      I've had the vinyl start coming loose and peeling up on two. They replaced the first one under warranty (with an X4S), and now the new one just started peeling up on the back corner. So each has lasted about 3 years. I'll probably try to glue it back down, otherwise I still like it.

    I work construction and have the same cover for five years. Open and close daily, Texas heat, Texas hail storm, you name it. Zero issues. I find it strange you got a defective product repeatedly.

    The "felts" came loose on mine after it was out of warranty. I took the whole cover off, flipped it upside down, applied construction adhesive, and put back the felts. It's held for at least three years.

  • @ryanmshaeffer
    @ryanmshaeffer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Great, honest review. Even with the 5 year warranty, full replacement is off the table after the 5 years. I had two X2's fall completely apart in 6 years, and with my latest completely disintegrated, best they would do is 50% off. The felt went first after less than a year. Year 2 the vinyl would shrink and pull away from from the edges, then completely crack and bind the rolling ability before year 3. While some of the issues have been addressed like the plastic replacing the felt, mountains of reviews now claim the endcaps come off and the vinyl quality still shrinks and cracks. I opted to get the MX4 instead with the discount, and hope I don't continue to have problems from this "premium" tonneau company. $1K+ is too much money to have it become trash in 3 years from Georgia sun.

    • @ryanmshaeffer
      @ryanmshaeffer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jobeall5078 , pretty good so far. I don't want to jinx it, but after 1 year there are no issues with fading or the materials itself. Only problem I've had so far is that they use plastic caps in the fold joints to lock into the rails which pop out of place every time I open it, and makes closing it a pain. (This was echoed by a couple other people's comments it looks like). Jury is still out since my Revolvers all failed at the 2-3 year mark.

    Hey I bought a Access Lorado Roll-Up tonneau cover in 2010 and it has been great.
    Always parked outside, i have no garage or carport, little to no shade all day.
    It has been rolled down most of the 14 years, stayed rolled up for about the past 5 years until 2 weeks ago rolled it back down.
    The hook strip on bed rail is wore out but it still stays down when driving.
    The fabric is fine.

If they had been priced the same I would’ve gone with the roll-up since it is easier to install. I think the retractable is a more permanent solution, is more water/dust resistant and looks great on the Maverick. However, I have to hand it to BAK for standing behind their product. You're lucky to get a response via email onces every 4 days, and when you call in the automated voice tells you they're experiencing high call volumes and to use email support. Well I wouldn't be calling in if email support wasn't horrible. Poor quality control, poor customer support. Unfortunately there's not many options for the CarbonPro bed.

    I have the Revolver X2, it’s past warranty period now, but had same thing with felt, and the vinyl was peeling off after a little over a year. They replaced, but the second one was clunky and did exact same thing. I had asked when I got my replacement if it was also covered, and they simply wouldn’t respond to me at all. That’s upsetting to know the warranty continued even with the replacement, especially since these things aren’t cheap. I was left with the impression that I should just be happy I got the one replacement. I would never spend that money on one of these again. If you roll without the felt, it pinches the crap out of your fingers!

      My X4s had one of the caps broken off upon delivery. According to FedEx tracking the warrantee replacement cap was delivered today while I'm at work. Not only was one of the two spring clips broken, but the indexing pin was also broken. My thought on how to improve this part would be to cut off the indexing pin, drill a hole there, and then use a pop-rivet to hold it on. I'm trying to decide if I should preemptively modify my cover, or wait for the warrantee to run out before I pop-rivet those two endcaps on...
      Something that I have discovered with the cap missing. It is easy to see that I need to adjust the cover placement because the rear gasket material isn't quite touching the tailgate. Need to shift everything back by about 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch.

      @ZeroToAwesome so good to know! I just now ordered one for my truck. If I mostly keep it in the garage, hopefully it will last even in our TX brutal heat. I know none of the types of covers are 100% waterproof, but I am hoping it will keep groceries or horse feed sacks dry for a 30 minute drive in the rain ...a blessing we seldom get.

    So it seems these only work if you live in a perfectly medium environment. Too hot they fail, too cold (seen in other reviews) and they won't roll up. Probably taking these off the list of possibilities.

  • @rivvanredorb
    @rivvanredorb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The felt isn't there for heat purposes, it's to keep someone from pinching their fingers while rolling it. Ask how I know this? Because I've gone through 2 covers myself and both times the felt has melted loose in the Texas heat. So when it did I had to roll it with partial felt or no felt and I pinched my fingers skin bad! So I still have the faulty one on my truck yet myself trying to figure out what to do.

    In addition to being hot, once you have the felt off the old model you'll find that the panels will pinch the hell out of you when you unroll it barehanded. Additionally, after a couple years the rubber starts to deteriorate and everything that touches it (hands, clothes, etc.) gets annoying black marks all over it. I've had mine about 5 years and it is barely holding up. Pieces keep falling off of it, the rubber strips keep bunching up and sliding off the ends, and it leaks like crazy! I have really grown to hate the old Bak Revolver. So, even if at a great price, I would steer clear of this bed cover. I won't even consider the new version after how bad this one has been.

    So no better one found.? I had a Retrax on my 2010 2500 then put another one on my 2020 3500. I thought they would have made improvements but they have not. They have sent me like 3 sets of rails & a new cover as mine is Crooked at the head unit. What I told them is stupid & should have fixed since this cover has been out for a long time is the locking mechanism. It is nice that it covers all stake pockets & you can lock it anywhere but the lock uses pointed pins to dig into the aluminum rail leaving marks and can move as metal to metal will not stay. They need to make the locking fingers bigger & add a type of rubber to them so it does not damage the rails & will help keep it in place. I was also thinking maybe a rubber strip on the rail so the locking pins can dig into the rubber

    Bought the X4s for my 2021. The cover isn’t wide enough to lock into the rails. It’s about a 1/3” off. They sent me new rails which didn’t fix the issue. Also, one of the panels separated showing the felt underneath and leaving a nice lump in the cover. They’re sending me a new cover after I took measurements showing how it wasn’t wide enough and sent pics of the separation. I’m really disappointed with Bak I had the version 1 cover for 4.5 years with no issues ever.
