    Metalcore when done right.Problem is too many metalcore bands stayed stale and were afraid to branch off with their sound. It all sounded way too formulaic. Killswitch knew and knows how to keep it fresh and interesting.

    Great review, but how could you not include triumph through tragedy? That song is incredible and adam D's vocals on it are insane.

    "It Falls On Me" is a REALLY underrated track off this album. Creates an extremely dense atmosphere.

    I love KsE and what they bring to the table. My least favorite record is their second self titled record (last one with Howard) and it still has some fantastic songs on it; however, it was a little to ballad laden. It was a breath of fresh air when Jesse came back and they have continued to put out quality music with this record.

    Great review. I like that you aren't afraid to admit that you like something, that you may be a little outside of shell. I personally think this album is one of their best and best metal albums of the past decade or so. The vocals on this record are fantastic.

    Awesome. Thank you so much, Sam. I haven't been been too much of fan of malcore and there have been some bands who have made ok stuff over the years but this particular band has always been the band that really stands out for me and my absolute favorite of the genre. Since there's the creators of the sound, it only makes perfect sense that they're the only band of its kind that keeps it going. Long Live Killswitch Engage.

    Sam you're wearing a Crobar shirt! that place is so cool! i stumbled upon it by total accident when in London last. i was walking by and saw iron maiden on the wall and i was like "oh that must be a poster or something. let me go check it out" nope! doors! it felt like opening the doors to Narnia. haha i felt like i was the first person to have discovered this bar. haha (obviously i wasn't. i know)

    Great review man. You've earned yourself another sub. I've never been able to get into Killswitch after The End Of Heartache for some reason. Every album seems to lean more and more towards classic metal than classic hardcore, which I'm a bigger fan of. I still think Blood Has Been Shed was the best sound coming from some of these guys that I still listen to to this day. i wish they kept that going a little longer.

  • @sdny7111

    Yeah he is true Metalhead. I couldn't of said it better myself. I would just add that they went back to their roots. The great deceit is awesome my favorite.

  • @johnocase7941
    @johnocase7941 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    This record is amazing and really brings back a lot of the nostalgia of their roots, You can hear a lot of "Alive Or Just Breathing" seeping out within their verse riffs and break downs. But you still get that fast paced aggressive behavior that "Disarm The Descent" offers and finally being followed up by their traditional powerful choruses that really draw you in. This album is in no way stale, and incorporates all of the best elements that everyone has grown to love about their sound, while also pushing the envelope a little bit. I personally love the album and it will be the soundtrack of the summer to me. Great job KSE!

    great review from sam, but kse for me will always 4/4. they are one of the band that help shape & defines metalcore as we known today. for all Fanboys, please guys, the bands didnt wear each others merch for no reason...

    Metalcore died for me around 2009. Still, willing to give this a shot. Converge and Cult Leader can't be the only ones still making good music for a whole genre, right?

    Been digging this album a lot! Embrace the Journey is the best song they've made in years IMO

    • @PorscheJon
      @PorscheJon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +tenaciousfilm ikr. How was that track not mentioned? imo this album is a 4 out of 4 skulls. Every song is different. How was Hate By Design not mentioned? Until the Day? This album is full of greatness. It's probably because he likes the more heavy stuff and isn't too fond of the softer melodic type songs ("Cut Me Loose", "Just Let Go", "Quite Distress", "It Falls On Me", "We Carry On"). But even those songs have heavy elements. I mean there really isn't any ballads on this album. There are endless amounts of riffs. The lyrics are fantastic. Jesse just sounds more genuine and real than ever. The songs are just dynamic and great! KsE are really one of the only genuine metalcore bands out there right now. Alot of other metalcore groups are uninspiring and just sound like copycats of the sound rather than real creators of their sound. KsE keeps it real!

    • @beebosean
      @beebosean 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PorscheJon Agreed. I think tracks 12-14 are absolutely sensational and I was really pleased that they included as many heavy songs on the album as they did. I was concerned that they might go ATR and go heavy on the melodic side.

    • @beebosean
      @beebosean 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +PorscheJon The album took me a handful of listens to grasp, but once I learned the songs it quickly became one of my favorite metal albums of all time. The versatility on the record is absolutely amazing. Not to mention the fact that the vocals on this entire album for jesse AND adam D are freaking incredible. I love every song on the album just like I did DTD and can't wait to see them in concert on april 7th in sacremento.

  • @MrBadimon
    @MrBadimon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    While I agree with everything said, I have to add that the content of the lyrics is ALSO a lot about politics and society. For example in hate by design or the great deceit it is obvious that kse critizise how humanity gets divided and hatred against each other is raised by media, politics etc.

  • @alexhayes06
    @alexhayes06 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    While I don't think this is their best record, I think it's a step in the right direction. It feels like their least straightforward Metalcore album yet, with some clear Death Metal influence, like in "The Great Deceit", and even some Black Metal influence, like in "Reignite" and particularly with the dissonant open strum patterns in tracks like "Cut Me Loose" as well as the former. Even the opening riff of "Strength of the Mind" feels a little like Prog. Riff-wise it just seems so much more technically interesting than quite a few of their other records. 6.5/10

      Seems like it really depends on what got you into KSE. People like myself who got into the band during the Alive or Just Breathing era tend to be Jesse fans. Those that got into the band during the more popular End of Heartache era or later tend to like Howard more.

  • @craigroaring

    Killswitch Engage don't impress me much. They sound too much like other bands. In the past I've heard them rip off In Flames riffs, this album sounds like The Haunted meets Lamb of God. Done already.

      DownFromTheSky89 The last thing metal needs is the same old shit regurgitated over and over again. I'm so sick of the scene being over-run by bands with nothing new to offer.

    • @DownFromTheSky89
      @DownFromTheSky89 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the artist formally known as craig lastname the last thing metal needs is for people to over analyze everything. the important thing is a lot of people enjoy it. yes i've heard it all before. but i still enjoy it. if i want to listen to something different i do. but i still enjoy the stuff too. you don't like it? then look for something else. it doesn't mean it isn't good.
