@@TitanSKiZlz I like ambient lighting. Tesla has subtle white lighting in the doors, and it would be okay with me if they did more of that. BMW achieves a more tasteful look than Mercedes' endless array of thick outlines of bright gummybear colors. Combined with massively round sphincter-style air vents, Mercedes design is all over the place that looks bad IRL. Though I thought I would hate the scent canisters, I really do like that gimmick.
Sorry but Tesla is already years ahead of its competition. They already update what's important in their cars over the air unlike every other car manufacturer out there. It doesn't need a refresh every 2 years because people do not need a new car every 2 years. Also, reviews should not be based on personal opinions about design. As they say, beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. You might be used to seeing a new car every couple of days, but most of us aren't. Just because the Germans refresh their cars by adding extra trim every couple of years, that doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do.
Nothing about this car is dated. I work in the automotive industry and drive many cars daily. Every time I get my hands on a Tesla I think of how futuristic it still feels compared to other cars.
I think the options are dated. Why can't you customize the interior color on a 6 figure car like this?? Where is like red, blue, etc? Carbon Fiber roof? These type of options should be available.
You think the giant touchscreen seems dated? what do you recommend they replace it with? I can't really think of something myself that's better - the resolution looks great and it doesn't seem like there's much bezel so I can't see much room to improve
That depends on the metrics you use to measure it. Cars are a subjective thing, a great car to someone may be a terrible car to someone else. So when you say it's the greatest car ever made, you have to specify the category you rank it by.
@@Afronaut64 Never said that You, on the other hand, answered "who else has a screen that big?" by mentioning the "new Land Cruiser" and "Mercedes Benz" which are both objectively incorrect, their screens are NOT "that big"
This car still looks amazing. I think tweaks here and there over the future would be fine, but don't fix what ain't broke. The Model S was and is a groundbreaking car with a sleek and defined look, no point messing with that.
quote: "But in a segment that prioritizes freshness, visually, the Model S is anything but." Have you *looked* at those other refreshed cars competing in this segment? Most of them are from ultra-stodgy German companies, and they have all the style and character of a cinder block. quote: "This touch screen that was once hyper-futuristic back in 2012? Well, now it's starting to look a little bit dated." Oh?? Dated compared to what, I wonder? Is somebody else shipping cars now with a bigger screen? Let me know, because I haven't seen that.
IMHO, the Model S is still one of the sexiest sedans out there. If it was cheaper I would‘ve opted for a Model S instead of a Model 3. But I‘m happy neverthereless.
I hope they don't update the interior because it doesn't need updating. If they do, it's only going to get worse since they'll eliminate more things so it becomes more basic like the Model 3 interior.
I have a 2019 red S with cream colour seats. Traded in one of my Audi sport models for it. A great performance car and the looks are fresh like it were the latest model. Winter range up north is poor at maybe 33 to 40 percent and you have to drive it smoothly and at a steady slower speed to get range.
It's an ignorant reviewer who confuses styling with design. It's the same kind of ignorance that believes upgrading a radio that's integrated with an ECM and a tablet is an advacement in automotive technology. If "freshness" is important, the reviewer should shave, get plastic surgery and a new wardrobe.
It's amazing this late in 2019 still to see so many latest 2019 and 2020 Model S videos in TH-cam. It's not because these reviewers/owners are late to the game, but to note that this Tesla Model S is still an awesome car that attracts so many views and that people are still buying and sharing their experiences, including your review Mr. "R" So... it is not dated! Just as many comments in here, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. Model S is still by far the best looking car anywhere you are on the road, stop lights, parking lot. If you own and drive a Model S, you still do get heads turn and people coming closer to look at it. The exterior of the Model S is as handsome, modern yet clean design; the interior still is minimalist yet comes with full function. Who needs those extra pockets, cup holders and, file cabinets in a car? The infotainment, it can display miles of streets and highways around you on the map with that 17" screen, name one 'competitor' who can actually do that? Lastly, the range, in any of the Model S is far greater than others. With the latest numbers of Tesla Superchargers, that anxiety is pretty much far forgotten. I have a white Model S just like the tester in this video, and am proud to be its owner. I often find excuses just to go out to the garage to take another peek at it, it never once let me down.
