@@jsamc Well, at least you think you're well qualified... Funny you mention finger picking bluegrass because I play it...and it is phenomenal, but it's an art form, not a sport or in a competition with blues/rock/jazz/r'n'b/soul/funk/fusion etc. You think Jeff Beck - Eric Gales - Dave Gilmour - are overrated? Blues based rock guitarists like them cut their teeth listening to and copying bluegrass and delta blues. (And Hendrix) And I can tell you first hand that very few bluegrass players can do what they do - and vice versa - and the same applies to classical players. I would suggest to everyone, especially if you like blues-rock or Jimi Hendrix +, to listen to his body of work. He doesn’t have a bad, okay or so so album. They are all meaty and full. One can’t say that about many artists. Often their development has a trajectory of maturity in voice or mastery of their instrument. I've been fortunate enough to see Eric a few times at a local blues festival and I've been blown away every time. The first time, I couldn't believe I had never heard of him before. Definitely a shame he isn't a household name. Almost like blues' best kept secret. Amazing guy with an inspirational story and unmatched guitar skills. 🎸🔥
You have to love Gary's disposition in this performance. You can tell the reverance is there for a true Master. And also knowledge to be able to discreetly with a chord redirect him as we all know he needs sometimes. Like, Mr. Eric you know the theater closes in 20 minutes...... 😏🎸
He's actually not. That's the crazy part. His brother taught him to play the guitar upside down because his brother was left handed and he's just always played that way.

Eric was a great Choice by Gary, knowing Eric's entire family are nothing but prodigy's. His brother Manuel was the guy who taught me to just put the guitar down and finish school cause I would never be nearly as great as he was.....lol He didnt have to say it, he just played fills so well it defied all logic. The best way to promote the artists who inspire you is to tell everyone about them. Be that annoying person in the office, factory or field. Eric and Gar-Bear deserve it!
Not that Eric Gales has ever had an issue "playing out", but having seen many live videos, I get the impression he was feeling some fresh inspiration playing with GC's band. It doesn't hurt he is coming off some quality time with Joe Bonamassa in the studio, but they are contemporaries and I do not hear a lot of change in his playing as a result. It will be interesting to hear Eric's new album with what I expect to be stronger song construction and melody. I am hoping to hear a leap forward in where he jumps off for his solos. I really like his playing, but at times it feels like a show is a solo with almost unrelated songs interspersed. That is probably overly harsh, but it conveys my excitement to hear Eric was open with collaborating with Joe in the studio.
