    The imperfectness of the driving, the stalling of the car and the gritty sound effects makes this feel plausible. The convenience of his final escape is far fetched but you forgive it in favor of style. Tom's movies over this past decade are criminally underrated.

    • @thejanusproject32
      @thejanusproject32 4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      As far as I know, he has set the bar so high in terms of real stuff being done with him at the helm.
      The Top Gun 2 Trailer? I can't help that that is a play of his life. He is one of the few, the last of the real Mavericks of Hollywood where he does his own stunts, minimizes on CGI and makes it entertaining and real for the people he is performing to.

    • @dashrirprock
      @dashrirprock 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      While he does a lot of his stunts, I'd be shocked if they had him doing the driving in that wide-shot where we see his car thread its way through oncoming traffic. That was likely a professional driver, not because Cruise can't do it, but because what's the point? You're not going to see the actor's face, so the insurance company would never allow it.

    • @Devin007V8
      @Devin007V8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This is my second favorite car chase scene in any movie, my favorite chase scene is easily from the 1968 classic movie Bullitt with Steve McQueen.

    • @dashrirprock
      @dashrirprock 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Donald Trump I'm sure the press-releases say it's him; they're selling a movie. Cruise is impressive, but, no, he's not as capable of driving as ANY stunt double.
      The director or producers can die midway through a shoot and be replaced. The star cannot die (or get injured) because it will delay production. Some insurance companies will not allow movie stars currently filming from riding motorcycles on their own time.

    Love this car chase. McQuarrie is an underrated action director, kind of old school. Which is a good thing. It's a great to see a modern movie where the car chase seems to have been thought through on a shot by shot basis, and not just cobbled together in the editing room from a random mess of cuts. It's always clear where everything is in relation to the world around it, making the action easy to follow, but no less thrilling because of it. Knuckleheads like Olivier Megaton could learn a thing or two about directing from this scene.

      McQuarrie loves clarity in his action scenes. He gets it. One of the best moments of the chase is when the Chevelle glides into the back of a car in the tunnel and allows it to play out in the master. No unnecessary cuts.

    I loved the way they shot this chase. You could feel the raw emotion come through and had no music to distract you. The lead up to the chase was done perfectly too. Tom cruise rolling up in the 1970 Chevelle SS and just having a stare down with the detective built alot of suspense.

    I like the way the people at the bus stop close ranks around Reacher - even though they don't know what he may have done. That rings true; given the number of innocent people who have been killed by the police

    I loved this chase scene. But, I think if I wanted to be more understated during my investigation like Reacher wanted to be, I wouldn't be driving an immaculate red with black racing stripes 1970 Chevelle SS with a 454 big block a Hurst 4 speed and a cam so hot it could cook asphalt. Then again, no one ever made a car chase about the hero driving in an under the radar Toyota Camry.

    The sense of urgency of the scene the look on Tom Cruise’s face and the sound of a big block Chevelle.....what a rush so well done I can’t imagine how many takes to get these cars to continue through the whole sequence to make it look so seamless! IMO audiences can’t imagine the expertise in shooting and the skills of the stunt crews that make it look so damn easy!

  • @Randomturtletalk101

    Christopher McQuarrie really knows how to use film as a visual medium. The first 7 minutes of this movie is done without a single line of dialogue and yet you still know everything that's going on. Same thing here. There's maybe, what? Two lines in this whole sequence? Yet everything flows in such a way that's easy to follow and interesting. Everything relies on the actors performances and the incredible stunt work for this to work as well as it does. The lack of music accentuates the sound design and adds to the intensity. And seeing how much of the driving they're actually doing gives it a sense of realism you don't often get in your modern day blockbuster. And topping things off, it's a high stakes situation that's gripping from beginning to end that somehow, miraculously, manages to pepper in some humor without it detracting from the seriousness of the story. What a sequence. What a fucking film.
