Before liquid cooling, you should cut an opening in the bottom of the case where the fans should be drawing air in and glue some nylon mesh over the hole, Giving the fans relatively unrestricted airflow while having some dust prevention and see how much that improves thermals.

Sounds like a cooling mod by drilling a few small air holes over the top of the fans would do a lot to help with those in game and stress load test temperatures. I would suggest using something in the 1 to 2 mm ( 1/8 inch ) size to drill out a small pattern of holes over the tops of the 2 fans that would really do good to lower the temps and give those fans some room to breath.

In my experience trying to repaste my PS4, I have discovered that applying regular thermal paste on an exposed CPU dye results in something called the pump-out effect. It's basically when the thermal paste starts oozing from the sides of the chip due to expansion and compression along with a lack of friction.
It doesn't matter how much paste you apply or how you do it it will always come out from the sides.
The solution is to use a higher viscosity paste or for a more robust solution, you can use thermal grizzly carbonaut.
I used the latter and worked like a charm.

What this told me is that for applications that max out the CPU/GPU, extra thermal paste and/or re-pasting or reseating your chips will not really lower chip temperatures, just as I expected. For 'regular' operations they might make your PC not work as hard with the fan, and you'll have less noise, but that's another story.

You shouldn't need much thermal paste. It sounds like there's a gap between the heatpipes and the CPU lid - something's preventing tight contact.

Not necessarily ideal but as the 'lid' is on the underside one could run the machine without it for hopefully better air flow.

Get a hole saw out and make some proper positioned air intakes coupled with some taller feet. That’s would be a great first test to see how you can maximise the current setup

I actually have the i9 8950HK S200H unit without the GPU and it absolutely crushes games. I use a egpu set-up. I turned it into a full sized gaming rig.

  • @yambo59
    @yambo59 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree with madmat below take that bottom panel off cut a rectangular hole and install a mesh vent so air can get to the fans, then put some raised feet on it to increase air flow. The ony downside to these small rigs is theyre almost all hot boxes, this shortens life and hampers performance - I think a little modding for increased air intake could easily lower temps some.

@dawid you never posted what paste you used either thinner pastes like kryonaut often pump out in low mounting pressure things like laptops ect. ICD or gelid gc extreme would be good pastes for this scenario. Also you should undervolt and adjust the power limits. Water-cooling would be pointless as your not thermal throttling your power limit throttling. Throttle stop using a -.125 mv undervolt and raising long power limit to 65w or 70w would more than likely net you 3.8-4.1 ghz all core permanent boost.

Maybe glueing taller feet and drilling some holes over the fans may help with the noise and the temps

yep, id like to see some ultra janke-mount overkill cooler with "proper flatness" going on. Id assume the to much thermal paste has something to do with slightly less then desired results. Id go as far as to see if the dies are even the same height off the board.

I am on a laptop with the same CPU, and it runs just as hot. It actually thermal throttles because ASUS has no idea about what vents are for. These systems would be perfect for an office, cash register, or any other medium duty usage. The only downside is that PCs are kind of expensive from China, although it seems like you bought from one of the more expensive vendors unless that is due to the shortage. I have seen systems like this run in the $500-600 range which I think is acceptable.

Guess what: many home computers of the past (i.e., 1970' - 1980's) also had external power supply units! Only the IBM PC's (which, at the time, were encountered mostly in offices) had the internal PSU's that we know and love today. Laptop computers also have external PSU's, by the way, when they're plugged into a socket, rather than subsisting on their batteries.

  • @LazyBunnyKiera

Their heatsink is probably pretty uneven so it's not mating very well. Using some thin copper shims MIGHT help since you can't really lap their heatsink.

Maybe we can 3d print the lower part of the chassis and create a makeshift mount (also makeshift connector) for one 140mm PWM fan.
that should help with the airflow problem.

RGB increases frame timings by 15%, yes. Carbon Fiber reduces input lag by 20%. You know, that time between when you click your mouse and your character on screen fires a shot. -20%. Generally, you need your input lag no higher than 35ms; Thus the carbon fiber.
