- After watching several other Studio One TH-camrs, I noticed I am doing vocal comping quite differently! So I've come up with a hybrid workflow :)

Nice vocal you have
You are too kind :) Thanks for watching!
Wow. You have a very good, cool voice.
Hey. You've got a nice voice, man. Don't apologize for it!
BTW Mike, your are to humble. Your vocals sound awesome.
thanks, I have watched a few vids on vocal recording and takes in S1 and none of them mention the feature on the lower left hand
corner " record to takes " by pressing the cog wheel to the left of the tempo selector... this is a great feature in S1 that even the guys giving tutorials don't mention.... thanks.. ed
I feel that you really understand what a child wants to know next in the process
Brilliant again Mike, thank you. Very informative. You are a great teacher and one of the best (perhaps THE best) Studio One instructors on TH-cam. And you have a lovely voice as well mate :)
Mike, your youtube tutorials on studio one are the best by far. Everything so well explained. Just great. Thanks.
This was really helpful for something that I was in the middle of working on. Trying to get used to Studio One and your videos have been such a great reference for things like this. Really appreciate it!
Thanks Tom! Glad to hear that :)
Unlike the rest of your videos, this video in particular was very hard to follow and learn from. You kept jumping from one topic to another and coming back to the main topic. Also you left me confused between 3 different methods. You could introduce the best way at first and the alternatives to the socound and third, not the other way around. Anyway to show you my support for my fav TH-cam channel, I liked the video. 💖😍
It's always good for anyone to get constructive feedback, thank you.
LOVE YOUR STUFF
Thank you so much, Mike! Your videos are a great help! Cheers
Best tutorial i‘ve ever seen on this subject! Thanx a lot!
Very useful info, easy to listen to and delivered at a comfortable pace. Thanks Mike. :)
I often comp vocals but I learnt a lot of things on this video. Thank you for sharing this helpful tips !
I sure do appreciate you! You are knowledgeable, AND you communicate well. Thank you!
wow I love your voice
so good. thank you for this!
This was incredibly helpful, thank you!! 👍
Your style and information are awesome. I can’t wait to implement them. Thank you.
Thanks Mike!
Thanks mate, really appreciate your help and knowledge, thanks
sir you are awesome at explaing .....and thanks for 4k video everything is crystal clear
I also have ( my way) when it comes to LightRoom! So, i am attracted to your way in Studio One. It's all about production mind set, that makes sense!
You sing just fine. sounds great to me. Thanks for the info
Love you brother, also love your voice great job mang
I’m a studio one user find your videos very useful keep them coming mate well done 👍
Nice performance bro !!
Nice vocals
Thanks Mike. Making my way through your content, I like your style. You have a great knack for an unassuming presentation. I don't feel like you're leaving bits out because you think we should already know certain things. I like it simple, straight and inclusive. Kudos
Very Helpful! Thanks, so much!
I enjoy your take on Studio One best of all Teachers Mike you have such a great way of explainning.
Great Video/Great Voice as well 👌
Nice voice brother!
i like studio for its handy quickly tools with custom shortcuts. i started with cubase then moved to reaper for years and i though there was the only one daw which is flexible for anything, but I feel a little bit confused with the old school graphic that Reaper provided, so i tried to figure out something new, and then i just tried studio one4 haha... who know, i've been using it up till now 6.2 version. enjoy the software so much ❤🎉
You are the best Mike !!!
Thanks James :)
Always love your videos and "disclaimers" lol😄
Amazing content.. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great tutorial! Your singing voice is very nice and the way you pronounce "layer" and "mouse" is also very musical. ha. Cheers from Argentina.
A big like to your video. Such a wonderful way of Teaching. Love & Respect from India :)
I don’t use layers very often anymore, but I will revisit after watching this useful video. I recall a checkbox related to something like “layers follow edits” that caused me some misery. It determines whether an edit made to a clip that had been promoted onto the track also affects the layer from which it came. When enabled, a change made to the main track also edits the underlying layer. That may or may not be what the user wants. I generally prefer the feature to be disabled so that audio in my original layer isn’t affected by edits to the main track.
apologizes for vocals, proceeds to sing amazingly 😆
A Medusa shirt…interesting. Thanks for the tutorial.. Much appreciated.
dammmm you really did the sacrifice 😂
Mike, can you (like in Cakewalk since you teach both) move to the next selected clip with a keyboard shortcut so you don’t have to click on the next clip? That way you can “flow” from one clip to the next to hear how they transition into each other when auditioning. I like the way in Cakewalk I can use the arrow keys up and down to select the best take and then the right arrow to move to the next selection.
Great Video Mike - Did my 1st Comping last night on a verse of an old song I wrote years ago ..
When done comping the lead vocal - Would you ever consider copying the track and use the remaining unused phrase clips to create a your ' Double Track ' or your hard panned L / R track ??
Thanks for the great videos ..
Thanks, another great video - all of your videos are stellar!! Question: I like to use each previous take (assuming they are each getting better) as a guide. So I can hear the guide vocal in my left ear headphone and my voice in my right ear headphone. Is there a way to setup Studio one to allow me to do take after take but NOT muting the previous take?
Thanks really helpful and although I am Swedish I understand what you say and do 😂
What a great and uncomplicated way to explain it. But isn't it an issue, that every layer has different volumes? Will it be fixed by automation after bounced in one track?
Is there a sound on sound option in studio one?
Is it possible to comp while I'm still hearing the last take at the same time in my headphones?
Hey Mike, I don't have that little cog icon at the bottom. I am using S1Pro 3. Is there another way to configure takes on record?
Oh hey, I just found how to show record panel. Go to view, show record panel, click 'takes to layers". If anyone else has this version, that's how to do it.
When I try to follow you, my screen does not look the same. I am up to date. Have 5.5 version
Do you do remote lessons?
"I'm singing a song and tapping on the mic" has nothing on this video!
Sad but I prefer Mike's Vocal 🙂
did you learn this from Joe Gilder
Your sound needs mastering
Why did they make it so complicated? This is a deal breaker for me. Can't imagine tracking vocals or guitars and having to do something for every take. Cakewalk is so easy. Each take goes to a lane and then trim what you don't want to hear and you can blend with sound on sound. Gotta say presonus, this just does not seem efficient.