I specifically got the raven as I feel this will be the last refresh before the next complete overhaul of the model. There are rumors that it will be a lot like model 3 and I don’t care for it. I love the way the model S is now.
If Tesla "needs a refresh", then so does BMW, Porsche, etc. They've looked the same for 20+ years. IMO, the more you needlessly change the appearance, the faster that appearance looks outdated.
True which is why the model X and model s still has the original designs (except for the grill) but who ever complains about the design being outdated is stupid because there are cars that just have that timeless look that always looks good.
The benefit of the increase in range is super important for longer road trips. Instead of stopping to charge 3-4 times to get to your destination, you might only need to charge once.
I disagree with the car looking dated. I love the look of this car, inside and out. I actually don't like the "minimalist" look of the model 3's interior, and I really don't like the look of the front and rear of the Model 3. I'm buying a Model S long range, and your video helped me to make up my mind. Thanks for an informative video.
Great job. It is one of the fair and balanced tesla review i have found in youtube. Many traditional car reviewers i think, struggle to have balanced view on tesla because they are so used to reviewing traditional ICE vehicles and Teslas are different on so many different levels.👍
I hate to say this but Teslas are like smartphones. The fanciest combustion engine cars are like BlackBerry, they're nice, but they aren't smartphones... And y'all remember what happened to blackberry when it didn't get with the program.
Amazing how reviewers keep saying its dated but yet the Model S is STILL better than anything else. People who get in mine are blown away about how futuristic and great performance it has. Does any other manufacturer have anything close? Not hardly.
Complain about unchanging looks in this car and drool over the unchanging Porsche models. Those cars have looked the same year after year. It's all good though. Both companies will continue to sell despite criticism.
My Model 3 (April 2019) has none of that - I say they fixed those production problems. I don't remember this much hubbub when Ford knowling put in those exploding gas tanks that incinerated some folks in their Pintos just to save a few bucks or when GM wanted to pay only 50 cents for a dollar key switch that ended up killing some people. But now it's "panel gaps" - never even heard that term until Tesla. The screams, smiles and laughs we get from friends we give their first Tesla rides to has NO comparison to any other car manufacturer. You might get an ooh and awe when riding in a Bentley but you don't get screams and giggles or a "holy sh!t", from any other car.
After getting past all the "dated" comments that have triggered so many, I found the rest of this piece very good and informative. I really appreciate the observations on the new smart suspension system, which I've been very curious about, but I've hardly seen any coverage of it anywhere else.
Doesn’t continually changing and updating an interior and exterior with new plastic moulded parts and trashing the old ones go against the entire eco friendly movement with Tesla? The car interior and exterior should stay the same and utopian so the design and mould costs go to zero over time due to amortization and become fully recyclable. If the eco friendly model means anything we should forget about needing new fake looks every year.

This car is beautiful. Its not a dated design. it still looks like it was released today. No other manufacturer has such a beautiful design philosophy. Teslas simply look beautiful. They are well proportioned and have subtle character lines to distinguish themselves by looking unique. Only the Germans do such design (by keeping it simple but timeless for instance the VW and Audi cars). Tesla as a brand have imbibed the best qualities of the European auto industry, Asian Industry and Silicon Valley. Their total vertical integration is similar to Toyota. Agree with everything in this review. It almost seems like a final sendoff to the original Model S architecture. It’s been an amazing EV and it’s time for the next step forwards.
