My thoughts exactly.
The landing is an emergency to the ones being boarded.
It is either a cesstus assault ram or a boarding torpedo either way they are made for boarding by the astartes as their superhuman physiology allows them to survive huge g forces.
@@forickgrimaldus8301 kinda a mix of both? the Caestus has a forward multi-melta to punch through just about any bulkhead and the boarding torpedo is tubeular in shape with a forward drill that opens. though the Caestus can also double as a flying vessel while the torpedo just... fires in a straight angle and is used enmasse.

There not just doing him a favor. Everyone on that ship could be in danger if they didn't kill him. Best case scenario is you have a powered up Psyker possessed by a demon hellbent on killing everyone. Worse case scenario a demon uses the Psyker body to open a portal into the warp.
If anything the Astartes were a little slow shooting him, but I guess since he was an Inquisitor they wanted to make sure first.

Yep. In 40k, there are few factions that are well and truly good. Farsight Enclaves are the closest thing to "good guys" I can think of off the top of my head, and that's probably just because they're a criminally underused subfaction of the Tau race, and so we don't know a whole ton about them aside from their rejection of the main Tau faction's leadership caste and their brainwashing.

@@TheChillzoneX if you liked Blackadder, definitely check out the Ciaphas Cain novels/novellas :> If you want to read that is ^^ its 40k, following a normal human, who's a Commissar fighting with the men and women of the Imperial Guard(regular humans) - its fantastic, epic and action packed, actually funny at times(i guess its labeled as Dark Comedy) and a great alternative to the regular grimdark 40k litterature :-) Alot of people obviously still die. But Cain is an amazing character who is telling his account of his accomplishments, and how he became a hero of the imperium :-) they're most likely available as Omnibus'es(collections of the various published stories, usually a great price too considering the amount of stories in them - the first is called "Ciaphas Cain - Hero of the Imperium" by Sandy Mitchell :-) [edit/addition] They're also available as Audiobooks, a few of them anyway, on Audible if that's more your style :-)
@@kaedeyutani9197 I agree. The Caiaphas Cain stuff is excellent. It is a bit out of sync with the tone of other WH40k fiction, but that is arguably what makes it so fun. Mitchell is familiar enough with the lore of the universe as a whole such that he knows where he can play with it or make something tongue-in-cheek without taking the reader out of the 40k universe.
@@kaedeyutani9197 I'll second Ciaphas Cain, even if you haven't seen Blackadder. For additional context, it follows a Commissar (who are basically part political/morale officer and part executioner in the Imperial Guard, though Cain isn't fond of the latter role) through his memoirs of his career. He's regarded as a hero, but portrays himself as a dirty coward, and it's implied that the truth is somewhere in between. It's a *very* good dark comedy/action series.
I said the same thing in 1995 and I'm still in the hobby.

@@thomascardone4786 They offered to hire him but he turned them down. He makes enough money as-is and wants to retain full creative control over whatever he does IIRC (and I don't blame him).
Him being a single person with a vision is what made Astartes possible.

@@clock3001 nah, the T'au are by the book what Europeans did to Africa between the napoleonic war and WW1. Under the pretensce of bringing "enlightment" (the Greater Good) they enslave local population, replace their beliefs with T'au ones, enlist them as auxiliary troops and exploit the world's natural resources. And the worst part? both believed they were truly helping those they exploited.
While I tend to agree with the Salamander point, a huge step back we must take is: they are on our side... they literally burn everything else, just like necrons will kill everything non necron, aeldari will sacrifice anything non aeldari to save themselves etc. But the Salamanders do it to others to protect us, so they pass as "good guys"

I went complete dark when i first learn the existence of warhammer (40k) universe, no phone no social life or media. People thought i was working on a project but all i did was ordering books, codex studying and reading like a madman. It was most fascinating and fun thing i ever did. I lost myself in rich lore written years upon years and it took few months to satisfy my curiosity. Warhammer have a grimdark-high-gothic charm which i adore. Everyone is bad but also not so bad. Everyone is wrong but they're right. Love it. It's basically no snowflakes zone which our era suffers a lot in recent years.
Never really liked reaction videos. Until "Astartes". It's so funny to see people used to stuff like StarWars see get a glimpse at the GRIMDARKNESS of 40k. It usually blows their minds.... :-D

But honestly, most people who don´t know 40k and lose their sh!t over Astartes should realy watch it. Astartes is great in depicting the raw strenght and brutal efficiency of Space Marines, but DoH shows the realy grimdark site of 40k (or better 30k).

