Hi Kait! Not sure if I’m carb intolerant but I do notice I do well with digestive enzymes. Maybe I’m not producing enough to help digest my food. I know I use to have low stomach acid from drinking a lot of sodas when I was younger. ACV helped so much. 😃
Yes I do. Gurgling tummy, gas and weight gain (not bloating.) I discovered this around 15 years ago when my husband dictated what we would purchase from the grocery store- 90% high carb foods. If I ate more fatty foods, I lost weight. The exact opposite with high carb foods.
3 days into starting keto diet to try to reduce inflammation, fatigue, gut issues etc, I started to suspect carbohydrate intolerance. The difference in energy levels and mental clarity that I felt from the get-go was my main indicator. Also I had quite a violent gut reaction to using erythritol as a keto sweetener... haven't tried any others. I have an allergy to alcohol. I'm also generally sugar intolerant. Anyway, I decided to look up whether carb intolerance is a thing and low and behold. My mother was also sensitive to many foods including grains, legumes etc and chronic fatigue/fibro runs in my family. I've tried all manners of diets, cut out so many different kinds of foods and have just grown so frustrated with not making all that much progress. The keto thing so far seems to be hitting the right spots. Looking forward to how it feels 6 months down the line.. and maybe doing some tests with different kinds of 'sugars'/carbs to see what I react to. Maybe all of them.
Thank you for this video. People tell me it’s not healthy to be on keto. I’m limiting my carbs because when I eat them my stomach goes crazy for days. I feel energetic with low carbs! Thanks for the link also!
So true. Most of my family members always tell me that keto it's not healthy and so on and so forth. I just don't listen to them. keto has improved my health so much. Never felt any better. And never gonna go back to my unhealthy habits before. Ever!!
I get very tired and will gain weight very easily with carbs. If I eat carbs I get hungry and want to eat constantly. That's why no diet ever worked for me. I'm on IF and keto lost 30 pounds. I'm not hungry all the time and that keeps me on track. Thanks for the info!❤
I actually realized I'm carb intolerant after learning about the importance of protein from you. I upped my protein intake and lowered my carbs. Now when I eat higher carbs my sugar and energy crash a lot faster
Dang, I have zero copies of AMY1A. I have been exploring eating mostly meat and I feel so much better. I haven't had grains in 5 months, but recently removed all plants as an experiment. This explains so much.
I have never knew i suffer carbs intolerance till i focused on my symptoms, it is not sever but totally inconvenient, thank you so much for the vid now i know what to do ❤❤
Thank you for this. At last I feel like someone understands me! The genetic explanation is so helpful. I do have a threshold for carbs and now I know why. No more struggles trying to eat "normally". Thank you!
I have had bloating and gas my entire life, until I went carnivore. I can barely tolerate 1/3 of a medium avocado or an ounce of broccoli, but not at the same meal. Even with that small amount, I will still experience some bloating. I assume my issue is FODMAPS, as life is so much better without them. Sadly, at age 65, I need to supplement with multiple minerals and vitamins. I have been making my own bone broth and/or meat broth for many years now, but it seems that my gut will never heal. As more people learn about the dangers of carbs at a younger age, they may avoid unnecessary suffering as they age.
When i eat carbs, my belly makes sounds, i fart like hell, i sometimes have cramps.... When i eat only meat, my stomach says nothing, feels nothing, soundless, and i dont fart at all almost..
Thank you for the educative segment. It was heartwarming knowing that I may be carbohydrate intolerant although I experience fewer of the symptoms you mentioned Now I know
This is the first time I heard about being carb intolerant, which I am. I'm also O blood type, which might be another factor. I love tasty carbs but pay the price each time i consume them😿. Also around my cycle my body rejects them even more. This all makes so much sense. Thank you!! 😘🙏🙌
If you read into the blood type diet, it says type O should be meat heavy and avoid grains. I'm type O as well and I have really bad side effects when eating carbs. Shortness of breath, bad gas and bloating, inflammation, fatigue...
@@cassie7950 The blood type diet is nonsense. According to it, I should be vegetarian. I do TERRIBLE on vegetarian and vegan diets. Bloating, gas, heartburn, constant hunger. No thanks.
I'm mostly keto heaver on meats eggs goat cheese Greek yogurt. I can tolerate some greens olives beets kimchi avocado and nuts, but get bloating and irritable bowels eating asparagus broccoli kale spinach beans and such. I do really enjoy making almond/ coconut flour waffles with eggs, vanilla and heavy whipping cream and butter topped with greak yogurt and raspberries blackberries! very satisfying and yummy!
Hey thank you so much for this video, I didn’t know that carb intolerance was a thing, I bloat and have acid reflux when I have sugar and mostly carbs so this makes sooo much sense to me thank you !
For me, it is grains, legumes, starchy veggies and dairy that give me problems… Lethargy, bloating, ravenous appetite, brain fog and GAS (especially with dairy)! No one in their right mind should be anywhere near me after I eat ice cream LOL! I think I’m the perfect candidate for a keto or carnivore approach to my diet 💕
I think I have this. High water fruits work well with me. As long as their ripe. I’ve no problem with sugars(which are a carb) but complex starches make me feel bad. I’ve thought I was crazy because people say only gluten causes this.
