If that's the bridge, Mike, it must be an absolutely killer chorus!!!

Few days ago,I was stock somehow with my mix. I went straight to your channel to see if you recently make any mixing tutorial. A day after.. you drop this mixing tutorial.😅 As if I called to ask that you should make it.
Thank you so much.. am really improving since I have been watching your tutorial. You guy are doing amazing job.

I like the approach to build the mix around the vocal.. I have heard it before but it made more sense when you showed it... Another note.. I am huge fan of the arranger in Studio One and color code all the song parts...

I have learnt a lot from your channel i have no idea how to thank you. Your content is priceless. It made me understand Studio one. Presonous should hire you to be part of their team, you make the software easy to understand, without your channel and Andrew Barr's 'Producing in the Box' i would have given up ion studio one. I am subscribed to Sphere now studio one+ but i couldnt understand their lessons. Thank you so much. your channel is priceless.

I like it... Makes a LOT of sense... I frequently overdo a mix, with disappointing results... I like your protocols! Thank you for this video 🎉

Hi Mike, thanks for another useful video. I’m pleased to say that I approach my mixing in S1 with much the same method as you show here.
Where I differ is that I don’t fully colourise the console faders as I find it a distraction, just the colour block at the bottom of the fader is sufficient for me and then I can colour the group faders to match the track groups for easier and quicker visual identification (not using track icons).
I know you allude to VCA’s at the end of the video but I sub-group the group faders into 3 or 4 VCA faders i.e. drum & bass, vocals, other instruments etc to deal with the level build up without affecting the balance between the mix-groups and then send these VCA groups through a master VCA as an overall level control to the Main output (usually via a master sub-mix fader), might sound complex but I find it saves a lot of time not having to rebalance the group faders.
Keep the videos coming, I always learn something of value from them. 👍

Mike, this vid is extremely helpful getting a ground base to work from in the mixing process. I've been frustrated for years by my poor mixes and you have pinpointed several places where problems lie. I really appreciate your approach. Well done...

Hi Mike, and I hope you're well. This was a VERY helpful video. I can't thank you enough for this channel. A couple of bad habits this exposed to me, like my efforts to do a bunch of technical and housekeeping work you called setup and then 'crashing' straight into the mix session. So many good ideas in this video. Thank you

I use the Find Channel function to type the name of the channel i want to navigate to. Very handy tool that saves lots of left right hunting for a particular channel

Good video! I think your strategy of mixing things up to the lead vocal makes sense for this song. I've also heard the advice to set the drum and bass first and then mix up to those, but maybe that only makes sense for EDM type genres. Probably a good rule of thumb is, for your genre, what element is the focus of the listener's attention? Mix up to that element!

When I was lucky enough to tour Abbey Road, one of the producers said the same thing. he mixes the lead vocal 1st.

The way you have the tracks laid out is interesting. I've been using folders with the folders having the bus in them causing me to have to go back and forth a lot. I think your way makes more sense as a workflow. I'm going to continue with the folders for now, but have the buses separate. Great video.

Hi Mike, great tip about starting your static bus mix with lead vocals. I always started with drums, bass and guitars in that order but often ran out of headroom. I will try your approach for my next mix.

    Great Video Mike.
Very helpful your instruction. Ear fatigue is one of my problems along with using less than professional sounding libraries.
But I have to work with what I have.

I do almost the exact same thing, only difference is I use the input controls (I think that's what its called--it has volume and polarity switches)...it's easier for me since I noticed the faders are after plugins for me. Great video!

I like to have the recieve bus-color the same color as the tracks that sends.
Great to have you on S1 😊

Great video. I'm still getting my chops on mixing, so it is great to have a resource like Mike who understands the importance of also looking at mixing from 10,000 feet so when you hone in on the details the big picture is still there. Thanks!

Mike, thank you for another great and educational video. Your approach about building the mix around the vocal, was new for me and I will certainly try. In another subject, what kind of hardware mixer do you use? Looks impressive! Tks.