WH40k aint like a horror movie where they try to get the daemon out of the body. If theres even the tinest chance that a daemon has possessed a human, they are instantly purged and anyone they have been in contact with.
The man (an inquistor agent) was listening in on the conversation between the 2 balls (they had one captured the things glowing on it where melta charges to blow it up if it missbehaved) he heard the ball say to the other it needed to "take them" meaning the astartes, so he broke his psychic link to warn the other astartes, which is when u see the one guy run off. But in that moment where he wasnt focused fully on the orb, it managed to possess him. sadly he didnt manage to warn them in time
The dangerous part about it wasn't that he was possessed by a daemon. Cs the orbs don't seem to have a direct link with one of the Chaos gods. The dangerous part is that Inquisitor is a Psycher and a psycher that loses control over his power can have destructive consequences. It can go from giving people in few kilometres radius bursting headaches to completely mentally destroying people in a whole star system.

Those "bullets" being shot by the Astartes are essentially rapid-fire RPG's ( hence how 1 shell can make a regular human explode on contact ).
When that priest was possessed, they immediately eviscerated him, because a possessed individual can take several magazines of those explosive rounds to kill them. Once possessed in even the slightest, there's no recovery option, and the only prevailing thought of the priest wouldn't be "Save me" but more "The Emperor protects" as he's being blown away. His respite is his death, instead of becoming the abominable Xenos he was becoming in that moment.

If you want a lore vid that won't really tell you much in overall lore but highlights why the orks are so awesome you should watch his video on Tuska the Daemon Killa. Great little story about orks, make you laugh and maybe even feel sorry for a certain daemon prince.

@@pgabrieli To be super picky, that was a Caestus Assault Ram, a Marine-only vehicle, as opposed to the Boarding Torp, which is Imperial Navy issue
I love seeing people fall in love with the 40k universe, and Astartes has done a great job of bringing new people onboard!

My personal favorite lore channel is Oculus Imperia, he acts like an in universe scribe and tells stories with great atmosphere. Luetin is very good when it comes to explaining in universe lore and connecting dots.

I just love when people that never heard of Warhammer react to 40k related stuff. It's just so sweet and makes me smile like a fucking idiot when they see the over-the-top nature of 40k at it's finest.
Another thing you would absolutely love about 40k it's the parody series "If the Emperor had a text-to-speech device" that encompasses some parts of the lore in a kind of a nutshell.
Honestly the Warhammer Universe is really fascinating and it's VAST.

Try watching the "Helsreach" animated series by Richard Boylan here on TH-cam. The animation is quite different, but it's adapted from an audiobook so it has a great story and voice acting.

The orbs are theorized to be Yu'vath: xenos with great psychic ability that they use to control their subjects.
Their conversation that the Inquisition psyker listened in on:
Orb 1: ...no escape. I have failed, brother.
Orb 2: We have all failed. The Astartes deny our touch. You must return. Break your seal.
Orb 1: Impossible. We'll never survive.
Orb 2: You must! Take them!
Inquisition Psyker: *muffled* RECALL THEM IMMEDIATELY! (referring to the Astartes squad on the ship)
Actually, the conversation begin with 'Who is here'.
And it isn't 'Take Them', it is 'Take the Alpha'.
Taking from other videos, the conversation actually went like this :
Orb 1 (Captured): "Who is here?"
Orb 2 (Free): "I have failed brother" (Couldn't stop the Astartes)
Orb 1: we have all failed. (Was captured)
Orb 2: "The Astartes defy our touch."
Orb 1: "You must return. Break your seal"
Orb 2: "We will never survive"
Orb 1: "You must. Take the Alpha" (The psyker/Inquisitor)
I had heard of an interview done w the creator and he said everything in the vid was his own creation. The zenos sphere, and the astartes chapter. All keeping in line with established lore, but still his own.
The creator said they are Aliens, but they are an original creation for the series though they share some similarities with Canon species. The orbs are like vessels for travelling in the warp. The one Alien possesses the inquisitor, while the other tries to take the Astartes into the warp and escape. Unfortunately for it warp entities or Daemons immediately detect it and the Marines and feast on tasty Alien soul.
The Marines then get deposited on some planet either in the warp or somewhere else in the galaxy.
@@nutyyyy yep, him keeping with lore is probably why people thinking that the sphere is the yu'vath. Similarities n stuff. And I think his retrobuter chapter is supposed to a successor of imperial fist. (There is a company that 3d prints pauldrons for figures with the retrobuter chapter logo its awesome. Saw it on astartes channel) But I believe this all takes place about 500 yrs before current time in universe.

