I rebuilt my 401 diesel without taking the tractor apart. That was mainly because I have no shop and had to resleeve the block right out by the barn. Luckily, the weather held and I was able to finish the whole project without getting snowed or rained on. My engine broke number 2 cylinder off down inside the block. That was because the guy I bought it from was not a mechanic and had been into the injection pump before he knew he needed to prime the fuel system. Then, the tractor spent the winter on its left side in a creek over the previous winter. It has been a real interesting project and is my favorite machine, now.
