    I always thought you used MIDI CC live. I even figured out how to use LFOs the MIDI CC control without a DAW. You're so inspiring. :)

      @toskabyss  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've done a little bit of CC. I got the Nord Drum 3p M4L device for Ableton from The Ableton Drummer and the possibilities started blowing my mind th-cam.com/video/oIUpxisgMZ4/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUVbm9yZCBkcnVtIDNwIG1heDRsaXZl
      ALSO! I figured out how to do program change with Ableton and I think there is huge potential there to having a sequencer change your drum kit while your hands are full.

    So cool that you're sharing ND3P stuff now 🙂I particularly like your concept of having 2 pads with a similar sound but with different decay/pitch settings. I have to incorporate this more into my own kits! Looking forward to seeing more ✨

      Thanks! I actually learned how to make those heavier kick/bass sounds on pads 1 and 4 from your How to Play Metal Industrial Beats video. I will tend towards square waves over triangles and sines for those extra harmonics!

      @JannisLeWolff 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@toskabyss I agree! But I must say that the most simple sine wave kick on The Nord Drum can sound really massive as well if you add some good amount of Drive, which is a sound I sometimes enjoy a lot!

      oh dude you absolutely should! I forget after watching most of your synth stuff that you are a drummer as well. It is so much fun and it totally switches up your approach to rhythm in terms of keys vs pads. Also, the velocity sensitivity on it is really class as well. Cannot recommend this enough and it is 100% my desert island synth.

      @@toskabyss oh totally, it’s kinda funny cuz I started out doing drums but most of my time nowadays is spent around synths 😅 After seeing your stuff I’m considering doing a hybrid live setup for gigs with the Nord and some cymbals, kinda like Nord Drummer. Love his stuff too!!

    Dude, You are the only one to explain this unit like this. Ive had mine for 3 years and hate to admit that the lack of clear manual and no help of Nord I haven't given it a lot of time to learn it fully. You explained all of this so simply! Not sure why you couldn't have written the manual for this thing!
    Wondering if you have had the same gripes?
    - I have sent mine to Clavia 3 times for pad repairs. the wires seem short for floating pads and thus pulls and shorts the wires.
    - I wish there were knobs instead of shift 1 nob actions. annoying.
    - with there were a slightly larger screen and wish the Note number change was actual notes not Midi numbers that correlate with notes.
    - Wish the Reverb and delay were separate on the interface. Not sure why the reverb and Delay are in seperate sections when editing different parameters for it.
    - Annoying it not USB midi.
    - Like another commenter said, sucks you need to sacrifice a pad for the foot pedal.
    - Unit too sensitive. When in loud situations the pads trigger. and the pad triggers when the pedal is plugged in and run through midi. definitely not a live unit.

      Thanks! A trick that worked for me was I challenged myself to only use the Nord Drum to make music for a month and it revealed all of it's secrets to me 😅
      I share some of your gripes. I grew up playing drums in metal and hardcore bands so I had to change my playing style. I had one pad go on me withing the first 30 days of purchasing a b-stock one and the company sent me a brand new one.
      I would love even just one or two more knobs that could be assigned to whatever parameters you like - however, you can connect a midi controller like keystep 37 and control whichever cc values you like. That is nice!
      I would love an assignable out that I could push either any of the channels or reverb delay. Something like the model cycles/samples that lets you assign outputs to the headphones but not the main outs.
      I feel you on the USB but I've migrated all my stuff to 5pin because I was having all sorts of sync issues with my different usb adapters.
      Yeah I really wish they treated the kick input as a 7th channel.
      It took me a little bit to dial in the sensitivity to get it to my liking. I'm going to be making a video about hand playing and I'll explore those sensitivity options.

    Cool, been looking into this one... only thing I felt awkward about is that it takes up one pad to use a kick pedal... is there no way to avoid that? it seems like an amazing synth for an acoustic drummer like me looking into electric drums! 😃

    • @toskabyss
      @toskabyss  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No way to avoid it unfortunately. You are going to sacrifice that first pad with the kick. HOWEVER, I think it is sort of cool because you can use your hand and foot at the same time to come up with some cool rhythmic stuff. Its lovely, but you could also get a 2nd Nord Drum and chain them.

    this sounds so good. im interested in an ND2 since I cant play proper sticks, but the prices are ridiculous. Do you feel the missing parameters in the 3 hold it back much in terms of synthesis? I want to make the weirdest sounds possible ...

    • @toskabyss
      @toskabyss  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I haven't done a lot of research on the ND2. Just looking at the specs it looks like it has less sound design features than the 3p. I may be wrong. But it also looks more expensive used than the 3p. Take a look at Red Means Recording's video - he did fantastic work without using sticks: th-cam.com/video/tQSN9ZTB0nc/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUdcmVkIG1lYW5zIHJlY29yZGluZyBub3JkIGRydW0%3D
      Also, out of all of the gear I've had (with exception to Make Noise) I think the ND3p has some of the best possibilities for wild and weird sound design.

      Im no drummer......but I got this because of its value compared to the ND 1+2
      I mainly use it as a drum module.....in the sense that most of my work is done in the Akai force or Cubase
      But I found it so amazing to be able to drum in what i wanted , even if its slightly messy. Rather than mess around with midi. I know I could do this with the pads on my Force, but there is something about the way a stick hits the pad. Velocity changes are just different. Let's call then happy accidents

    it's a nice drum device; the hi hat sound quality isn't my favorite tone in the world, it's too bad the drum3p can't sample, shocking considering how expensive it is and there's no sampling. The roland hi hats will always take center stage in music culture, whereas, the nord drum hi hat sound is industrial and alternative, and probably never used by most people.

    • @toskabyss
      @toskabyss  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree, that is the one area I think I've struggled the most is with the hi hat sound. However, some of my favorite hat sounds are simple white note with a fast decay. I can get what I want out of it, but if given the option, I would certainly swap out a tr808 hat sample for sure. I feel like what it lacks with samples it makes up for in pushing the limitations. The simplicity of the device can be the con but IMO it is also the pro.
