    Most people don't even realize they're there half the time but you have to give SO MUCH credit to the Drummer's and the Bassist's that provide such an AWESOME Rhythm (I can never spell that word right) section for these guys to play and yet get none of the glory. They get no respect outside of the Blues world and THAT is a fact. I heard Bon Jovi make a shit remark once in a documentary "I'm not gonna go along with it because some Bass player's wife voted on it". Like the Bass is the shit-end of it all but trust me, a Blues guitarist has nothing but praise and respect for you guys. You are, TRULY, the "eggs in every omelette".

    Josh Smith and Bonamassa are a awesome guitar duo. This shows how really great musicians listen to each other and they know how to compliment the situation. These guys are a perfect example of what a mature musician is supposed to be.

    Fantastic.... must have watched it 50 times and am sure to watch it more. I love Bonamassa's compressed tone, (a few Albert Collins licks in there ) and then Josh releases his uncompressed super reverb tone with a ton of reverb, which to me is the holy grail of blues tones. Great playing by both and a pleasure to watch!!

    Nice to hear both guitarists fill their space in the song. Josh is new for me. I know Joe could scorch tune that like it was a halibut in a skillet on a Friday.. but he gives generous space. That is a guy people can love. *Josh masters the dynamic with subtleties and accent chops in great places.* nice to see Peace and Love in action.

    Joe plays fast: OH MY GOD ALL HE DOES IS SHRED

    • @johnbuell8035
      @johnbuell8035 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s because josh has great blues feel. When he plays fast there is still musicality in it. He has learned from the masters of the past but still has his own musical personality and style. Joe has great facility, but you get sick of the parroted Eric Johnson licks, and I don’t hear the musicality.

    • @DaveDexterMusic
      @DaveDexterMusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnbuell8035 And that there is subjective opinion, because I and clearly thousands upon thousands of others think Joe's blues feel is great. Here's an experiment for you: listen to a few long Joe solos and work out the percentage of time that he plays fast, "parroted Eric Johnson licks". I'm going to guess it'll be 10%, give or take. People just use his facility as a peg to hang their dislike from. Dislike away, but have a better excuse than "plays fast", because he most certainly doesn't only do that.

    • @johnbuell8035
      @johnbuell8035 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DaveDexterMusic Sorry, I just plain don’t like what I hear from Bonamassa. I won’t be analysing any long solos anytime soon. I’ve heard all I need to. Or want to. I don’t hear blues in it, I don’t hear feel and, most importantly, I don’t hear Joe Bonamassa - I hear his influences.
      If you enjoy it, that’s fine. Knock yourself out. But there’s no point in trying to convince me. Nor any need. You don’t need my approval to enjoy it.

    • @johnbuell8035
      @johnbuell8035 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I don’t need an excuse to dislike what I hear. It’s clearly a mistake to try to explain why to someone like you because you’re obviously a rabid fanboy who gets offended when someone doesn’t like their hero. You can think what you like about the music. Unlike you, I don’t care one way or the other what someone else thinks. You commented on people criticizing Bonamassa. I tried to explain why, because I fall in that camp. Clearly a mistake.

    As far as "battles" go, I'd much prefer to see a collaboration between Joe B and John M, in the same way that Steve Lukather and Larry Carlton work. Those two guys couldn't have more different styles or approaches, and yet they make some the greatest music together. Joe and John would no doubt approach working together in that way. While you're at it, why not throw Kenny Wayne Sheppard into the mix.

    I think Joe is progressively moving in a more stripped, pure blues approach, I emphasize progressively. Guys like Smith and Fletcher or JD Simo that he's played with in the past and currently have never really been about flash or guitar acrobatics so Smith IMO arguably has more style in his approach and that's illustrated here. With that said, as someone who didn't pay attention in the past, I'm really digging Joe's moves as of late.

    There really is no versus here. Each player has his style. Each style is different and unique but both incredibly enjoyable. I am more familiar with Joe and have heard him really tear it up, a lot more than he did here. As a former professional musician (drummer), it is always enjoyable to jam with colleagues. It is not a competition simply because of a pure love of music. Musicians are truly connected to their soul. Now they need some Eric Czar bass playing mixed in. I miss him.