Chasing perfection is always a driving force for man. I understand the updates the presenter pointed out for the Tesla Model S. This is my thoughts on the car based on my experience as an owner. I purchased a 2017 Tesla Model S 60D (218 mile range) in January 2017 which included unlimited free supercharging. Options purchased were dual motor AWD, air suspension, metal roof, upgraded seats, white paint. Several months later I paid $2,000 discounted price for software to unlock battery pack to full 75kWh (259 mile range) and uncorked 0-60mph acceleration from 5.4 to 4.5 seconds. I have driven over 48,000 miles with my biggest expense being replacing the Goodyear tires with Michelin tires a couple of months ago. I love this car, it’s the best I’ve ever owned in 47 years of driving. Now I look at the 2020 Tesla Model S Long Range Plus. It’s dual motor AWD with a 100kWh (391 mile range with 0-60mph acceleration in 3.7 seconds) and all of the options I paid for in my car included in the price. Also included are HEPA filtration and the cold weather package (no metal roof option). Now for the most impressive statistic of all, the price. The price including tax and license for the 2020 Tesla Model S Long Range Plus is only about $1,000 more then what I paid for my 2017 Tesla S 75D (Note: I did get the $7,500 tax credit for my 2017 which is no longer available). For that you get better range, better acceleration, more options then a similar car just three years earlier. Personally, I think Tesla has made a good choice in keeping the body style for a few more years while they introduce new EV models to ween the public off of ICE cars. Money well spent!
The problem with updating the body is that it is extremely difficult to get another design that is as aerodynamic when you are already near peak efficiency. Any more tweaks will probably come at the cost of efficiency in the future. So refresh not likely to happen every beyond minor changes.
Great review. Despite the car design looking on the old side, the technology is not. I would buy this car without hesitation. Still the original, ground breaking EV on the market.
I think this car needs a new interior (horizontally oriented screen would be really nice, because it offers a better layout for content and all that stuff), new rear lights (because current ones simply don't match the front end and those single LEDs there just look cheap), new tech (heads-up display is a must-have IMO - try it once and you will never want a car without it; and 360 cameras system - maybe not as fancy as new BMWs have but at least cheap yet useful Infinity kinda thing), leave the front end untouched and please leave an option for carbon fiber interior elements for non-performance models - and there you have it - a perfect car
Jeez, the Tesla fan boys are out in force today. Be open to criticism, he is just pointing out the lack of update to the cars exterior and interior. And stop bragging about the touchscreen y’all say no one can compete with... the Prius got pretty much the same thing and the other luxury brands just like having a landscape type screen connecting it to the screen behind the steering wheel, chill 😂.

The interior of the Model S is definitely one of the most futuristic ones ever. The competition looks obsolete compared to the Tesla’s display functionality, quality, etc. Tesla is 20 years ahead of the competition...
Can I ask you a reasonable question, you are sitting in an $86,000 (est) model s. Tell me one other luxury car manufacturer offers comparable tech, luxury, design and comfort for that price point? By the way this "aging" design looks better than 90% of the cars on the road.
I really hope that the next generation of model S keeps the same dashboard, I don’t like the model 3 one, you have to look away from the road to keep track of the speed, and you have to since it’s quick.
Have u driven a Model 3? Unless you have a heads up display, don’t u look down at your current speedometer to check speed and take your eyes off the road? How is a sideways glance worse that a downwards glance?

1000 percent agree with you
Nothing about this car is dated. I work in the automotive industry and drive many cars daily. Every time I get my hands on a Tesla I think of how futuristic it still feels compared to other cars.
Agreed. Especially when after repeating how dated this car is, he said it still turns heads. That's not a dated design imo.
Spoken like a true Tesla stockholder.
I think the options are dated. Why can't you customize the interior color on a 6 figure car like this?? Where is like red, blue, etc? Carbon Fiber roof? These type of options should be available.
@@mrpmj00 haha. I don't particularly like them and I certainly wouldn't buy one if I was to spend that kind of money on a car.
@@jasonharris765 I would think adding interior colors as an option wouldn't be too hard for them to do as a mid-cycle refresh.