Yes, I am carb intolerant! I assumed it was an age thing, which perhaps it's related to some degree. I think I "feel" those symptoms more as I'm aging (I'm 58 now) but appreciate being able to pinpoint what's going on and what foods I should avoid and foods I can enjoy for good gut health. Good video; great information! ❤️🌹 Thanks, Kait! 🌹
Explains a lot about my bloating. As a triathlete I eat a lot of carbs and feel dreadful and bloated as a result. Low carb is the way to go I think. Thanks for the video
I’m trying to see if I’m carb intolerant now! I did the Elimination Diet & gained weight - like, a lot of weight. 8 lbs in about a month despite working out, running & not drinking alcohol. So, I’ll be doing hardcore keto for about 10 days, then eat something heavy in natural sugar (ie a banana). If I crash, burn & get bloated like I think I will, then … guess it’s low carb for life! I’m just so sick of working out & trying to eat right, only to be bloated as all get out & immensely tired.
I have figured out I am carb intolerant by the symptoms you described. I am also a type 2 diabetic. I restarted keto about 2 weeks ago and I’m struggling to stay in the zone. I’ll eat 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast and meats and cheeses or homemade Seafood salad on cheese, and trick myself into saying “fish tacos!” But umm, no. I am a big foodie and I need foods with a lot of flavor to keep me from craving. I do eat veggies, and I know which ones are the wrong ones to eat from many nutrition classes. I am finding it hard to stay motivated. Any suggestions?
I believe you can allow up to 50 net grams of carbs - at least a few times a week if not daily - without blowing things. Just avoid refined carbs. Keto is too restrictive in the long haul if you don’t allow yourself a tiny bit of flexibility.
Can you become carb intolerant and/or heal it? I have insulin resistance and I often gain weight instantly after high carb meals thus I’m more into lower carb lifestyle
I think i might have it I've had bad nausea bloating, gass pritty bad for 2 years couldn't figure out how it happened then went keto went away in 3 days but i would like to know how to fix it
No, I haven’t heard of Carb intolerance, I been told low blood sugar. What’s the difference? I can’t eat sugar corn or gluten so it could be C.I. What do you think?
My glucose has been lingering around 60 between meals.. I'm chronically tired, spacing out, feeling sick. I have a doctor's appointment for the beginning of May but wanted to see if you had any insight.. I had to cut back on how long I intermittent fasted. Even in between meals it gets this low.
This is not entirely a Carbohydrate issue. Anyone who has these symptoms definitely has blood sugar issues. The are likely to feel the same symptoms after eating fruits.
Just wondering if fructose malabsorption stems from the same issue as carbohydrate intolerance. Also could you do a video on whether or not to count fructose carbs if you don't already have a video on that? Thanks for all you do!
Don't eat that! I know Fructose ruins the gut lining= leaky gut occurs...no fruits is her recommendations, no carbs and 2x fats with 1x Proteins made with organs & meats. See Dr. Zsophia Clemen's on Dr E Berg & Bio-Hackers interviews. It'd be cool Kait if your had her on since she's proven to resolve Epilepsy & "most" AI! Hi Kait. I'm new to your channel. Have you heard of a correlation between gall bladder removal and how it completely changes how you digest food? I know that gall bladder issues tend to run in the family and I wanted to know if that you can be genetically predisposed to having digestive issues.
You really have to watch the fatty foods that you eat after a gall bladder removal as it is the place that processes fat. Stay away from bad oils like canola, corn and substitute for coconut, avocado.
Why why WHY IS low carb always the answer! I am trying to not eat meat or dairy. So it sucks to eat low carb w/o these options. I don't want to eat a low carb diet. I will just be fat if that's the case.
I've been on 'carnivore' over a month now. All but a week everything I eat goes straight through me. I was told to expect this at first as it was a detox of my body. How long should I expect this??
Yep, I have this. Testing shows I have those caveman genes, I cannot eat grains, carbs at all. They make me sick, especially vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower or anything in that family. It makes me sad, as I love all those veggies.
I was doing keto and losing weight but when I got blood work done I had high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Like through the roof high. I was told to eat more vegan so I started eating eating beans and lentils. I feel like I'm bloated again. I have PCOS and Hypothyroidism too.
Do you have any of the symptoms of carb intolerance?
Hi Kait! Not sure if I’m carb intolerant but I do notice I do well with digestive enzymes. Maybe I’m not producing enough to help digest my food. I know I use to have low stomach acid from drinking a lot of sodas when I was younger. ACV helped so much. 😃

I am a fat making machine. Did the cracker test and had my DNA done. I definitely carb intolerant.
All the symptoms I have makes sense except I lose my hunger instead of getting hungry
This explains a lot...when I eat carbs, I feel terrible.

I don’t think blood type plays a role in carbohydrate intolerance. My blood type is A-, and I experience carb intolerance.
