@@celsofidalgo874 You can't go wrong with a Donna Burke song. I had actually forgotten she sang for Turn A Gundam, but man this is perfect. I am generally a poor sucker for almost any version of Moon. In other words, Moon, Moon 2, Moon Concert Version with Origa, Moon live version performed by Gabriela - er - Yoko kanno, Tsuki no Mayu, and She's So High.
Listening to This Must Be The Place by Talking Heads gives me the same 'grandma's house in rural america' vibe that I also get from Fleetwood Mac and the Turn A Gundam OST, so I had a good reason to include it and the song fit in well with the timing of my voice over. Knowing that it resonated with you is like the icing on the cake, so thank you.
i enjoy gundam turn A series and the best for me..n i going rewatch gundam turn A for 2020 and RIP Syd Mead the man who design the ms pass away on December 30, 2019
Loran is like the Anti-Mikazuki Augus (though I don't think they exist in the same Universe, but point still remains). Idealist and Optimist. He wants everyone to live and cherishes life. Mikazuki's life turned him indifferent to life, to the point of just shrugging off putting bullets in people like it is just another task to be done for the day. I rate both of the Gundam series very high on the list for the story, and recommend both because they are like polar opposites but still very much the same in many ways.
Thanks for mentioning Syd. I just finished reading a book on his art but it doesn't mention Turn A Gundam. It does mention Yamato 2520 though. It's good to know he worked on this one too.
I think with Turn A we see a world that's beyond our own. As even though it looks like a 1920's earth people are more equal than ever. As in episode 1 Luran was hired as a driver due to his mechanical skill( he's more tan then black as he does live at a place with less UV shielding than earth). And we see men and women join militia groups to defend their home. But everything else is gold of what you said.
Exactly. Other than the fact we have the Moonrace and Earthrace looking at each other enviously, one being envious of having the Earth itself to live on, the other being envious of their advanced tech, the people otherwise were just living life without a care for things like gender or skin color. It was normal and not a big deal to be a chauffeur or a baker. And, well, given the seemingly simpler lifestyle and the fact he went from living in an artificial city to being surrounded by nature, it is no wonder Loran got excited as he did in the early episodes, yelling to the Moon at how wonderful living on Earth is.
I still have yet to finish the show, but it's easily my favorite in it's visuals. Turn A is best lead Gundam and I will fight anyone and everyone over this.
I think Loran is more of a really tan person or a native american than "black". Although I don't know the official setting so I might be wrong on that.
When you look at his actual concept design for the Turn A, it looks a lot more like one of the Moonrace's SUMO mecha - which, given they once attached the Turn A's cockpit to one for a while, hints they are to the Turn A what the GM was to the RX-78. I love those tiny hinted bits of detail.
As a massive Turn A fan, thank you for making this video. I get where you're coming from with the nudity stuff, but from all the Gundam I've seen(which is all of it) when Tomino in particular uses nudity it's usually more symbolic of purity and innocence. Doesn't make it less weird but it's nice to know it's not just nudity for nudity's sake. The whole black driver thing is still kind of problematic even if I personally see it more as Loran getting promoted because he's skilled with machines like they say in the show but I feel like they could've given him a job like helping out Miashie's dad as a mechanic if that would've helped the plot.
I actually really loved Turn A, I start Gundam not so long ago (thx quarantine lol) because a friend harass me with it since years, I started with The origins and the originals trilogy and I quiet like the show...then I start Zeta....and I really pass a bad time, I liked almost no characters and I was afraid than all the Gundam series was like that...Then I take a show in random, It was Turn A...I absolutely love it, the diverse characters, the ost, even if the story have flaws it didn't piss me off like in Zeta. This show make me love Gundam, and is definitely in my fav show of all time (also I like the channel so +1 ;p )
The tracklist was so goood Didn't know Turn A had this vibe, love the mix between Little House on the Prairie and scifi tech. The design of the Gundam kinda has what you'd expect to see on a 60s scifi novel cover, it feels very American, I really dig it. I've just finished Unicorn, I'll check this out next, thanks !
I gave Turn A a shot and honestly, it just wasn't for me. It wasn't bad, but the slow pacing was almost painfully tedious and the pay off at the end was not worth it. Honestly I just found myself being really bored with Turn-A. Frankly the best things about Turn-A for me were Harry Ord and the song "Moon's Cocoon". Personally I wasn't a fan of the mechs, though I suppose the Sumo is alright. Again, I don't think Turn A is a bad series, I just don't think I'm the sort of mecha/gundam fan this show was made to appeal to.