I think its a valid argument. Can't imagine any other car manufacturer getting away with using the same UI system since 2012.

It's in a category by itself. Greatest car ever made.
That depends on the metrics you use to measure it. Cars are a subjective thing, a great car to someone may be a terrible car to someone else. So when you say it's the greatest car ever made, you have to specify the category you rank it by.
I'd far prefer the 3. The S is a massive sled, I've never seen 5 folks in them anyway. I guess families need the space sometimes.

This car still looks amazing. I think tweaks here and there over the future would be fine, but don't fix what ain't broke. The Model S was and is a groundbreaking car with a sleek and defined look, no point messing with that.
I actually think the style looks great! I do not see a need to change something that is already great. The interior could use an update though.
The design has to change and even Tesla knows this. The market and design evolution and perception demand it.
quote: "But in a segment that prioritizes freshness, visually, the Model S is anything but."
Have you *looked* at those other refreshed cars competing in this segment? Most of them are from ultra-stodgy German companies, and they have all the style and character of a cinder block.
quote: "This touch screen that was once hyper-futuristic back in 2012? Well, now it's starting to look a little bit dated."
Oh?? Dated compared to what, I wonder? Is somebody else shipping cars now with a bigger screen? Let me know, because I haven't seen that.
Very idiotic. I mean, look at BMW, using the same design for their interiors since 2006.
I don't agree about that screen being dated
So what's a newer thing to do or replace it with?
I think even today is still one of the most beautiful cars on the road
It aged fairly well.
I wouldn't call it Beautiful at all. I'd call an S class beautiful. I'd say this looks nice but that's about it.
This is still one of the prettiest cars on the market. Literally no need to change it's shape.
Yes there is.
IMHO, the Model S is still one of the sexiest sedans out there. If it was cheaper I would‘ve opted for a Model S instead of a Model 3.
But I‘m happy neverthereless.
Buy a used one with autopilot it’s really cheap
the only thing that look dated is, sorry to say, you.
but also sorry to say, you can't get a refresh.
yes. no refresh needed. simply a stunning car period
I hope they don't update the interior because it doesn't need updating. If they do, it's only going to get worse since they'll eliminate more things so it becomes more basic like the Model 3 interior.
Model 3 interior is amazing. Especially the Ultra White
For you the design is dated, the board is dated. Dated compared to what? To the old model of the same car? Let's change things just to change them
Florin Dascalu dated compared to the Model 3. Should be obvious. The Model S doesn't have adjustable seat belts and no storages in the doors.
My car gets software updates via WiFi ugh so outdated
Mercedes EQC has a dated interior from start. Wait eight years and do a review of that.
0:49 What competition?
I totally disagree with you. It's your opinion that the exterior and interior is dated but for me, it's the Pinnacle of design.
please Tesla, do not change the touch screen nor remove the gauge cluster on the S and X so it matches the 3 when both get refreshed on 2020
It's an ignorant reviewer who confuses styling with design. It's the same kind of ignorance that believes upgrading a radio that's integrated with an ECM and a tablet is an advacement in automotive technology.
If "freshness" is important, the reviewer should shave, get plastic surgery and a new wardrobe.
P Schmied wow damn u just ended this mans career 😂
at least start by brushing his teeth...
Porsche design is 40+ years old, because they got it right the 1st time. Just like Tesla
As he said, "Still turns heads".
I love the Model S the way it is. The design was so well conceived from the beginning that it doesn't need a refresh.
The first half of this review has been brought to you by CNBC,...
no talk of the performance numbers with the new motors?
I specifically got the raven as I feel this will be the last refresh before the next complete overhaul of the model. There are rumors that it will be a lot like model 3 and I don’t care for it. I love the way the model S is now.
I am planning to buy 2020 model S but I am worried the body style gets old soon. Does anyone know if Tesla redesigns the model S soon? great video.
