    SO much great information. I'll have to watch this a few times to soak it all in. I love when things are put into historical context. When you mentioned women going to work and the skirts getting wider and necklines getting lower it made me think about how fashion and jewelry trends change together. I would be curious to watch more videos where you talk about some of the turning points like this.

    Funny how when women's hair got shorter in the Victorian era, the earrings got smaller, but in the 1920's, with the flappers and their short bobs, the earrings got longer. Just goes to show how perspectives change where style and fashion are concerned and the cyclical nature of it all.

    I can’t wait to hit the button to watch your videos ,you are truly so informative and soft spoken ,very knowledgeable ,I am really enjoying learning about these things ,Victorian Jewelry is something I really didn’t know much about until now ,I did read somewhere that prior to “The Diamond Engagement Ring” becoming the go to piece of jewelry to offer someone for engagement ,jewelry was only worn by Royalty and was also worn at night time because it was considered vulgar to wear such jewels during the day time ,I am sure you have heard this as well ,I am truly not sure how very true this is ,however still very interesting ,prior to the 1930’s I also read that a diamond was not offered as a form of engagement ,”A Diamond Is Forever” was started by the Debeers Corp. and oh what a successful campaign it turned out to be , today people seem to frown upon an engagement without a diamond ,thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us Jill I am truly enjoying each and every video ! So fascinating ! Xo

    • @JillMaurer
      @JillMaurer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lisa, I'm so happy you are enjoying my videos!I could swear that I did a whole video on the history of wedding rings and when diamonds came into play. I remember doing the video at some point in the past! Now I can't find i anywhere! DeBeers is absolutely the reason that we associate diamonds with engagement rings, and it didn't happen until the 20th century. Maybe I'll plan to do a new video on this topic. Thank you!! xoxo

    • @leeleelv
      @leeleelv 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jill Maurer I will go back and see if I can find that video but I definitely think it would be a great topic to talk about ,so many people are unaware on the truth about diamonds ,that they truly are not rare at all ,their value does not increase over time ,most people usually find out the truth about diamonds when they are put in the position to ever have to sell it ,you will never get back what you invested in that diamond. I loved this video in particular because I’ve never learned anything about Victorian jewelry ! Looking forward to more ! Xo
