Mine do teaching textbooks, it’s online, the do a video demonstration then you do it, they give you some hints, plus grade it, all mine including my high schoolers love it!

MCT was too advanced for my 5th grader😬. I switched her to Beowulf Grammer and we both love it!! Once we're done with that, I'm hoping to pick up MCT again.

We went from Saxon and Nicole the Math Lady to Denison! Highly suggest taking a look at that one. :)

Hi! So happy to hear about the mid-term update. We have switched from Sequential Spelling to Dianne Craft's Right Brain spelling. It is a list of 12000 commonly used words in order and uses mnemonic devices and photogenic memory for children to remember how to spell words. It's a little teacher intense on the first day but it is very easy to use. We also use her write 8 exercise and I have seen so much retention and growth in my kids. We also add in the cartoon vocabulary and it so WONDERFUL!! Sidebar: I feel the pain of ditching an expensive curriculum. We did Saxon as well and found out after the trial period it did not work for us. Math was taking over a hour to do. Now we use Math U See and my 8th grader loves it. If you didn't want to buy another expensive curriculum look into Learn Math Fast ,Real World Math and/or Financial Literacy math until you decide on which direction you want to go. The good thing is that your daughter is ahead so you can use this as a filler year.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm going to check them out. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that has a hard time letting go of expensive curriculum. LOL.

Denison Math is awesome. I have one in pre algebra and one in algebra 1. We went to that after Saxon.

I loved Saxon and Nicole , but son who was also a year ahead hated it for the same reason. We finished it but I ditched it this year it was way too long and I didn’t like how concept would skip around. It was taking 1.5 to do just the bare minimum. It also caused my son who loved math to start hating. We moved to MUS/ Oak meadow Math he loves math again.

We did Math U See for Pre-algebra but she wanted a change. We may switch back if I can't find anything else. Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

I was homeschooled, and Saxon went so bad for me with its tedium and excess of problems that even decades later my husband knows it's a dirty word in our house 😊 Have you heard of CTC Math? Once my son can read well, I'm planning on having him switch to it because of the amazing reviews.

I will add CTC to my list of programs to check out! Thanks for sharing!

Last year we started kindergarten but my youngest was pre school/ kindergarten and this year she’s completely in kindergarten!!! My oldest hates math but it’s going ok!!! I feel that kids need time to learn stuff!!! We use Singapore math for my oldest using Singapore editions!!! I think you need to make it work or find something else!!! My kids love phonics work but they are dyslexic and it helps dyslexic kids more!!! We use a different word study curriculum separately!!! Not often tho!!! Math u See is awesome but my older kids hate it!!! I thought of using it with my youngest but ended up using MWC so it’s deeper and loving the deeper approach to math!!! It’s awesome that ur son is learning to read!!! My older daughter did the human body science chunks with one of her pre med teachers and he told me it’s awesome as she refused to do it as a family!!! Her teacher’s report on it amazed me!!! Nothing wrong with going slower in some curriculums!!! We’ve been slower on our Bible curriculum recently!!!

Thanks for always making me feel better when I'm feeling doubt. It's so reassuring to hear we are not the only ones that struggle! Glad to hear things are going well for you guys right now.

Conceptual Academy recently added an Algebra course. It's highly discounted (~$30?) right now since it's a pilot program. I know their science classes are highly regarded in the secular homeschool community. Might be worth looking into since you already spent a ton on an algebra program you aren't liking.

It sounds like overall, things have been going well! I was so hoping you’d come back with MCT and say it’s awful so I’ll stop thinking about it. 😝 I’m not sure if you’ve checked out Denison Math for your oldest, but I’ve been hearing a lot of praise for it recently. I believe it also has video lessons.

I know. The price tag is way higher than things I normally look at. But I have to admit I like it. And the PDF version isn't so bad if you are going to use it with multiple children. I have to admit, I think I might even say worth it. LOL
However, the grammar part is very similar to Fix It! Grammar in my opinion. So if you are looking for a more budget friendly option for only grammar I highly recommend that!
