with the storm-hopefully it misses you.
Really gorgeous! I hope the storm wasn't as bad as predicted
Absolutely gorgeous flowers! Praying that the storm is not as strong as predicted for y’all.
Thank you! it wasn't too bad. Lots of water
Thank you so much for showing the varieties in your video. It helps me dream of what to add to my own garden. Hopefully you came through the storm without too much damage.
Thank you! it wasn't that bad, just lots of rain 😊
So beautiful! Hope that your garden is safe through the storm.

Gorgeous dahlias in your gorgeous gardens! Thank you for sharing Yulia :) Hope the storm didn't cause too much damage...
It wasn't bad just lots of rain.
An amazing array of dahlias!
Dahlias are beautiful !

Thankfully wasn't too bad 🙏
Will keep you all in prayer with these hurricanes!

Raspberry! Right!
What a beautiful display! Please stay safe! This year I lost tubers to voles!!!😭😢 first time ever….
O no! so sorry!
I hope your garden did not suffer too much from Henri. It is lovely.
Thank you Beth!

Mislabeling is real bad this year
@@greatgardensforall I contacted the company and they are sending replacements next year.

Mine grow like weeds 😂😂
Fantastic and lovely presentation Friend obrigado friend
Beautiful! How did the elephants ears hold up in the storm?
Excellent! they are from an area with monsoons and can withstand lots of rain and wind.

I love all of yours 💗
thank you! 😊
My dahlias that I grew them from seed already has powdery mildew but I enjoyed their flowers since first week of June.
Love them! I have Belle of Barmera & Myrtles follie and now I'm confused which is which! I'm leaving mine in the ground this year. I'm in Virginia.
I hope you and your beautiful garden will be fine during the storm.. I was wondering how the elephant ears in the garden, which are behind you, at the seating area, so how do they survive high winds?
Greetings and thank you for your videos,

thank you! elephant ears are great, they come from an area with regular monsoons and can withstand wind and lots of rain
I've been thinking of you.
So beautiful! I hope you didn’t get much damage.
not too bad. Ton of water though
💯💯💯💯
Great video TY
Lovely thanks . Ime watercolour flower painter love these flowers , where I live in Penzance Cornwall uk there is uk national dahlia collection xbx
Wonderful!
🥰🥰🥰🥰
The one before Otto Thrill, I am pretty sure is ‘April Dawn’. I’ve grown it for years.
Thank you!
Gorgeous!!! How do you get such long stems? Is it the variety?
Sometimes it’s the variety. Disbudding side buds (off the main bud) can also help if you do it repeatedly.
Interesting that your Seniors Hope was early for you…mine is just blooming now [started from seed] here is SF Bay Area z9b.
Wow! from seed! impressed

Yes, extra water can damage the blooms
👍👍👍👏👏👍
🤩👏👏👏👏
Muitos. Vaso. Em casa . Dahlias
what do you do for the earwigs before you bring them in the house
I put all of them in a plastic tub with water and drown the flowers. earwigs float within few minutes
my dahlia hasnt even bloomed yet its cafe oliat and last year it bloomed red and this year no buds and i cut some dahlias at my sisters but they were very short the stems i mean
every year it's different. sometimes mine are short sometimes tall. depends on the weather for sure
What are the very large leaves behind you? Are they easy to grow?
Elephant ears. I store them in winter like dahlias and start in early spring in pots inside. Once they sprout - very easy
Thank you.
Why my dahlia looks like a bush ? I don’t have those tall cut flowers 🤔
I hade beautiful dahlias in the spring but then the rains came and they rotted from to much rain. 😒🙄😔😖😭
Yes, unfortunately that can happen 😳
Hi my elephant ears are drooping to the ground. I give them enough water not sure what the issue could be.
when mine droop it's because of lack of water or too much sun
waw so sweet plase.
And all these came from tubers?
yes 😊
After now still Waiting for new video from last one month
Sorry! we had crazy weather and I am working on two very large projects at the moment. Hope you had a chance to see the latest garden tour 😊😊
😂