What is the range when fully loaded?
Do you think you can drive from Los Angeleno to Las Vegas in one full charge?
Great job. It is one of the fair and balanced tesla review i have found in youtube. Many traditional car reviewers i think, struggle to have balanced view on tesla because they are so used to reviewing traditional ICE vehicles and Teslas are different on so many different levels.👍
here i am wondering if you could open the roof, since i wasn't able to find that option in the showroom
I hate to say this but Teslas are like smartphones. The fanciest combustion engine cars are like BlackBerry, they're nice, but they aren't smartphones... And y'all remember what happened to blackberry when it didn't get with the program.
This car is beautiful... is painful we in Africa can't get it... yet
this is the best car in the world for Me
You can if you've got a lot of money 😃
Nothing in this video about pricing. Has that been released yet, and when is the release date for the vehicle? Is it ready for purchase now?
Just go to the Tesla website and price one yourself. This particular model has been out since 2012.
I still want one! Not dated. Timeless
Honestly, this is my favorite model from Tesla by far, it’s simple yet beautiful. I wish I could afford one of these.
Wait, so you want a smaller screen, or a larger screen?
Amazing how reviewers keep saying its dated but yet the Model S is STILL better than anything else. People who get in mine are blown away about how futuristic and great performance it has.
Does any other manufacturer have anything close? Not hardly.
Complain about unchanging looks in this car and drool over the unchanging Porsche models. Those cars have looked the same year after year. It's all good though. Both companies will continue to sell despite criticism.
What about the build quality/panel gaps/paint job? I heard Tesla was working very hard on improving that.
They use batteries...nothing eco friendly about that. Also please remember alot of people die or get sick mining cobalt, nickel, etc for these cars.
@@jasonharris765 batteries are recyclable and dont produce N02 or C02 when running, 98% of cobalt comes from copper and nickel mines not these chil labor cobalt mines people keep think tesla sources their cobalt from, when is the last time you hear of a battery spill in the gulf? A bad One has been going on for the past 15 years unknown to the public because the oil company vastly how much oil was spilling...
Tesla is pushing for sustainable energy, with sustainable energy you can use as much plastic as you want and not warm the earth, however disposal is another problem.
Miguel lopez use as much plastic as you want? Are you nuts, plastic comes from oil, if you want that plastic, those oil tankers need to keep moving around.
Jason Harris batteries are fine, the materials can get recycled once mined.
Their design philosophy is similar to German VW group and their constant iterative updates is a trait of them being a computer on wheels. This is an aspirational car for many. Truly revolutionary product.

Not "the same old battery pact", they did gradually increase it from 85kwh to 100kwh
Pleas do the range test at constant 90 or 110kmph (60-72 mph) speed, can he really go atlast 350 mile?
at that speed range would probably be 310 miles.
Yea, car is damn heavy, like a tank.
@@George_Shonia nah the real problem comes air resistance and Tire friction. Id this thing we're driving at 25mph down the road it could probably go 800 miles on a single charge.
Oh yeas ofcourse, but if air temperature is high than range also increases due to low resistance of air mass
apart from putting the screen horizontally I don't see what you would change?
It's sad that this "dated" interior looks the best compared to newer Tesla car models.
It looks gorgeous. It doesn't need any refreshes or updates. Very few car makers get the proportions and the lines right. Tesla is one of them.
Which competition?
The only reason the touchscreen looks dated is because the Model 3 exists. People I know who have owned both the S and the 3 like the landscape oriented screen of the 3 better. This is why an interior update similar to the 3 is in the works, according to leaks.
Such a beautiful car. I am still in love with my 2016 S...
Interior is dated? I'm sorry, have you seen a screen that big on other cars?
The interior is dated. One big screen doesn't change that. Very silly comments on this video.
what... 1:48. It’s all wheel drive just like the Model 3, The rear motor has more power than the front, so not sure where that came from.
Isnt a refresh coming soon for the model s?
