Read a funny meme the other day that said I’m the homeschool mom
Who would rather plan next year than finish this year 🙋‍♀️
    This fueled that fire haha

Thank you, Ashlee! I used BJU Earth Science and Spanish 1 based on your recommendations for my daughter for 8th grade, and she tested out of those courses for 9th grade when she started public high school. She’s literally a year ahead of her peers in both science and language!

I so appreciate when you lay out why or why not something jives in your homeschool or with your child. Your reviews have influenced many of my curriculum choices... whether I choose the same thing, or you've made me realize a good reason why the thing that worked for your kids wouldn't work for mine. So helpful!

I love your curriculum picks. I got Notgrass history and that Master books worship to try next year. I've been using TGATB language arts and BJU math. I'm a math teacher so I prefer teaching it myself. I'm surprised that you're not using Apologia for science.

Loved this video! I was wondering, what made you choose BJU science over apologia? I’m torn between the two for next year.

My high schooler has been using Fluenz for Spanish. They have many other languages to choose from including French.

Totally agree with TGTB math 6! There have been no tears at all and I did notice that the appearance of letters in math equations wasn't a shock. I think the way they teach math just makes it a natural progression. We're looking forward to Math 7 for next year before moving on to Algebra!

Would you say BJU Earth science is better for 8th graders vs doing science units from TGTB?

You have so many great choices here, I want to try them all! How long is your school day to fit all this in, and how long is your morning time usually? Thanks! 😊

I am not a Homeschool parent, but I love education and I love watching your curriculum videos. I used to be a teacher and on day one they told me my students didnt know how to read. These were 4th graders. So hearing you say that your kids can read thrir text books makes my heart rest.

I've never heard of the BJU biblical worldview book. I'm going to add that to my list!

I looked at Grand Canyon University myself recently but when I checked my local state university’s conversion tool I realized that most of their credits only transfer as elective credit rather than as specific classes/requirements. Credits from my local community colleges on the other hand do transfer as specific courses/requirements.
If your kids have a general idea of where they want to go to college, I would recommend checking with those universities for equivalencies. Most schools have online conversion tools available.

Such a great update video! Honestly super appreciate it!! I agree that BJU science is so well done! I always wonder if you find your kids do it for hourrrrrs a day? My daughter loves science, also, and with all the videos (that and Spanish) and reading and questions, it takes five eternities to finish all the work - and then schormann on top of that, aha!! And hmmm! We need to look into the Hymn study! We also have and enjoy the biblical worldview book, though my 8th grader also super likes the Generations How Jesus Built His Church book!

Would you be able to do a video about highschool transcripts/ a breakdown of the classes/credits each year and how you put them in and your plan for graduation etc. That would be very very veeeeery helpful to me as well as many who have kiddos reaching this next stage!! I love the wisdom that you bring and I’ve learned so very much from watching your videos. My daughter is going into grade 8 next year and I’m feeling the stress and a bit overwhelmed at what high school is going to look like.

I was thinking about subscribing to World Watch. The code listed is not valid on their site. I know you work with them a bit... would you happen to have another one? Also, I'm so thankful for the high school content. There isn't much out there for homeschooling high school.

Have you looked closely at TGTB math 7? I am wondering if it is solid enough to be a pre-algebra course and a child could go right into algebra I after it?

I’m glad Notgrass worked well for your family. My children didn’t like it. We did all like the literature packs though.
We switched to Biblioplan. It’s well written, has plans for additional spines if you choose and my whole family is at the same time in history including my high schoolers. They also give literature recommendations that match up to the history you’re studying. I love getting to chose the literature.

Why do you choose BJU science over Shormann

    • @GraceandGrit
      @GraceandGrit  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Because i didn’t know shormann had science when i started looking for highschool level science. And then we started with BjU and have loved it, so I didn’t want to change it.

I have a tricky situation and am hoping you’d maybe have an opinion to help :) we recently moved to a new area and we’re feeling incredibly lonely and isolated the first few months here. Quite a few families from our church do a very well known co-op(international) and kind of coaxed us into joining after Christmas for the last semester of the year. It was extremely expensive and I poured a lot of our savings into buying all the material and paying all the fees. Well, we are two weeks in and my older children (challenge and essentials level) are in tears everytime I pull out any work. They feel so behind, inadequate, and unable to do the work. What should I do! I don’t feel like I can allow them to quit because of the money poured into it, but it is now affecting their self worth and creating a huge rift in our homeschool. So bummed! Help!

Just chiming in to say that I would switch to another curriculum as soon as possible. The money lost is worth sacrificing rather than have your kids lose their love for learning. Classical Conversations works for some families but not for many others. Maybe you'll find this video from Colleen who's another wise and experienced homeschool mom helpful.

Great update especially for those upper grades! I remember that you did a Logic course from Masterbooks a couple years ago. Is that something you have continued with each student?