Darlan Dos Santos Oliveira Junior If you liked the show, then more power to you. But I got to the halfway mark of the series and was like “Okay why am I still watching this?”. I did finish the series out of obligation, but Gym and the Turn X were not worth the wait. Pity since I adore Gym’s voice actor 😓 Honestly the only things I genuinely liked with Turn A were Harry Ord’s character, and that one song that played when Loran was digging in the mountains “Moon’s Cocoon”. And I suppose the Sumo is an alright design out of the bunch we got that weren’t just renamed UC units.
Interesting, because I never get bored with Turn A and I watch the whole series every few years. Maybe people want more actions? Maybe more sci-fi? Maybe age matters, because as I get older, the show gets even better. But still, it's nice to hear that you watched the entire series even if it was out of obligation. I feel that the show is being respected and I respect your opinion.
Maotaro N I wouldn’t say it’s a matter of the age of the series, I grew up watching older anime like Ronin Warriors and OG Thundercats. But I would probably say it’s the lack of anything significant happening. Like I can certainly appreciate that both sides were trying to keep the conflict between them from escalating. But I honestly didn’t really care about what was going on. Like in the 8th MS team, I cared about the characters themselves and what was happening in the plot, I was invested. Personally I really couldn’t get invested in what was happening or the on screen characters. Loran isn’t a terrible lead but I feel he’s far too naive and innocent, also I swear I kept expecting him to get on his knees and kiss Diana’s royal feet when they were together. Speaking of Diana, I just really didn’t care for her or the other blond that looked exactly like her (for some reason). Honestly I kept losing track of which blond was which Harry Ord was the only character I honestly liked cuz he was reasonable and a pretty cool guy. Honestly it was refreshing to have a char clone who wasn’t a total asshole. But really the biggest issues for me boil down to the slow pacing and the lack of a really good central antagonist. I mean Gym exists, but he did very little and showed up far too late to matter if you ask me. Really he seemed more interested in fondling that katana he kept carrying around. And finally, as I stated in an earlier comment, I really did not care for the mech designs we got here. Same with the music, one good song isn’t enough to save it for me. I don’t know, maybe I have specific tastes, but this just really wasn’t the sort of show for me personally.
Honestly, your response is more than reasonable considering how different Turn A Gundam is even to this day. And we had G Gundam before that. :P It is a slower paced series, and the mechs in general are either retooled and/or recycled from past Gundam series, especially Zeon, or just very...unique? I generally like the series, but I knew just by looking at the Turn A it self this was not a series for everyone. At least not for those who are mecha fans anyways. Heck, I initially avoided it till I listened to the soundtrack and learned how potentially OP the Turn A actually was. My response is different from yours' after watching it, but I do totally understand where you're coming from. Also, you got good taste in music for liking Tsuki no Mayu.
oh sh*t i think i hit 10k when i wasn't paying attention... but since my channel covers so many different topics and videos can get buried a little too easily on people's subscription feeds, I doubt most of my subscribers end up watching my videos as soon as they come out and I don't see it as that big of a celebration. At this point seeing an individual video get a lot of views honestly means more to me than getting a lot of subscribers who may or may not actually watch what I post, but that's just how I feel.
I just finished watching it. My opinion is odd when it comes to Gundam. I think Turn A is better than Wing but not as good as Seed/Seed Destiny, 00, Orphan, Zeta, Victory or Unicorn and Thunderbolt. I don’t like any of the Gunpla series. It’s hard for me to get into them knowing there just plastic models in an arena or cyberspace. Although they have some of the more imaginative Gundam where some border on super robot stuff.
I'm very picky over Gundam. I'm more likely to not watch a gundam series lol. I do HIGHLY enjoy Wing, MS Team and Iron Blooded Orphans. I saw a slick animation slip from Turn A and it caught my attention. I like attention to animation and that 90s grit/detail. I might give Turn A a go... I'm a sucker for 90s anime.
LOLOLOL.. Just saw this, I know I'm late to the party. Dude.. It's an Anime guy with dark skin and white hair. And you have to bring "race" into it? This was done way pre-BLM and all that Jazz. Roran Sehaku is a MOON race boy in an era (ostensibly) when we've left race baiting behind. Why can't we acheive that here and now? Turn A Gundam is quite possibly my favorite of all Anime simply because it focuses on content of character and completely ignores RACE.. moon or otherwise.