It all started with the Emperor, who has always been here on Terra, almost sure he is your Neighbour. Then he thought beeing in Disguise sucks. Outcome is more than 10.000 Years of War and it will never end. Maybe when everything is Dead, but we are not sure. There is no Peace amongst the Stars, but never ending War and the Laughter of the Dark Gods.
Honestly, if you want a good introduction to the lore of Warhammer 40k, I'd heartily recommend Bruva Alfabusa's "If the Emperor had a Text-to-Speech Device" because it's also hilarious.

I think it was Russianbadger who described the Astartes Bolter armaments best. “Imagine someone shooting rocket-propelled Red Bull can-sized slugs at you at the firing rate of a submachinegun.” THAT is what the Astartes were using against the human targets at the beginning. So yeah. Not much is gonna be left after an Astartes lands a hit on an ordinary human.

I am an old nerd, 41, started playing games at 12, so I have 28 years of gaming under my belt and I can't express how cool it is watching people being assimilated into the fold with such gleeful exuberance. From your future videos I've seen you have gotten in to 40k, which is awesome, also this is an old video so I doubt you'll see the comment anyways, so I really have no reason to fill you in on the 40k universe, but I have to say this. As a whiter than white Polish/Danish/Scottish white boy, it is so awesome seeing a black guy nerding out like this, because it is simply not really popularized now, and was unheard of back in the day.
The game store I live... I mean hung out in had white guys from 12 to 40 playing games there, we even got a High school girl soccer player infected (that was a proud day for us) but not a single black guy, in all the time I was there, literally years of hanging out, even walked through the door. It was not a "yay we are white, keep people out" thing, it was a "well, these are the only people that are willing to go full nerd and walk in to the store" situation. Seeing a black guy just geek out is awesome, I really wish it had been more acceptable back in the early 90s, I can't even begin to imagine how many more people I would have hung out with, beaten up on, helped provide feedback on games (we had game designers hanging out in our store also I think brick and mortar game stores would have a stonger customer base and thus be flourishing a bit more than they are now.

I've been doing a binge of peeps reacting to Astartes and I love that every single one of the ones who don't know 40k lore after the second vid are just like, "Now that's just not even fair!"

There is a youtube channel called Luetin09 that makes fantastic and immersive 40k lore videos. My absolute favourites are THE EMPEROR OF MAN [1] The Rise of Humanity, and THE EMPEROR OF MAN [2] Heresy & The Imperium. They are both 1,5h long videos so it's a 3h total session. If you have the time on a quiet Saturday afternoon and got nothing else to do, I highly recommend watching these two videos.

I would recommend the templin institute series on Warhammer 40,000 starting with the imperium of man, these are shorter more broard overview videos but they are probably the most entertaining. if you want more in depth longer videos then Lueton09 has the best 40k videos on the internet hands down.
Mr X seconded. Bricky is fun for a light comedic overview, but Templin, Luetin09 and Baldermort are the best lore guys out there for 40k imo

I’ve made quite a few people watch Astartes, from my wife who has no interest (but has to listen to me drone on about it for hours, poor thing) to friends who are sci-fi guys with no knowledge of 40k to CGI dudes and filmmakers. All of them are blown away by it. It does so many things so good everyone finds something to like in it. But once you know a bit more, it gets even better. Many poor souls were thrust in to the 40k universe by watching this 15 minute masterpiece. Welcome good sir. You can find reaction videos by people who are deep in to 40k lore, they are very interesting to watch showcasing all the tiny details in the video you miss the first time around.
