I decided to compare the shopping experience of buying a graphics card from Aliexpress to Wish.com, just too see which is worse. The two infamous online retailers
I bought an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti from both websites.

I actually had a 1050 Ti Expedition OC for a bit over a year. Had a laugh when you thought it was fake just because it wasnt a Strix :-D

Gotta say, if you can get a 1050ti at that price that works well, then it's a pretty GREAT card to hold you over for a new one.

Lol I bought a gaming headset for $16 2 years ago and I'm still using it to this day (mic broke but it still is a great sounding pair of headphones)

I buy all my solder, BGA work station supplies for board level repairs off Aliexpress and have never had an issue.
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by Aliexpress. The shipping does take super long though.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff IKR! It is actually state subsidize shipping so nothing ships until the shipping container is filled. I have received shipments in as little as 10 days and as long as 9 weeks. Often times you can pay a little more and buy the exact same item from the same person on amazon and get the stuff in a couple of days. It is bettter to buy in bulk, i.e. smaller and more. you will almost always get a break in price and you would only have to restock once or twice a year. Flux, solder balls sleeving supplies etc.
Aliexpress sellers do come through pretty often, AE just doesn't vet their sellers all that well, so they will let scammers run rampant until they get enough bad reviews, wish just doesn't care unless the actual manufacturer complains I think. If you find weird SKUs sometimes they are for other markets. I think Linus tried to do this same exercise and wound up with a legit GPU, but it was a Mish mash of 2 other SKUs but was legit and made only for the Chinese market for computer cafes and arcades.
It really does say something about Ali when you try to get a fake GPU and end up with a legit one.
Conclusion: Asus made a 1050 Ti that looks and feels so cheap, you'd think it's a fake one.
oww... the good old 1050ti. Brings back memories haha. My first custom built pc (by myself obviously) had a G4560, MSI GTX 1050ti Gaming x and the MSI B250-m. I have never been hapier than when I pressed the power botton for the first time seeing that it was posting. I will forever be impressed how that small little beast has sooo much power. Thanks for the great memories (even tho these 2 GPUs look nothing like the MSI GAMING X version lol)
Mine had an RX580. Now I’ve upgraded to a RX6600 because it’s the easiest to get your hands on without having to be extorted

There actually isn't any 1050Ti below $100,- US on there, cheapest one is $114.70 US now (it's also a legit gigabyte 1050Ti by the looks of it, albeit a bit scratched. The seller does state it's used though so that's about what you can expect).

Some idiots also think Alibaba is the same as AliExpress.
@Nato Min Taobao is more like China Amazon. Alibaba is typically for finding Chinese manufacturers and Aliexpress is like Chinese ebay
Aliexpress is actually a decent source for certain stuff.
Especially older hardware like laptop boards and panels.

Personally, I've had mixed experiences with both Wish, AliExpress and also BangGood - with each of them, sometimes I got good stuff, sometimes I got scammed up the wazoo.
But yeah, Wish definitely wears the scam-king crown in comparison to the other two... for every dodgy scam on AlExpress or BangGood, there were at least four on Wish.
AliExpress wears the crown when it comes to properly refunding, though there have been some less-than-decent responses from them as well (mostly from my early days of discovering AliExpress; back then they didn't really seem to like dealing with scammed customers, but it's gotten better since).
Fast forward to 2021 and the 1050ti for that price is looking pretty good.

It is easy to distinguish, the real GTX1050Ti graphics card does not have a VGA display interface.

Aliexpress is a good alternative to buy PC components. Only thing you can't buy is a decent power supply. You just have to choose the sellers with a lot of reviews and sold items. TH-camrs intentionally pick items with 1 star review or 2 sold items.
Plot Twist: He knew all along and didn't want to throw away more money on a fake 1050 Ti.
I've found aliexpress to be very reliable, completely different from 5 years ago.
This video should be used as a case study for understanding False Equivalency, and Anchoring bias. Good job on correcting yourself.

i can totally understand the scepticism, I always buy from retailers like this with the same mindset, that I'm being scammed and am pleasantly surprised when I get a good deal and arent.
Ali express seems like it's generally good with a small chance to be scammed, whilst wish is a high chance of scamming with the hope that you wont.

I've assumed for a while now that everyone (at least a little techy) could tell at a glance which cards on these sites are fake and which ones are legit but I'm starting to doubt that now. I've always found it so easy to do. Maybe there's a knack to it? Is it like sexing a chicken?
Haha!! I can usually tell. This was jyst one GPU version from Asus that I didnt know of. Usually a quick Google can help verify.