Wait wait wait. How can Turn A take place after every gundam series? Is it a breath of the wild thing where all roads lead to it? Or are they all the same time line and if so, fucking how?
you can see it as multiverse converging into one, super natural has always been connected in every major gundam series, every series starts at the same timelime in every parallel universe all of them will meet the same end point which is turn A or the correct century. It was not fully explained they just somehow woke up into the point where all gundam universe are already one
it's a good series IF you can get through the insufferable people especially people on earth. and a constant presence of the most annoying character in Gundam franchise, Sochie. dear god.
Came to say this. He’s a darker skinned person but kinda like Ged in Earthsea, he’s not “black.” I also don’t think it’s necessarily racially insensitive to show him being perfectly content with his job of transporting white people around, he just seems to generally be a congenial person who wants to help out. Also crossdressing does not equate to “dressing in drag.” Drag is specifically about performance and breaking of social gender norms. Loran is crossdressing to pass as a woman and hide his identity, kinda like Cloud did in FF7
someone told me this show is bad, but as a religious and a pacifist person, I think I'll enjoy this show, I hate war, but I love peace, the old fashioned life and scifi, and I really like that loran tries his best not to kill his enemies, I'll be checking this out
Turn A, being the most powerful gundam of all, is used as everyday labor machine. That's what makes the show unique and charming. The quote Loran shouted out when he nuked the meteorite, "If you have been made by men, then be used to protect men!" is literally this whole show in a nutshell. Sure, turn a gundam is still a mecha anime, and if you want conflicts, that's fine. But there are reasons for considering turn a an anime masterpiece, and I do hope you understand.
@@공대갈-i4j I respect people who like it, but I refuse to call it a masterpiece. While in a war situation: the pilot prefers to hang clothes or move animals, half plot occurs for the convenience that Diana and the other are exactly the same, the final villains Gym and Agrippa are extremely one-dimensional, the main romances poorly developed, the dumb and meaningless ending, etc.
@@pieroae2599 I don't agree with you at all. First of all they are not in a real war situation at first, if anything it's more like a cold war situation where the leadership from both sides wanted to re-open the negotiation table (with a small skirmish happening hear and there due to insubordination from both sides.) So of course, people who aren't really part of the millitary like Loran will be acting on his own accord. Secondly, of course anything in the plot will occurs for the sake of moving plot along snd for the convenience of the characters (which is happen all the time in this kind of medium,) the things that make a different is how better they are at hiding it and how good they are at woven those excuse into the narrative, and I think Turn A did it pretty well. Thirdly, the final villians of the show is not even Agrippa or Gym, while both of them are an obstacle that embodies an antagonist thematical meaning in the second half. At the grand scope of things, they are just a pawn. (Honestly, I think the main and final villian is Guin, and I think for the most part Turn A did him good enough.) Fourth, they are no "main romances" in this anime and I don't really know where did you even get this idea from, did you talking Loran and Sochie? Because if so, then you are very wrong considering that there is no romance between them (it's only a one sided love on Sochie part.) Lastly, how could that ending even be pointless when taking the whole narrative into account? If anything I would call it cathartic.
I wouldn't even say above average you could say if released 6-8 years earlier mobile suit still look simple and like cheap action figures unlike group honestly it felt either they tried to bring in females into their fandom or was some kind kinda beta vision of a fan services like they couldn't make up they're mind
4:11 racially insensitive my ass, this is supposed to be 1000 years in the future. Black people in this time have no history of oppression here and really don't think anyone here remembers ancient history. Hell 1000 years ago in our history the Romans ran the most extensive slave network in the world. White slaves from Britain (specially ones with blonde hair and blue eyes) were prized in Italy. This goes to show that no amount of forced diversity in a show is enough and racist left wing activists will always find something to complain about until they have complete control.
