If you ever get a chance to visit the Tatra museum in Kopřivnice, you'd find that this company has manufactured in 20th century such a variety of machinery as trains, trucks (light and heavy), cars, snowmobiles etc. But somehow I can't remember anything agricultural, I might be wrong though, it's been about 20 years now, well worth.

Tatra were a company way ahead of the time and along with Skoda heavy engineering was one of the main reasons Hitler and the Nazis invaded the Czech Republic so quickly, lots of their engineering was far ahead of the Germans. The Tatra V570 design was stolen by the Nazis and made into the original VW Beetle. The reason behind the shape of this model was something called 'streamlining' was being tested in cars.

Now cars are a pile of plastic, cheap metal and a headache after 2 years. Some even quicker. And they’re all 4 cylinder turbos which is terrible. V8s and up are the best. Sad car manufacturers are steering away from the v8, ,10 and v12s.

    • @Gynkys

and jay also said that the engine mixes its oil with its fuel, explaining the white smoke
while it'd be a problem in normal cars if you saw this kind of smoke, in cars such as the miura and the more obscure 2-stroke trabant, which also mixed it's fuel with oil, its quite normal, and gives the car a specific oily smell

    • @mosipd
      @mosipd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+Gynkys No 4-cycle engine mixes oil with fuel, it just wouldn't run properly if it did. Instead, the 4-cycle engine in the Miura shares its crankcase oil with the transmission, as Jay pointed out at 10:10 in the video.

with old expensive rare carbureted engines it's usually wise to jet the carbs a little rich to help avoid the risk of leaning out and burning/breaking something. yes it does leave additional carbon deposits in the engine but that can be cleaned out for the cost of the gaskets whereas if you burn a hole through a piston, you're rebuilding the entire engine.

The VW beetle started out as an Idea Dr.Porsche had long before it was mass produced.
The concept was the peoples car. n.b. it was not communist, it was inspired by the model T ford. You put 4 adults in 2 bench seats and enclose them in the smallest cabin possible, that will also hold the wheels and as small an engine that can get the job done, and give it a shape that will have the least aerodynamic drag. Now the more of these you make the lower the price can be...Hitler liked the idea but modified it to if you give me your freedom, I will give you a car. n.b. this was at a time when working class people in Germany could not afford a car.
Of course this was a scam. The price he offered was far below the money anyone could build a car for, and by the time the factory was finished, the war started and the factory would make the kubelwagen a fuel sufficient car for the army.
The TATRA was always a larger more expensive 4 door car with a V8. this was something that could be made for the price they planned. And it had a tail-fin The shapes are similar because that is the sort of shape that gives you the most passenger room with the least drag. Niether car was a copy of the other.

@Skodaman2 The reasons VW lost were
1, the trial happened in Czechoslovakia ( the country were Tatra was located)
2, The shyster TATRA hired was competent.
3, The judge was not, he must have been some kind of a stupid @$$ hole.
4, Volkswagen had been a project of the NAZIs. There are photographs of Hitler at a rally inside a VW convertible giving the crowd the NAZI wave.
5, Do you know who financed the Volkswagen project? Maybe the Nazis put up some of the money, but Hitler and his pal, Rhinehart thought up this scam were a German who could not afford to buy a car would buy these stamps and if they ever got a full book of stamps, they could trade the book for a new people's car.
Before anyone ever did this, the war started, the factory had to make Kubelwagens for the army ( including officers of the Waffen S.S.) before long the 8th air force had bombed the $#*+ out of the factory. Therefore some Kraut who worked for the company that was created from the ruins of this NAZI factory may be listened to for a few minutes while he said that Dr. Porsche had been thinking about the people's car since the early twenties and Porsche had actually tested models of cars that looked like the VW in the wind tunnel in the 1930s, after that he was told to shut up and go think up an apology. If he did not, OK, he could be charged with contempt, and that evening he could Czech out the Prague jail, if he wanted to do things the hard way.
6, Any non-retarded person can see that the Tatras have a big tail fin on the rear and a VW does not, so the VW can't be a copy.
If you can contact Mr. Leno about this he may know experts on both marques of car who will back up my side of the story.
