Pointing flagstones or patio slabs How to point using a damp mix of mortar

- In this video I show how I point patio flagstones or patio slabs cleanly to prevent staining and marks. By using a just damp mix that is wet enough to hold together it gets over the problem of having wet mortar on the slabs. It is a good idea to point the joints soon after laying the slabs as the pointing then adheres to the cement beneath Also make sure you put a full bed underneath the slabs don't be tempted to just put dabs down as this will always result in a failure later on.

Nice neat job Mike. I am also a big fan of dry mix. 35 years ago when I moved into my house, I layed a large patio using 3x2x2" thick slabs......I put these down on a dry mix, covered with plastic sheet to draw up the moisture.....25 year later when I replaced them with block pavers....not one slab had moved 👍👍👍. All the best

Thanks for watching
Well done mike

Thanks for the video. How would you point flagstone vertically like on a stair riser? Thanks in advance
I think you would need to make the mix just a little wetter, just enough so that it holds on a trowel
What sort of sand? Sharp sand? Soft sand? I always get confused with different types of sand.