No.
We bought an S model in 2015 and just ordered a new one because no other sports sedan beats the Tesla Model S when you consider price, style, performance, maintenance cost and economics. 370 miles on one charge and no gas cost?! Unbeatable!!
As Someone who often travels all the way from Porto to Lisbon, and Porto to Algarve the 375 mile range, is more than an welcome addition , and it's one of the main reasons why I looked at Tesla over the upcoming Audi GT tron
My house in Maine is over 300 miles away and that was my apprehension from buying one of these . People need range so what’s the reason it took this long to get this type of range ?
What is the trip, start and destination, to ur house in Maine? No specifics but town to town. Bet there is a Supercharger somewhere along the way. Also, battery density advancements take time so increased range takes time.
That wood trim looks horrendous, and it seems that they dropped the carbon trim option from their website.
You compare to Audi BMW yes the are changed outside but inside same old thing 20 years ago ,what the point to change outside iff you don't change inside.
IS that enough to distance itself from the competition?!?!?!! WHAT COMPETITION?!
Great review. Despite the car design looking on the old side, the technology is not. I would buy this car without hesitation. Still the original, ground breaking EV on the market.
Did you drive this in Indiana by any chance?
I think this car needs a new interior (horizontally oriented screen would be really nice, because it offers a better layout for content and all that stuff), new rear lights (because current ones simply don't match the front end and those single LEDs there just look cheap), new tech (heads-up display is a must-have IMO - try it once and you will never want a car without it; and 360 cameras system - maybe not as fancy as new BMWs have but at least cheap yet useful Infinity kinda thing), leave the front end untouched and please leave an option for carbon fiber interior elements for non-performance models - and there you have it - a perfect car
Tesla great car, just don’t get involved in a fender bender because it may take 6 months and probably $15k to fix it.
“Fanboys” is a term used by the weak minded because they can’t make a coherent argument against any points made by knowledgeable Tesla owners. Congrats on your Weak Minded Club membership. 👍
Zoya Spencer I’m sorry, my computer is slow, but not broken. Does that mean I should keep it when I need to do high usage things?
The interior of the Model S is definitely one of the most futuristic ones ever. The competition looks obsolete compared to the Tesla’s display functionality, quality, etc. Tesla is 20 years ahead of the competition...

CLASSIC. NO SWOOPS, DENTS, ODD CREASES OR FLOATING ROOF TO DATE IT.
Nowadays you have software changes rather then body changes on a car. Why change something that’s perfect functional outside
The person to figure out a solution to all those smudges on the touchscreen should be awarded a Nobel prize.
Doug Garet it is not in your eye peripheral, you have to look away when it’s at the side not just for the speed but for even the simplest things: when you wanna set the AC; changing the steering position; even the freaking wipers. I like the future but I like it to be practical
Great review! Can't wait for the refresh coming soon.
Let's not complain about that styling of this beautiful car. There are not that many model S's on the road so whenever I see one I'm in awe as well as others taking a look at it.
Some of the complaints just sounded like complaints for the sake of complaining. This car looks gorgeous inside and out. Yes, the seats could be updated, but overall it’s amazing.
I like that they focus resources on substance instead of style. It looks good and that's good enough for me. (just too darn big in my case) Torque steer would bother me but they might be able to mitigate that over the air too.
How much does it cost? That information is crucial in a review. How is the nose isolation. Teslas typically do not match other luxury sedans in that.

This car, built first 7 years ago and had even back then a 17” touchscreen. This is so far into the future, it is so forward thinking from Tesla and this guy says the design is dated? The exterior of the model S after the facelift in my opinion looks better than a mclaren or lambo. The futuristic styling in the headlights for example is beautiful. And if you move to the interior it gets better. A 17” touchscreen that is as good as an iPad? Who the hell can say that is dated? Not a single car manufacturer after the 7 years this car has been out has managed to make a screen even close. Case closed