The scenes are actually all from the same cartoon, a very cool show called "Over the Garden Wall". It has a very nostalgic/creepy atmosphere, some fun songs and one of the main characters is voiced by Elijah Wood. Hopefully this comment was somewhat helpful. :)
@@cassiebelmont993 That part is about evolution, which again, is a part of science. It began during a discussion being had at the time Gundam was being created, where several leading scientists were discussing the next stage of human evolution. Even today, there is still a lot of speculation as to what that means. Tomino's idea mimicks the concept of homo deus, which is a concept used by some scientists to elevate mankind into a higher state of being. Both in terms of processing ideas, but learning as well. Tomino actually explores that. At least to some degree. While that idea is not popular (just like in Gundam's theory of newtypes (watch Origins)), and hasn't been accepted by people as a whole (again, just like in Gundam), it still forms a part of the science that revolves Gundam. Both 0080 and 0083 expressed why non-newtypes were incapable of handling gundams effectively. While 0079 and Zeta Gundam (0087) explained in detail why a new mankind was needed to use the new machine. They were simply better able to handle it, while the others were not. The whole part about sensing and psychic powers are both a part of the homo deus theory. The thing that diverges between the real world idea and the newtype idea is that in Gundam, evolution comes naturally. While today, people are only interested in artificial evolution or forced evolution. The general idea is still same.
Why you should NOT watch this pile of crap: -Character all act like they have mental issues. -Characters are more often than not plain BAD. As in written by a 3 years old bad. And that is besides how they act. -Trough the whole series, you cannot shake the feeling that EVERYONE is wrong. Wonky. Civilians don't react normally to 30 meter tall robots trashing the city ( in a world where no one has EVER seen one). Military people charge giant metallic tanks monsters with jeeps, peashooter and bayonets. Everyone is a bit too stupid to be "human". It's like it's written by an alien. Good Gundam, HORRIBLE serie.
The thing with Tomino, he is great at worldbuilding and have plenty of creative ideas. But man, his plot's, dialogue and especially characters have always been his weakest forte.
@@matteste That is the rub. I can get someone excels in a field, in a manner where he really shines. However, it's no excuse to fail miserably in the others. The idea, the world-building of this serie, is GREAT. The execution is pitiful. It's like ordering a pizza, where the tomato is amazing and the rest is shit. LITERAL shit. End of the day, it's a dish you are better served throwing away.
@@maxlopolo2415 Indeed. To me, his works is less about which is the greatest and more along the lines of "which one is weighted down less by his problems". I mean, some things he have put out have all the elements present but are downright unwatchable like G-Reco for instance.
Sorry, I don't quite get what you guys are talking about. Can you guys provide an example or be more specific about this? I can't seem to recall which one are you talking about. For instance. "Character all act like they have mental issues." I can name quite a number of them that act according to their initial environment and setting (while also developed accordingly to their new environment,) and although I can see some of them that do act like they have a mental issues it's usually because they are indeed *have a mental issues* (or implied to have.) "Civilians don't react normally to 30 meter tall robots trashing the city" What do you mean exactly? When the moon race attack the city in episode 11 almost all of the civilians flee in terror. "Military people charge giant metallic tanks monsters with jeeps, peashooter and bayonets." That is only happen in the first few episodes, beyond that point the military make use of an old mobile suits and relies heavily on ambush and guerilla tactics and the instance of "charge giant metallic tanks monsters with jeeps, peashooter and bayonets" is never happen again.

oh sh*t i think i hit 10k when i wasn't paying attention... but since my channel covers so many different topics and videos can get buried a little too easily on people's subscription feeds, I doubt most of my subscribers end up watching my videos as soon as they come out and I don't see it as that big of a celebration.
At this point seeing an individual video get a lot of views honestly means more to me than getting a lot of subscribers who may or may not actually watch what I post, but that's just how I feel.
Talking heads 😳
I love Loran
I just finished watching it. My opinion is odd when it comes to Gundam.
I think Turn A is better than Wing but not as good as Seed/Seed Destiny, 00, Orphan, Zeta, Victory or Unicorn and Thunderbolt.
I don’t like any of the Gunpla series. It’s hard for me to get into them knowing there just plastic models in an arena or cyberspace. Although they have some of the more imaginative Gundam where some border on super robot stuff.
It felt like a sequel to Ideon
Is the background music of this video Gypsy by Fleetwood Mac instrumental version?
The two 'twins' are not sisters, it's never metioned. They just happen to look alike
Better question: How do you watch Turn A Gundam?
It honestly never occurred to me that Loran was black
I was confused when i saw the views on this video def deserves more views
What is the mobile suit (and anime) in 3:03?
Better question is where to watch
THE TURN A... IS REAL!
Reality for me and Mi6
Is Fleetwood mac in the background?
I warched 20 episodes and was into it...for some odd reason i didnt continue...
How do I watch this show?
