    Guys, I understand cost is an important factor, but 265 provides a backup of atleast 6-10 days without always on display with small number of workouts and if u compare that to an apple watch, it surely is a breakthrough for garmin to provide such a battery backup with amoled display. Secondly, everyone does praise MIP displays of 255 n 955 but when you will use 265 or 965, you will not be able to go back to MIP again coz those colors are so vibrant. Plus, since 255 n 955 are older models than the new amoled ones, soon garmin will focus more on the new ones for updates. May be features are similar bw the mip n amoled models but the amoled seems more fluid when you scroll thru menus.

    • @theghostofpcs2391
      @theghostofpcs2391 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The 255 is practically half the price of the 265, and my 245 still got updates last year. This probably wouldn't even be a discussion if the title said 'amoled', because the 265 is a great watch (although I'm not a fan of the flashy UI).

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think all of your points are valid. But take me as one of the very few people that have used and lived with an AMOLED screen and still gone back to MIP. (I know, I’m not normal) And I don’t think people are going back to MIPs but I also think AMOLED is overrated.
      Also, within this video, when I switch to battery saver mode it jumps from 3-4 days all the way up to 22 days. Pretty impressive.

    • @rohanarora85
      @rohanarora85 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@mlegrand true that, well MIP is cost effective and people mostly prefer that when it comes to running under sunlight. MIP does provide more battery too.
      regarding the battery saver, it jumps to 22 days coz it shuts off the main battery consuming component after amoled i.e the heart rate sensor..

    • @rohanarora85
      @rohanarora85 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mlegrand and i noticed the heart rate sensor works kind of better during always on mode rather than the gesture mode...the sensor somehow goes into standby as and when the screen shuts off and works randomly, when u turn the wrist to switch on the gesture it takes almost 10-15 secs to get an accurate reading...

    FR255 is the best value, if found with a significant discount.
    I could find the FR255 for 250€ and the FR265 for 450€.
    They are almost identical (same chipset and dual band GPS), the major difference being the 265’s LED display. But if found for 250€/250$, I would say the FR255 is the best value watch. The LED display upgrade isnt worth paying 200€ or 200$ extra. That’s why I bought the FR255.

    • @theghostofpcs2391
      @theghostofpcs2391 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I agree. The 265 might be great, but it's too expensive to be called 'best value'. The same price gets you a forerunner 955 or fenix 7, which are both better overall.

    I've had mine for around 9 months now (or however long it has been since release) and it absolutely has everything a regular person could ask for. I feel like some of the AMOLED diss comes from people who never used this display technology. Sure, you do have to charge it more frequently, but it charges quickly. I charge it every 4-5 days after waking up and by the time I finish my shower and breakfast it's full or almost full; that's with at least a 30-minute outdoor run every day, with the GPS setting turned to SatIQ.

    I don't understand the AMOLED thing. Especially if you want the battery to last longer, the screen should be turned off as much as possible. Never had a problem with the MIP screen. Everything can be seen very well in any conditions.
    Hopefully Garmin FR will go back to MIP screens. I have been using FR for 7 years. I think I could upgrade my 245 to a newer one, but it seems that I have to wait, because the price is much too big for the 265. And I agree with the others that the best value is the 255.

      It seems that the 255 and 955 are the last forerunner watches with the MIP display. I think the MIP will survive only in models such as Instinct or perhaps Fenix. Otherwise, Garmin would choose a different labeling, not the 2xx and 9xx series.

    i have been using the 265 since sometime now...tbh the battery life with an amoled display is just exceptional...the UI is quite alright though it lags only when you use an intensive watchface otherwise its fluid.
    The only flaw that I find in this watch is the heart rate sensor or probably their software for it. I have complained about the same on their forum as well, the sensor is just laggy when there is no activity or even when there is, it takes time to pick the right beat. It is an expensive watch and a user expects the main thing to work accurately coz of which all the other data works.

    • @mlegrand

    In Canada, the 265 costs 600$. This is really too expensive I find. Fortunately, I was able to get a huge reimbursement amount from the company I work for. Aside the high price, I love my watch in almost every way except the look that could be more elegant for someone that wears the watch every day. Another aspect to improve is the size of the screen bezel. The next iteration of that model should be as good as the bezel found in the Venu 3.

    I have the FR 255, and I don't think the price difference is worth it just for the AMOLED screen. The battery life gives me 37 hours with GPS only, which is considerably more than its AMOLED-equipped counterpart

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've been wearing non-AMOLED watches recently and 99% of the time, it's not a noticeable issue. Yes, the screen isn't as bright or sharp but it's readable in direct sunlight and that's huge. Given that the price and battery life on the 255 is significantly better, I'd say that's the better 'value' overall from Garmin. Good call on snagging that watch Alex and thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    I am planning to buy a watch and am super confused between Apple Watch series 9 and garmin 265.
    I feel Apple Watch will be less and garmin a bit too much😑
    I am preparing for multiple half marathons and have an active lifestyle where I swim, do some weight training.
    There are times when due to work you cannot continue to train and for those periods I think garmin just feels demotivating😅
    But anyways, if you have any suggestions or if you plan to have a comparison on accuracy and battery life etc. that would be great!

      Thanks for providing a little back story. That helps. I was thinking about this on my run. If I didn't do YT videos about watches, I'd probably go for something like the 265. It's a solid option. I might even go for an AWS9 depending on how much training I was doing. So I think I'm similar to you in a lot of ways.
      To make things more confusing, Apple almost always updates their watches in September. I'd probably suggest waiting until the update to see if anything they announce appeals to you. I do think an Apple Watch might be a great balance between being a smarter smart watch and still enough data/health tracking for a few half marathons. 👍

    I recently purchased a 265, and the three buttons on the left side have a clicky feel and function consistently. However, the back button on the right side of the watch face feels squishy and only responds when pressed down firmly until it clicks. I'm wondering if this is a deliberate design choice or a quality control issue. Given that the button resembles those on the left in style, I'm inclined to think they should all share the same tactile response and activate upon being pressed.

    THE SCREENS ARE SO SHARP!
    Curiosu, the "no gps" mode, is it actually no gps? As in there isn't a more substantial battery drain during workouts? Or is that battery drain associated with more accurate HR data?

      "No gps" mode. Heart rate tracking should still be going so it might drain the battery a bit more than standby. I don't know for sure. I'd have to do some testing. Enjoy your board game buddy!!!!

      Garmin has it's own Garmin Connect app which has pretty comprehensive activity tracking metrics. It'll also show sleep, steps and other stuff in here but it is different than Apple Health. It's a bit more sports and recovery focussed. If you switch to Garmin, there will be things you will miss from the Apple Watch. But the same goes the other way. Tricky call. Hi Matt could you do a 165 v 265 comparison. I have small wrists so please compare them both on yours. I have Apple Watch 9. But the HR monitor is very patchy and I prefer garmin health app. So I use Apple for day to day and I have a garmin forerunner 50s which I use for my 2 runs a week not ideal but it works for me. Now I want to upgrade my garmin for the 165. But would be interested to know your thought. Thanks.

      Yeah, I am planning to review the 165 in a few weeks. I’ll try to compare it visually to the 266 somewhere within that initial review. The 265 does come in a smaller size option which you might like but I’m guessing the 165 will have everything you want. I think it’d be cool to make a 165 vs 265 separate video but it’ll take some time to get all of this done. ✅ 👍
