- Silkworm is a classic side scrolling shooter, developed by Tecmo and first released for arcade in 1988. In 1989 it was ported to the Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and NES (1990) systems by The Sales Curve and released by Virgin Mastertronic.
Silkworm also spawned what many consider to be a spiritual successor to the game - SWIV.[citation needed] While SWIV was not a direct sequel, it followed the same core gameplay design of a helicopter/jeep team, albeit as a vertically scrolling shooter instead of a horizontally scrolling one. SWIV was described in the game's manual to mean both "Special Weapons Intercept Vehicles" and "Silkworm IV".
Played this in my early teens as the Jeep. Tw0 secrets I'll share:
- When that strange ship starts to combine, focus everything on the gray part before it combines and you get two bonuses in stead of one
- Shooting the statue at the end of Wave 5 for a few seconds (just as boss appears) will cause a special bonus item to appear for both jeep and helicopter.
-If you take too long to destroy the tank, it will eventually being firing an insane number of bullets at you and starting advancing on you. You'll die eventually.
Helicopter was for boys, jeep was for men. Great game
jeep also had better firepower
The jeep is my favourite!
Still works at the arcade center 🇬🇹😍
I remember when I was a kid going to 7-11 with my buddy I would play the jeep
Coming to Arcade Archives now.
I miss arcades
The Amiga version was indeed an upgrade regarding music + SFX!
I used to play this back in the day, and the drums in the TH-cam videos on the arcade version don't sound right to me. I'm not sure if it's an emulation issue, or maybe the drums were just crappier than I remember.
The Amiga one was amazing, had an atmosphere to it.
And then came SWIV.
FX only tho.
It's a question of point of view. Yes, title music that is a recreation of the level 1 music in the arcade is better. And yes SFX are far better than in the original with its little YM. But there is a big sacrifice for that : no ingame music. In SWIV, there are so much different sounds allocated on the 4 channels that it can justify the choice of SFX only. But in Silkworm atmosphere seems really empty imo.
Yeah, it was a GREAT upgrade considering there's no music on the Amiga version. Yeah.
Me recuerda a un amigo de infancia que siempre jugaba ese juego, y su mamá hiba a sacarlo de las maquinistas, en vez de irse a trabajar con su papá en la mecánica se la pasaba jugando, pasaba horas jugando en el jeep
The music on the NES version sounds better & the boss vehicles on it are a lot bigger too.
The Amiga version seems far superior to this.
Intro music was a remix of the Juno First theme.
No music during the actual game, just SFX.
Beefier SFX all round.
Incredible.
Amiga version is very nice regarding the amiga specs but it's not "far superior". Nostalgia factor is really important here. Arcade version offer so bigger sprites, and ingame music in each level. Yes the Amiga title screen music is a nice improvement of the first theme but it would have been better to enjoy while playing mybe with shorter sounds on one channel like a lot of other Amiga games.
@@iXien those BOOOOOMMMMMM were very satisfying though
@@JMDAmigaMusic Yes, I admit 🤩
The Amiga version is a great conversion of the arcade
I think the Amiga version had better music and sound effects.
@@edrice2621 Amiga version is nice, yes but sprites are really smaller and it can't have better music as there is no ingame music, only the first ingame music recreated of the arcade as title theme. Good SFX don't replace the lack of music (maybe in SWIV as there are so much different SFX allocated on the 4 channels, immersive).
Playing as the jeep, getting sh*tted on the entire game. Any1 beat this game as the jeep ONLY? 🤔
Black and white area, insane to pass
Great Game play if it is not TAS. Why you did not show 12 Wave ??
Wave 12 is a never ending wave. Just a loop of the same pattern of enemies over and over.
Gracias por el vídeo.
Impressive player well done

This looks dreadful for a 1988 arcade game!
No, it sounds dreadful for a 1988 arcade game.
that's a dope beat playing throughout the game.