Do not judge turn A mustache if your not a one piece fan
What Gundam is that at 3:05?
Hate to be that guy but...
they're not robots.
it's a good series IF you can get through the insufferable people especially people on earth. and a constant presence of the most annoying character in Gundam franchise, Sochie. dear god.
Uh....Loran isn't black. There are plenty of darker skinned ethnicities.
Thats not a black protagonist
He is
someone told me this show is bad, but as a religious and a pacifist person, I think I'll enjoy this show, I hate war, but I love peace, the old fashioned life and scifi, and I really like that loran tries his best not to kill his enemies, I'll be checking this out
Where can I find a way to watch the show?
You can find about 50 episodes here on TH-cam
Just finished…wtf is that ending?
The “said most” powerful gundam 🤷🏻♂️
But where can I watch it tho
It’s on youtube

Too many spoilers
It's relaxing, yes ..... but this is a war conflict anime,
not a slice of life. This is the main reason I don't like Turn A.
Since when gundam turn into slice of life
Turn A, being the most powerful gundam of all, is used as everyday labor machine.
(Honestly, I think the main and final villian is Guin, and I think for the most part Turn A did him good enough.)
Fourth, they are no "main romances" in this anime and I don't really know where did you even get this idea from, did you talking Loran and Sochie? Because if so, then you are very wrong considering that there is no romance between them (it's only a one sided love on Sochie part.)
Lastly, how could that ending even be pointless when taking the whole narrative into account? If anything I would call it cathartic.
gundam excellent, art above average, forced femboy weirdness... I guess you could call it a mixed bag of nuts.
Can someone please tell me the names of the cartoons shown in the sequences from 2:42 to 2:54?
The scenes are actually all from the same cartoon, a very cool show called "Over the Garden Wall". It has a very nostalgic/creepy atmosphere, some fun songs and one of the main characters is voiced by Elijah Wood. Hopefully this comment was somewhat helpful. :)
@@KaworuNagisa Thanks a lot!
My girlfriend likes Ghibli. Is this a good show to watch together? What if siblings or parents came in JUST as the on screen nudity happens?
2:03 Turn X is not a Gundam
Actually it is considered a gundam unit weirdly enough look at its wiki.
@@barrybend7189 it s not called a Gundam so it doesn't count
Turn A gundam barely had any action in it. Compared the other shows, it was fairly tame. Too tame 😒
yeah, that's why it's more atmospheric and relaxing
It's not really an action show.
@@SeekerLancer Man, it's a war conflict anime, it MUST have action, otherwise it would be just stupid.
@@pieroae2599 Wait, you do know that there are many ways to portray a war conflict right? (Action is just one of them.)
I hate to say it, but I will NEVER like to look of the Turn A Gundam. It's like the GINO of Gundams.
I'd watch it, if Loran Cehack didn't look so damn cringy as a guy who legit looks like a woman. I bet the story is good, but I have my limits.
It wasn't that great a Gundam series.
The protagonist looks like a girl. That's ok in other anime, but not Gundam.
Why should Gundam require a more gendered protagonist when you don't hold that standard to other anime series?
@@cassiebelmont993 Cause you can't take it seriously. Gundam wasn't about pretty faces, but about science. Move along, donkey.
It's safe to say Gundam has degrees of fantasy and science fiction due to the magic powers of Newtypes.
Take your homophobia and shove it.
Why you should NOT watch this pile of crap:
-Character all act like they have mental issues.
"Character all act like they have mental issues."
I can name quite a number of them that act according to their initial environment and setting (while also developed accordingly to their new environment,) and although I can see some of them that do act like they have a mental issues it's usually because they are indeed *have a mental issues* (or implied to have.)
"Civilians don't react normally to 30 meter tall robots trashing the city"
What do you mean exactly? When the moon race attack the city in episode 11 almost all of the civilians flee in terror.
"Military people charge giant metallic tanks monsters with jeeps, peashooter and bayonets."
That is only happen in the first few episodes, beyond that point the military make use of an old mobile suits and relies heavily on ambush and guerilla tactics and the instance of "charge giant metallic tanks monsters with jeeps, peashooter and bayonets" is never happen again.
@@kman2384 Turn A is kind of blatantly referencing War of the Worlds with the whole using Victorian era technology to fight mecha from space and I think it's great.
I get why some people might not enjoy Turn A, especially if they're looking for an action show, but that guy's criticisms are kind of rude.
