- Most cars have a hidden gauge menu and the Mini Cooper R56 is no different. In this video I go over of how to get into the menu and the reason why you might want you. Mini Cooper's hidden menu serves a few purposes but mostly it is for curiosity and getting some interesting information. You can also make adjustments such as compensating for the fuel economy.

How to Calculate compensation numbers:
If you calculated that your car is getting 30mpg, but car shows 33mpg you are off by 9.09% (3/33=9.09%). Once you are in the hidden menu, you will notice that the factory default is 1000, so if you need to adjust it by 9.09%, it would become 909 instead of the 1000 (1000-9.09%=909).

1.1 Kilometer count
1.2 Parts number
1.3 Coding-, Diagnostic- and Bus-index
1.4 Production Date (Calendar week/year)
1.5 Hard- and Software status
1.6 Injector status, Cylinder count, Engine factor.
2.0 Combisystem Test
3.0 Service intervall counter
4.0 Actual fuel consumption in l/100km. eg.0154 = 15,4 liters/100kms.
4.1 Consumption in liters/100kms.
5.0 Distance consumption in l/100kms.
5.1 Actual rest distance with available fuel in Kms.
6.0 Actual amount of fuel in tank. eg. 123321 =12,3liters left 32,1 liters right
6.1 Total amount of fuel in tank.
6.2 Show value of Fuel guage. 1= both senders OK, 2= sender failure, 3=ti signal implausible (no reading)
7.0 Actual coolant temp.
7.1 Actual outside temp.
7.2 Actual engine revs.
7.3 Actual speed
9.0 Actual on board voltage (Battery)
10.0 Land codes
11.0 Unit codes
13.0 Gong test
14.0 - 14.4 On board diagnostic codes. eg 000000 = no failures
19.0 On/Off for Test menu.
20.0 Correction factor for Fuel consumption
Formula for correction:
Shown consumption x 1000 / user defined consumption
Push the trip reset button to begin the correction. Numbers count up from 0-9, when correct number shows push trip reset button.
20.1 Sets 10ths. for consumption factor
20.2 Sets 100ths. and 1000ths. for consumption factor
20.3 Saves the new consumption factor and shows new value
21.0 Software reset. (Same as disconnecting battery)

When I turn the ignition on with the key pushed in, the car goes to accessory mode like normal, but then when I hold the trip meter button it does not bring up the VIN or change anything for that matter.
How and where do you enter the unlock code? Nothing pops up on entering an unlock code for me in these menus, and it looks like a step that was cut out in this video.
I have a Mini Cooper Convertible (2010) R57, but the revolution display does not show Temp, Distance to Empty or MPG when pressing the button on indicator stalk, it only toggles between a blank row above the mileage or SET/INFO option. Any advice on how to enable the OBC information?

You do not actually show menu 2 unlocking. It seems user presses button until relevant code then do nothing, until display changes. My displays sits at "Lock Code on Code 32" (32 for me - double checked vin) r57 2008 UK
Hi, the hidden menu worked a few times for me. But now that I’ve done some work on the car. I am NoT able to access the hidden menu. When holding down trip reset button (nothing comes up) I do hold it for a long period of time. 2011 mini copper s r56. Please help 😅

On my cluster when i press the button to go through the options I only have the miles, current speed, temperature and the options menu (Set options), there is no fuel consumption info.
When i go to number 4 it says "No information"
I do get information on number 5 but i don t undesrtan what it means is it an avarege of my consuptions every 100km?

Since it shows 'actual' fuel consumption, you won't see anything unless the car is running. Since the engine isn't running, there is no fuel consumption at the time.
Option 5 would be your average consumption in liters per 100 kilometers, correct. Option 5.1 will show you how much you can drive on the remaining fuel in liters - range until tank is empty.

thanks for answering, but still when I start the car option 4 does not give me information,
when I bought the car the old owner said that they had disabled the option to see the consumption unintentionally in the brand shop when they were trying to reset the service info.

How do u have a screen as an infotainment, can I install it on a 2010 r56?
It’s factory navigation system. I’m sure you could retrofit, but that would be really expensive.

One question though
Is it possible to keep the water temp up on the lower lcd display on the tacko, while having the speedo in the upper lcd in the tacko ?
Unfortunately not, these aren't that customizable. You'd have to open it up each time to have the water temp displayed.

I might look at fitting a remote gauge beside the tacko to keep a eye on things. Just feels funny not being able to see water temp as its quite a important gauge

I can’t get mine to unlock. 24785=26. I get it to 26, hold the button, disappears, comes back lock ON. I noticed in your video, when you hold the button and it disappears, when it comes back on for a split second, it says lock ON then there’s an edit in the video and it’s OFF. How many times you had to try or what else you had to do to get it OFF?
I think I tried it 2 times, but honestly I don't remember now. It's very strange that it doesn't work for you. I can't think of any reasons why it wouldn't other than maybe you had the cluster replaced?
@@SimpleCarGuy I figured it out. Once it comes back and still says locked, I got completely out of the menu, went back to the beginning and started the procedure over. It was unlocked. Went to 19 to check and it was lock OFF.

thanks for the video. Can I program on this option that my windows get closed when I press the locked button? the windows open itself while pressing the unlock button but I can't close it it's really helpful to do this cause I often forget to close the window or sunroof
Not using this menu, you'd need a coding diagnostics tool for that.

In this hidden menu, can we check the actual mileage? Intend to buy a used car... but heard that most of the used car dealer tempered and lower down the actual mileage.
1.1 is the kilometer counter which shows KM from when the car was new. The car then takes that value and coverts it to miles. I assume that if someone knows how to temper with mikes they would know about this part as well. But it’s worth checking.

What are the last 7 digit of your VIN and what number are you entering?

Doesnt work on my 2008 base mini cooper. Speedometer looks different than one in video
EDIT: After i cleared the airbag code, i was able to acces the menu

Do you have the button to select? What happens when you click on it?
SimpleCarGuy nothing happens cannot select. The Bluetooth is desactívate ( off )
Have you connected the phone to the car? I believe you have to do that first and then the bluetooth option will show up for music/phone.

Good morning. I have just read your question regarding the bluetooth issue. Have you been able to solve the problem? I have bought a Mini Cooper R56 for my daughter and there exists the same problem, that the Bluetooth check box can not be activated. The USB and Aux connection is not working as well.
